KINGSGATE DISPERSAL SALE RESULTS END OF AN ERA!!!
Over 40 years of Hereford breeding came to an end last Friday when the iconic Kingsgate Station
Hereford female herd went under the hammer. A high quality highly regarded herd and one of the largest Hereford herds in Northern NSW was witnessed by many as a large buying gallery was present. 42 registered buyers in total travelled from as far as Wandoan, Pittsworth, Goondi-windi in QLD to Mudgee & West Wyalong in southern NSW with the majority of the buying field coming from most parts of the Northern Tablelands and the North West Slopes and Plains.
The Kingsgate herd originated in 1973 by the MacLaughlin family and was taken over by the late Basil John Quilty in 1983. Over the past 30 years heavy culling and the introduction of leading genetics annually took place and this was evident as it was an outstanding line-up of sta-tion bred females. This quality along with decent falls of rain over the past few weeks exited buy-ers as they bid keenly to secure the highly regarded females.
6 days on the road enduring cold & very wet conditions along with many obstacles and dramas along the way was very worth wile as prices went above all expectations. The females hardiness was also prominent as they presented exceptionally well in light of what they had to endure in the lead up to the sale.
A total of 663 head were on offer comprising 540 joined females along with 123 unjoined heifers. The Hereford females were joined to Hereford bulls except for a select few to the charo-lais whilst the black baldy females were joined to the Angus Bulls and all due to commence on the 10
th of August.
The sale started with a bang, $1120 for the lead draft of 24 rising 3 year old heifers, this being the high price of the day and were secured by G & G Farming “Yaralta East” Gunnedah through Garven & Cousens. They went onto purchase 90 of the young 3 & 4 year old cows for an average of $1033. Kilbah P/Co Gunnedah purchased the 2008 drops to a top of $960 whilst also securing the 2 pens of joined females for an average of $798. Peter Swatridge “Brangus Park” Nevertire took home the complete draft of the rising 6 & 7 year olds, 71 in total to a top of $860 and average of $853. The first 2 pens of the 2005 drop mature age cows were purchased by the Hegarty family from Cassilis for $730. The remainder of the CFA cows 8 – 10 years were pur-chased by local graziers with a select few pens going to the processors. The draft of 60 Angus/Hereford x females (3 - 7 years) topped @ $840 and obtained a healthy average of $781. Com-pleting the sale was the draft of 123 NSM 2011 drop heifers. They met solid competition with many wanting to secure the last and no doubt the leading genetics of what 40 years of breeding provides. The lead pen weighing 372kg realised $610 purchased by local Ben Lomond graziers Yoolimba P/Co. Leppington Pastoral Company “Billabong” West Wyalong under the professional eye of Mike Wilson liked what they saw and purchased 91 of the unjoined heifers for an average of $510.
Overall an excellent result for both the vendors and the Hereford breed as a whole, prov-ing that there’s still great confidence not only within the Hereford breed but the industry in gen-eral. A big thankyou to all that helped along the way, they being our 2 sponsors Lotus Hereford Stud & Herefords Australia, along with our drovers, yard staff, buyers & underbidders.

One of the first Angus Bull Sales of a new selling season saw the Cox family’s 16th Annual Angus Performance
Registered sale of 67 bulls submitted to auction with a healthy $4,834.62 average and an excellent clearance of
65 sold at auction.
The Cox family were pleased with the excellent support for their 16th sale and delighted with the clearance. Dis-
mal conditions on sale day didn’t deter buyers significantly however the last two sale days have attracted much
needed rain. Cattle breeders were welcomed to the sale from as far afield as Bathurst, Walcha and Warialda
and a strong contingent of local buyers. Less than favourable cattle trading conditions and difficult seasonal
conditions did not deter astute Angus bull purchasers from bidding keenly for new replacement sires.
An exceptional catalogue of the Angus Breeds leading performance genetics, with no less than 40 Artificial In-
semination Bred sires catalogued kept 43 registered buyers active throughout.
21 AI sons of Temania Berkley averaged $5666 topping at $9250 to Mike & Lindsay Main “Roseneath” Fladbury
via Rangers Valley.
8 AI sons of Thomas Grade Up averaged $4437 topping at $7000 to Max & Michelle Johnston “Unala” Sandy
Flat.
5 sons of GAR Prediction averaged $4800, topping at $8000 selling to DG & MD Stonestreet “Mindaribba”New
Bridge via Bathurst. The top price bull at $11000 an impressive son of home grown sire AJC D138 a 1st of Au-
gust 2011 bull weighing 792kg at sale day, also sold to the Stonestreets who purchased three new sires. The
heaviest bull in the offering was an 864kg son of Temania Berkley sold to first time buyers John & Jillian Wood-
ward “Reemo” Warialda, who procured two bulls and were attracted to the sale by the presentation and excel-
lent performance figures.
Volume buyers were local Deepwater graziers Titibar Pastoral Company purchasing 8 bulls, AL Cunich & Co 5
bulls and Maiden Creek Partnership “Maiden Creek” Wollomombi all repeat buyers of Speriby North bulls.
The sale was conducted by RMA Colin Say & Co Pty Ltd Glen Innes with Craig Thomas auctioneering. The
bulls were broadcast via video to an audience of buyers in the comfort of a large selling marquee, which proved
to be an excellent decision given the inclement winter conditions.
