JULY 2015 BUCKEYE BREEZE OH-IO SISTERS: WOW! What a week and a half I have had. Starting on June 12th, I have been in a complete daze. I really do not know where to start with all the Thank Yous. The Ohio State Auxiliary Sisters are the best in the land. They are all winners in my coach’s handbook. The 2015 Convention was a very stressful time for a lot of people, me included, but as always we all came through with flying colors. Harriett, you had a wonderful year and you did so many things that needed to be done. I applaud you and all the State Officers for your year. I hope I can make the State as proud of me; you are a fantastic person and I feel so blessed to know you. As I get prepared to start my year as State Madam President, please let me say I am here for the State Auxiliary Sisters. I want to thank my Installing Team, Escort Team, and all of you who worked so hard in the hospitality room. For some of you it was your first time at a Convention; hope you will come again. Thanks also to the Brothers and Sisters who wrote the skit and put it on; what can I say I love you all, Great Job! To my Mom, Carla Carter, and Dad, Jim Jakubowski, thank you for all you do for the Aerie, Auxiliary, and me. Of course, we have our own Grandmother and Grandfather we love so much. These two, Marian O'Brien and Charles (Chuck) Cunningham are the real teachers and we would do well to listen to their stories and advice. A big Thank You to all the Sisters who accepted Charities, I know you will do a wonderful job and we will have lots of fun making all the money. Our membership goal this year for the Auxiliary is 5208. I know the State of Ohio can get these rookies in and onto the playing field and we can make that team from up North envy us. I know Membership Chairman, Roxann McCain will be out there doing all she can to get you going. Since this is my first letter as President, I feel I am just rambling on, but in all seriousness, Thank You Ohio Auxiliary Football Team. We are # 1, and next year at this time we will be #1 again. TOGETHER WE CAN ACCOMPLISH ALL OUR GOALS AND PUT THOSE TOUCHDOWNS ON THE SCOREBOARD. Until next month God Bless and I love you all. Dear Granddaughters: It is my honor to be called Grandma this year! Thank you, Gwen; a “title” given from the heart makes it all the sweeter! I wish everyone good health and happiness. Come visit me in Colorado. Love, Grandma, Marian O’Brien

What a wonderful convention we had. Thanks to all who attended and made it so special. Hope everyone enjoyed spending the holidays together throughout our reunion. A Big Thank You to the Brothers and Sisters who helped in the party room. I'm still in shock the amount of charity money raised this year; so proud that the Eagles made the single largest donation to my charity, Camp Quality, that they have ever received. To Patricia Rawlins, thank you for a beautiful banquet and entertainment of the story teller. Between Debbie Sharp, Aggie, and my Convention chairmen, Stacey and Norina, we had one smooth running Convention. Thank you girls! There are just too many Sisters to thank; all of your hard work all year made it a year I will never forget. Gwen, I wish you an unforgettable year and the best of luck as we cheer on our football team this year. Always remember WE ARE FAMILY.

First Lady, Harriet

What a great time at State Convention! Congratulations to Harriet Luke for an absolutely wonderful and successful year. I want to take this opportunity to thank the Past Presidents for having faith in me, to retain me as a State Officer for another year; what an honor and privilege it is. I also want to send out a special THANK YOU to all you Sisters of Grove City, Central Zone and all the Sisters of Ohio for your letters of support or for just giving encouragement. It’s because of all of you that I have received this great honor. I promise to always do my best to represent you well. Congratulations to you, Madam President, Gwen. I wish you the best and may you have a fun and successful year.

Sincerely and Fraternally yours, Leisa Oiler, State Treasurer

FROM ONE ASSISTANT COACH

What a great "Family Reunion" Madam President, Harriet, had at State Convention this year. We enjoyed time with "family members" we may only see once a year. It is always such a delight to be with our Past State Presidents and Grand Representatives for their wisdom, support and inspiration. I know we will have a great year under Gwen and Jim's leadership. I'm so honored to be going in with Randy Wenger as 1st State Vice President. Fraternally, Sue Vandenbroek

Those of you who were at State Convention know that Barb Condo, Founder of One Way Farm, fell the morning she was to make her presentation to us and receive her check. She was taken by squad to the hospital. GOOD NEWS!! Barb was released from the hospital is home. They found she did not have a stroke, but had a severe urinary tract infection and her Dilantin level was low. She is home resting, however, she is still weak. I am sure cards from all her Eagle Sisters would help brighten her day! Cards can be sent to Barb, c/o One Way Farm, 6131 River Road, Fairfield, OH 45014.

TODAY

Outside my window, a new day I see, And only I can determine

What kind of day it will be. It can be busy and sunny, laughing and gay

Or boring and cold, unhappy and grey, My own state of mind is the determining key,

For I am only the person I let myself be. I can be thoughtful and do all I can to help,

Or be selfish and think just of myself, I can enjoy what I do and make it seem fun,

Or gripe and complain and make it hard on someone. I can be patient with those who may not understand

Or belittle and hurt them as much as I can. But I have faith in myself,

And believe what I say And I personally intend to Make the best of each day.

ATTENTION ALL SISTERS!! IT’S TIME TO SUBMIT YOUR ALTA BROWNING SMITH AWARD NOMINATIONS!!

Did you know that Alta Browning Smith was the first appointed Jr. Past Grand Madam President of the Grand Auxiliary in fraternal year 1952-53; was instrumental in organizing the Grand Auxiliary; was one of the first Supervisors of the Grand Auxiliary; AND SHE WAS FROM OHIO??? She was our Ohio State Auxiliary President in 1950-51! This award is to recognize some of our local heroes!! The Alta Browning Smith Award is given to recognize a sister who is not necessarily a PMP, PSMP, etc., but someone who has been dedicated to our organization; one who has volunteered her time and talents, etc. In addition—outside activities count as well. For example, her work with local food banks, little league coach, active in church activities, local town council member, works local dances, or maybe active in Girl Scouts. In other words, someone who volunteers her time to help others. And don’t forget about family. Did/does she care for ailing parents, spouse, or significant other? Did/does she have children with special needs? Did/does she volunteer time at local hospitals, nursing homes, or Veteran’s facility? When preparing your nomination, you need to be specific and list all her efforts within the Eagles and in her community. In this submission, details count!! The nomination form is included in this issue of the Buckeye Breeze. All nominations must be received by State Secretary Debbie Sharp no later than October 24, 2015. Extensions cannot be granted as selection is made the weekend of our East Central Regional Conference (ECRC) November 6-7, 2015.
