Khaitan Public School celebrated International

Yoga Day on 21st June, 2015 in the premises of

the school. Students from classes IX to XII partici-

pated with utmost fervour and enthusiasm. The students were informed about the importance

of Yoga, about its brief history and development,

the fundamentals of yoga, yogic practices for

health and wellness and the general guidelines for

Yoga practice. Students were also imparted

knowledge on the various asanas - Sadilaja, Cala-

na Kriyas, Tadasana, Vriksasana, Pada-Hastasana, Ardha Cakrasana, Trikoṇasana and

among the postures the Bhadrasana, Ardha

Usṭrasana, Śaśankasana, Vakrasana, Bhujan-

gasana, Śalabhasana, Makarasana, Nadiso-

dhana, Anuloma Viloma Praṇayama, Bhramari

Praṇayama and Dhyana in Śambhavi. The students were cognizant to the fact that, Yoga

is truly an invaluable gift of ancient Indian tradi-

tion. It embodies unity of mind and body, thought

and action; restraint and fulfilment; harmony be-

tween man and nature and a holistic approach to

health and well-being. Yoga is

not about exercise but to discov-

er the sense of oneness with our-

selves, the world and Nature. By

changing our lifestyle and creat-

ing consciousness, it can help us

to deal with climate change.

This is what International Yoga

Day justly advocates.

Movie Screening of ‘Rough Book’

The movie ‘Rough Book’ was screened

in the Khaitan School premises in collab-

oration with Mr. Aakash Chaudhry, Di-

rector of Aakash Educational Services.

The movie produced by them was truly a

delight to watch. Teachers of Khaitan and

facilitators from various schools attended

the screening of the movie. The visual

screening of the movie truly encapsulated

the adage that ‘education is not merely

learning and scoring of grades, but it is

more about application.’ The movie

has beautifully portrayed the mentor

mentee relationship; it definitely empha-

sises that the teacher is the guru who is

the true giver and learner. The movie was

appreciated by all. The Vice Chairman

Mr. Anirudh Khaitan lauded the ef-

forts of the Producer and the Education

Director Ms. Geeta Varshneya held an

interactive session with the audience and

encouraged them to share their views re-

garding the movie.

The Bond of Silence Horses and humans have an ancient relationship. Asian nomads probably domesticated

the first horses some 4,000 years ago, and the animals remained essential to many hu-

man societies until the advent of the engine. They are of various colours: white, buckskin, dark

bay, black, dapple grey and flaxen chestnut. In total,

there are 35 possible horse coat combinations. Worldwide, horses play a role within human cultures

and have done so for millennia. Horses are used for

leisure activities, sports and working purposes. There are certain jobs that horses do very well and no

technology has yet developed to fully replace them. Although machinery has replaced horses in many

parts of the world, an estimated 100 million horses

are still used for agriculture and transportation in less developed areas. Studies have in-

dicated that horses perform a number of cognitive tasks on a daily basis, meeting mental

challenges that include food procurement and identification of individuals within a so-

cial system. They also have good spatial discrimination abilities. Unlike humans, horses do not sleep in a solid, unbroken period of time, but take many

short periods of rest. Horses spend four to fifteen hours a day in standing rest and from

a few minutes to several hours lying down. Total sleep time in a 24-hour period may

range from several minutes to a couple of hours, mostly in short intervals of about 15

minutes each. The average sleep time of a domestic horse is said to be 2.9 hours per

day. Since nature has provided us with such a majestic animal, we need to take full responsi-

bility to look up to them . By : Rupal Handoo (XI B)

