Hello everyone, middle of July and it is a hot one. If you are riding your bike, be sure to keep hydrated. Take

plenty of water or Gatorade with you. I myself, prefer the Gatorade, for one, it has a taste and the other is for

the electrolytes.

Our Thursday night Dinner Rides have been fun and we have really enjoyed spending time with each other.

We have been making our way around West Tennessee, going to different counties and cities to eat at various

restaurants.

Everyone has been working hard, we have a Chapter fund raiser coming up on August 4th, grilling chickens

along with baked beans, coleslaw and a roll, giving away a shotgun, having a motorcycle awareness and mem-

bership drive tent set-up. Also, August 25th is our Fun Day and we have been working on this too. Presale

tickets for the Chicken Lunch/Dinner are on sale along with tickets for the shotgun, you can contact me if you

would like to get a ticket for either at 731-676-9917.

Our August 4th meeting will be at Bob’s House of Honda, since we will be there all day (hope it is not HOT),

but if any Chapters happen to come for the meeting, we can have it inside where it is cool. Also we can have it a little earlier, around 3:00pm so, that way you will not be late getting back home. So come and spend some

time with us, check out Bob’s Honda, there might be something in the store you can’t live without.

Don’t forget the Tenn/AL Hamburger Run in Trenton Ga. on the 28th of July, I am planning on making this if all goes well. I’m excited about the District Picnic at Gladeville Community Center in Mt. Juliet TN. on Sept.

29th. Chapter N is working on a TRC class for Oct 13th here in Jackson, TN., more information about that

will be posted later.

There is a lot more things going on, Rallies, Education classes, Chapter meeting, Chasing of the Wood, Fun

Days etc. Go to District Website and click on Event Schedule to see what is coming up. We

also try to keep everything posted on our website at GWRRA-tn-n.org.

So, until I see you again,

And when the pot of greens went around the ta-

Hey everybody, hope this finds you doing well. Debbie, Nolan and I are doing good. I hate that I missed the last

meeting, but my brother came down and spent a few days with me. Some of you met him at the dinner ride at

Selmer. He said he had a good time, but could not believe that Reginald would not give up his cornbread. I

have been riding every day to work and back, man, the heat is something. Guess everyone is getting ready for

our cook out at Bob’s Honda. Should be a good experience for us all.

I have been on the internet and found some things that caught my attention. Here are some of them.

Tennessee: riders can proceed through a red light with caution if after waiting an appropriate time, their

bike's weight doesn't trigger a light change.

Rider education is very important for our safety. Turn your riding passion into a learning experience for all the

members at the gatherings. Contact Tony if you are interested in becoming our new Chapter Educator.

The following article was taken from http://www.geico.com/information/safety/motorcycle/riding-tips/ it is a

good reminder for us all.

Always wear a helmet with a face shield or protective eyewear — Wearing a helmet is the best way to protect

against severe head injuries. A motorcycle rider not wearing a helmet is five times more likely to sustain a critical

head injury.

Wear appropriate gear — Make sure to wear protective gear and clothing that will minimize the amount of inju-

ries in case of an accident or a skid. Wearing leather clothing, boots with nonskid soles, and gloves can protect

your body from severe injuries. Consider attaching reflective tape to your clothing to make it easier for other driv-

ers to see you.

Follow traffic rules — Obey the speed limit; the faster you go the longer it will take you to stop. Be aware of lo-

cal traffic laws and rules of the road.

Ride defensively — Don't assume that a driver can see you, as nearly two-thirds of all motorcycle accidents are

caused by a driver violating a rider's right of way. You should always ride with your headlights on; stay out of a

driver's blind spot; signal well in advance of any change in direction; and watch for turning vehicles.

Keep your riding skills honed through education — Complete a formal riding education program, get licensed

and take riding courses from time to time to develop riding techniques and to sharpen your street-riding strate-

gies.

Be awake and ride sober — Don't drink and ride, you could cause harm to yourself and others. Additionally,

fatigue and drowsiness can impair your ability to react, so make sure that you are well rested when you hit the

road.

We want YOU!

On May 8, 2012 the motorcycle accident death count was 38 and up

31 percent over 2011. A recent trip to Nashville revealed the count

was now 72. Now is a good time to make that commitment to

safe riding.

Since we have taken on the role as TN District Membership Enhancement Coordinators, we have not had an op-

portunity to visit other chapters in a COY capacity. As a matter of fact, this year due to our vacation schedule, we

have not had a chance to visit at lot of chapters; the visits are coming. However, whether in our district role or

COY role, the responsibilities and honor are very similar.

In the role of the COY, the couple takes on additional tasks in the chapter such as being involved as chapter am-

bassadors and spokespersons. As suggested in the Couple of the year manual, some suggestions for involvement

in these areas are:

Assist Chapter Membership Enhancement or Public Relations Coordinator with contacting media,

community leaders, Honda dealers, etc., and speaking at non-GWRRA events/clubs about GWRRA.*

Serve as greeters.

Sit with and introduce first-time guests.

Serve as membership coordinators contacting inactive or expired GWRRA members to renew interest

in GWRRA.

Conduct 50/50 sales.

Assist at registration desks or “goodie” tables at events.

Assist at Mall Shows

Do you see yourself in this role as an active couple in Chapter TN-N? We see you!

We have had some great Thursday night dinner rides. Enjoy:

Upper left is Top of the River.

Upper right is Top of the River outside

visiting (where we have the most fun).

Left is outside at Crenshaw’s.

Right—CD Lori was able to join us.

Fun by all!

