E ngage Caterpillar Peoria Area Family-Focused Newsletter July 2014 • Issue 86 Near-perfect running weather helped energize 319 Caterpillar employees and 25,000 other participants at the JPMorgan Corporate Challenge in downtown Chicago. Employees from 21 facilities joined the Cat Crew for a 3.5-mile road race on May 22. The annual Chicago run/walk attracts teams from approximately 600 global companies. “Caterpillar was very well represented again this year,” said Amy Manwaring, Cat Crew event co-coordinator. “Our 319 participants made us the fifth largest team at the Chicago event. Thank you to the dedicated runners and walkers, our many volunteers and Corporate Wellness Services, who kept us healthy and hydrated.” Caterpillar has participated in the Chicago portion of the Corporate Challenge since 1985. The Cat Crew’s best male and female finishers for 2014 were Daniel Sotiroff (20:39) from Aurora and Kat Dudaryk (25:11) from LaGrange. “The Corporate Challenge is a great event for all fitness levels,” said Dudaryk, who also served as LaGrange site coordinator. “This year LaGrange brought 52 participants to the Cat Crew, and I’m hoping we can continue to grow in the future. Group activities like this are a great way to get people together and get motivated. It’s nice to have an event outside of work where we can all come together.” Labeled “the world’s most popular sporting event for the full-time business community,” the Corporate Challenge began 38 years ago in New York City. Today, the event spans seven countries and five continents, with more than 265,000 combined runners and walkers. Over 400 employees, retirees and guests enjoyed an evening of fun which included dinner, dessert, games and prizes in the banquet room. The 8th annual Grown-Up Gala was held at Five Points in Washington on Friday, April 25. Over 400 employees, retirees and guests enjoyed an evening of fun which included dinner, dessert, games and prizes in the banquet room.

Following dinner, attendees moved to the Caterpillar Performing Arts Center within the Five Points facility where they were entertained by Smokin’ The Ivories, a piano and vocal powerhouse. The show was highlighted by a tribute to the greatest piano entertainers of the 20th century.

The Registration Meeting for Caterpillar employees and retirees to register teams for recreational and coed-recreational volleyball will be held on Friday, July 11, beginning at 4:30 p.m. in the Administration Building’s conference room SL-D (Service Level – D Wing). Employees not badged for the Administration Building will need to check in at the Security Office on Washington Street.

Caterpillar employees, retirees, and their spouses are eligible to participate.

The team captain (or assigned representative) must attend the mandatory Registration Meeting to submit the team registration form and check or money order made payable to Caterpillar Inc. for $125. No cash please. Registration is by team —not individual players. Leagues begin in early

September. Team player names are not required for the meeting.Individual players who do not have a team organized may e-mail [email protected] with name and telephone number before July 7. Names will be given to captains at the meeting and individuals will be contacted by the captains if players are needed.

To create your own team, gather coworkers and send a Team Captain (or representative) to the Registration Meeting. League rules (including eligibility) can be found at https://socialactivities.cat.com under Athletic Leagues.

For reference, over the past few years, coed-rec has been played on Monday and Tuesday nights.

Have you ever thought about singing, dancing, acting or working behind the scenes of a major musical production? Caterpillar Employees Mixed Chorus invites you to a “Get Acquainted” meeting to find out how you can get involved in this year’s production of Shrek. This musical is based on the 2001 Dreamworks film Shrek and William Steig’s 1990 Book Shrek! This is a fun show with a BIG cast and BIG crew. Directing this year’s production will be Chip Johnson.Join the group at 6:30 p.m. on July 17 at the Fondulac District Library (400 Richland Street/East Peoria). Meet the directors and production staff for the 2014 show and find out how you can become a part of it. If being on stage is not quite your thing, there are many off stage opportunities: hairdressers, make-up artists, set builders, set designers, set movers, costumer makers, costumer helpers (costume changes during the show), kid wranglers, ushers, publicity assistance, props, cast party hosts, spot light operators, stage managers, light board operators, sound executioners, orchestra members, program editors, and probably many others.

Performance dates are October 9, 10, 11, and 12 in the Eastlight Theatre at East Peoria High School.Auditions for Shrek will be held on Saturday, August 9 (10 a.m. to 12 p.m. for children under 16 and 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. for adults 16+) and Sunday, August 10 (1 p.m. to 3 p.m. for adults 16+) at Oak Grove Church (3221 Springfield Road/ East Peoria). If required, call-backs will be on Sunday (3 p.m. to 5 p.m.).Auditions are open to all active, part-time, and retired employees, their spouses and dependents. If you would like to audition for the show, but are unable to attend one of the audition times, please call one of the phone numbers below to arrange a more convenient time. Targeted cast age is 10 and up. Children age 15 and under who participate in the show MUST have a parent or legal guardian present at all rehearsals.