The Right Heir

A mighty king ruled the kingdom of Roshanpur

and wanted his people to be happy. He was wor-

ried because he did not have an heir to be his suc-

cessor. In order to find an able and honest person

to rule Roshanpur after him, he disguised himself

as a beggar. He reached a nearby market and acci-

dentally fell into a roadside pit. Soon, a group of

traders crossed the place but refused to help him. A

battalion of soldiers passed by and remarked, “It is

not befitting for us to rescue an insignificant person like you. We do greater

deeds and protect the borders of the kingdom. ” Two farmers came down the

road, they looked at him in disgust and said, “We do not want to waste our time

with you. You better try hard and come out of the pit.” A group of shoppers

dressed in their beautiful attire came by and heard the helpless king’s cry. One

of them said, “Helping an old beggar will only dirty our hands and lovely

clothes. Forget it!” The king had almost given up his hope and realized people

had no kindness left in their hearts. Soon a thirteen year old boy came by. He

was shocked to see an old beggar struggling in the pit. He said, “Do not worry, I

will run and come back with a rope. I will take you out of the pit.” The boy had

a cheerful face and bright eyes. He brought a rope lowered it into the pit. The

other end was held tightly he asked passers-by to help him. As soon as the king

rescued the boy gave him some water to drink. The king discovered that the boy

was an orphan who slept under a peepal tree and worked in a small shop to earn

a living. Finally, the king had found his heir. He took him along to the palace

and soon coronated him as the prince in a glittering ceremony.

The Mystery of the Burnt Cottage

(-Enid Blyton) ‘The Mystery of the Burnt Cottage’ is the fir st book of

the Mystery series by Enid Blyton. The novel centers on

the mystery of who could have set fire to Mr. Hick’s cot-

tage. The five children Larry, Daisy Daykin, Pip, Bets Hil-

ton and newcomer Frederick Algernon Trotteville, meet

at the scene of the fire and end up solving the mystery to-

gether. Their suspects include an old tramp, a dismissed servant, a

hostile colleague, and the cook. They find certain clues:

Broken-down nettles in a ditch, a footprint in a grassy

field, jet planes. The children realized that as Mr. Hick claims to have been in the London train when the

cottage was burnt, but by his own report he saw the planes which flew over the village at

the same time, he is contradicting himself. Fatty finds out that the cottage and the burnt

papers Mr. Hick describes as 'most important' were insured. The children deduce that Mr.

Hick burnt his own cottage for the insurance money. The book also introduces Inspector

Jenks, who turns out to help the children and becomes a good friend of theirs. After solv-

ing the case they called themselves the five Find – Outers.

Parents expectation vs

Child’s Career ChoiCe “Our kid is very intelligent I want him to be a doctor/scientist….but sure-

ly you never would have said that he can become a musician or an Art-

ist” (It’s his choice).

The day we become parents, we start thinking about our child’s future,

about the school he will get admission, which stream he/she will opt after

Class X and what profession she/he will choose for a

living. We believe that every child is born with differ-

ent talent, different interest, different aspirations, differ-

ent ideologies; then why we decide or impose our

choices on them. Think??

Many parents want their children to pursue a career

which they were unable to do. How right is that? Tell

your children to pursue a career they are good at. Be a

coach and a mentor in your child’s life. The ultimate aim of parenting is

to see your child excelling in the profession that interests him.

Think alike, choose alike. Let’s align our thought pattern with our chil-

dren and try to bridge this generation gap. The children just expect un-

conditional support and faith of you in them throughout their lives.

Former President A.P.J.Abdul Kalam was truly the people’s President. He was

one who was connected to social media before it came into vogue. He opened the

doors of Rashtrapthi Bhavan to a million children and launched his own vision of

what India should become in 2020. The five years he spent in the Rashtrapati

Bhavan transformed not only the presidency, but the man himself. He opened the sprawling gates of the Bhavan like no other President before or after him. He wanted

children from all over the country to visit the 340 room house and the fabled Mughal Garden. Whenever

he had time, he would surprise groups of children by walking to them from his office and talking with

them. He always believed that for great men, religion is a way of making friends, and small people make reli-

gion a fighting tool. He also advocated that don’t take rest after your first victory because if you fail in

the second, more lips are waiting to say that your first victory was just luck. He once remarked that,

‘Science is a beautiful gift to humanity, we should not distort it. Science does not discriminate between

multiple races.’ He also supported the fact that, if a country has to be a nation of beautiful minds and be

corruption free, then there are three societal members who can make the difference. They are the father,

mother and teacher. He believed that excellence is a continuous process and not an accident. Today my pen grieves for a man who is no more. He leaves behind a legacy to bow to, and

which will serve as a guiding light for us. By Shivani Shesh (HOD - English)