Article taken from District newsletter and courtesy of Reginald and Kim Seymour, District

Membership Enhancement Coordinators:

Happy July everyone! We pray that everyone had a great Fourth of July. After Kimberly

returned home from work and yes, she had to work on the holiday, we spent a quiet eve-

ning at home in front of the television. Kimberly was recalling to me how she spent her

pre-Fourth of July festivities with her family. They would start barbecuing at Granny's house around 10 pm, the

night of the 3rd and would go into the wee hours of the early morning of the 4th. They would then go home a

sleep for maybe an hour and then back to Granny's house for food and fun; which reminds her of our GoldWing

family (hint, hint). This was a family tradition until her granny passed away 12 years ago on the Fourth of July.

We are praying to start some new traditions for our family…other than watching television.

We hope you are getting in some riding time and we have had some pretty good riding weather; although, we

have hit some triple digit days. Just remember to keep hydrated. We are preparing for our annual two week vaca-

tion ride and have selected Seattle, WA as our ride destination. We will be joined by two other couples and one of

their sons’ who is a Harley rider; however he is starting to see the “GoldWing light”. There will be plenty to share in next month’s article about our trip. We have also been attending dinner rides with Chapter TN-N and have had

a great time and are still making our rounds to visit you at your chapter gathering, so keep an eye out for the

Blurple Haze.

We have enjoyed reading each chapter’s newsletter that you have forwarded to us through email. They are all

very unique and different; which brings us to the Quarterly Newsletter Contest. Every contest has guidelines and this one is no different. Guidelines for this contest were put in place to recognize the time, hard work, and infor-

mation that each Tennessee Chapter has put out to the Chapter participants. The newsletter documents the dif-

ferent events, activities, and fun. It is also an informative medium for participants.

We had three chapters that actually submitted to us by U.S. mail their newsletter; also part of the guidelines.

For a full description of the Quarterly Newsletter Contest Guidelines, please visit the MEP section of the District

website. So without further delay... the winner of the 2nd Quarterly Newsletter contest is Chapter TN-T; newslet-

ter editor Brain Richards. In accordance with the guidelines, the winner will be awarded at the District Picnic on

September 29th. We will also forward Chapter TN-T newsletter to Region N MEC to be entered into the Region N

Quarterly/Annual Newsletter contest.

Again, Congratulations to Chapter TN-T and thank you to the other two chapters that participated. We are chal-

lenging other chapters to participate and good luck next Quarter!

Members and guests of TN-N having more fun!

We had to miss the July gathering and it was like missing spending a holiday with your family. You sure get

close to your GoldWing Family (and a few Harleys-Jeff). Every year the week end after the 4th is Girls Weekend

at my sister’s in Atlanta. Cousins from all over meet and we scrapbook night and day for 4 days. Avery had to

stay home because it is a No husbands-No kids trip. Just scissors, glue and lots of pictures. On my way to At-

lanta I stopped at Camp Jordon. I checked out the host hotel. The entire building has just been renovated, so

don’t pay any attention to the reviews on line about the property. District has chosen a super place for the host

hotel.

While I was gone, Avery did get to go on the Thursday Night Dinner Ride. Chapter N ate at the” Top of the

River”, a new restaurant in this area that specializes in catfish. I hear that everyone was pleased with the food and the service. I sure hate that I missed it. Everyone shows up for catfish. Chapter N may have to change our mas-

cot from a Deer to a Catfish.

Chapter N will be selling smoked chicken dinners at Bob’s Honda on August 4th. We will also be drawing for a

shotgun. Come out and support Chapter N.

We missed you at Top of the River

but we saved a space for you so you

could know we thought about you.

Diane in spirit.

But that didn’t stop

Avery. He just kept

on riding. Right to

Top of the River.

Had fun didn’t we!

Then in Bolivar, we had exactly 2 seats left at our Thurs-

day night dinner ride. (Diane and Avery’s). With 20 pre-

sent we had a great time. And Diane, it was catfish!

Other fun:

We didn’t seem to know who

had the winning ticket.

Let’s talk about Spring Fling in East Ridge next year. There are a lot of people working real

hard to make this one of the best Spring Fling’s yet. Ron has asked all the chapters for

their input as to what they would like to see or do. Please get this information to him as

soon as you can. He, as well as others are moving fast on what is going to be happening

and you all can help if you would go ahead and make your reservations at the host hotels. This will help us get

Words of Wisdom from Kentucky District: Folks, you are part of something very special. If you have not experi-

enced any of the friendship building, then I would encourage you to get out and get involved in your local chapter.

Get involved in the chapter visitation program. Visit district events at home and other districts. Stick your hand

out and introduce yourself when you’re out visiting a chapter or a convention and you don’t know the member you

are talking to. That person might just be your next LIFE LONG friend and be willing to travel ten hours to be by

your bedside in the hospital. Be safe and see you on the roads.

VELVEETA CHEESE DIP

1 lb Velveeta cheese

1 Tbsp cumin powder

1 tsp chili powder

4 oz tomato juice

4 oz water

1 Tbsp mayonnaise

½ tsp black pepper

1 Tbsp garlic powder

1 tsp Louisiana hot sauce

1 jalapeno pepper

Melt the cheese in a double boiler or on MEDIUM setting in microwave. While cheese is melting, combine the re-

maining dry ingredients with the mayonnaise in a separate mixing bowl. Combine hot sauce with the tomato

juice, stirring well to blend the flavors. Add water, tomato juice, and the dry ingredients mixture together and mix

well. Pour everything into a blender: add the jalapeno pepper, and blend well.

This recipe will quickly take the place of the standard cheese dip.
