Loch Run Sunday 12th June 2011
You could not get a better day for vintage motoring, sunny and warm when 30 plus enthusiastic people started out from Baxter. We picked up a few more at Tooradin and pro-ceeded at leisurely speed down the highway to Lock to our morning T+P stop. It was reminiscent of the good old days of our club. Good fellowship, a variety of old and not so old cars and members. Ben certainly got the right day for our visit. It was a wine festival combined with the local market. Our cars were parked in the main street and certainly created a lot of inter-est. Len said he had an offer of $50 for the Vanguard but decided against it for now.
The ladies seemed to disappear into the antique shops and then men to the food stalls. The Wonthaggi bread etc. for sale were very tempting. I found it hard to accept the Yabbi pies that were available, a meat pie with a whole yabbi stick-ing out of the crust...yuk! At 11:30am we left for our cross country run to the seaside town of Grantville. What a picturesque run through undulat-ing green hills in this area. It was a lovely sight to see these old cars in their proper place on secondary roads. Leading the group was lead foot Lorraine driving ‗Miss Daisy‘.
We had lunch on the foreshore, some members sam-pled the local fish and chips, followed by desert for everyone, a birthday cake for Len. Many lies were told at this time regarding the performance of our cars then we took off for a visit to a display of African Vio-lets, much appreciated by the ladies. Good one Ben.
Thank your mother for the rabbits. Spency.

Sun 17th Calder Muster & All Makes Swap Meet
Sun 17th
Our Swap Meet has been and gone and what a great success it was. The hard work by willing workers paid dividends and ensured sellers and buyers alike had an enjoyable day. The Club stand did very well and Eric sold well over one hundred Federation Raffle tickets! Well done to all con-cerned! The Presentation Luncheon, on the 24th July, is well advanced it its planning so make sure you do not miss out on a seat by notifying Len, or Ben, before the 15th July. Special meals are available on re-quest if you are vegetarian (or similar). Please come along and help to congratulate the recipients of the Annual Awards as well as enjoying good company and great refreshments. There will also be special door prizes and a ―surprise‖ competition, involving Club cars, which adds a little more to the event. Cr. Alistair Wardle spoke at our last meeting on the Aboriginal Gathering Place proposal. He stayed for supper and continued to answer questions for Mem-bers which I hope made the proposal much clearer for everyone.
Life in the not so slow lane... Our next meeting will be a Trivia Night organised by Lorna so bring along your ―thinking caps‖ and have some light hearted fun trying to work out the ques-tions and answers. Also don‘t forget our AGM will be held on the 11th August. Nomination forms were sent with the last issue of Sidelights but more are available if anyone is interested in nominating for a position on the Committee. Til next time, safe and happy Motoring

play at the Annual Dinner. (Agreed) Len mentioned the following points: He will speak to the Secretary about the workings of the Clubs Email address. He suggested that the Committee re-visit the Clubs ‗Convoy Driving‘ guidelines, due to the amount of other traffic that can be held up especially on single lane main roads. He will arrange for the engraving of the Club Award Tro-phies. He brought up the following points from the Wash-Up meeting of the Swap Sub-Committee: The Sub-Committee needs some guidance as to who should be exempted from the Swap Roster, and what can be done about rostered members who do not turn up for their shift? There is a need for the Club Committee to look at pur-chasing our own bollards and barriers. This will save money spent on hiring the equipment. (The Committee
To allow all members to be kept fully informed of developments planned by Council for the Club Rooms site, I took
some notes of Councillor Wardell’s comments, and answers to questions posed by members. I would stress it is not
word for word only a broad outline
General address:
The creation of Aboriginal Meeting places is part of the “Closing the gap” program, which is a result of the “Apology”
given by the Federal Government a few years ago.
Our site has been chosen as 45% of people expected to use it, live in the broad area, and it is considered safe, close to
amenities such as transport. Two buildings and an office will be placed in the area to the left of the Scout hall. One to be
an Arts co-op/workshop and the other a centre to be administered by the Dept of Health, dealing with health issues such
as Smoking and alcoholism, in a clinic style operation.
The site will be used for other activities. Councillor confirmed that no planning permission was required, but some
amendment to parking facilities is anticipated, that will require planning permission. Local residents have been “door
knocked this week” and he reported there was support, but actual numbers were not quoted.
In reply to members questions
1. Buildings will be sited close to Clubrooms no plan available for perusal
2. Only one pine tree to be removed
3. No “real” figures are available on numbers expected to use the facilities
4. Buildings being moved at TAFE request
5. Site was chosen by Koori community
6. Operating time expected to be 9-5, 3 days a week.
7. No planned use at weekend
8. Future use could expand
9. Council is attempting to avoid overuse of the area
10. There is no planned clash with times used by current users.
11. Committee of Management may come into operation, but no guidelines have been set as of yet.
12. No firm timeline but expected to start by 2012
13. No car parking loss is expected perhaps more.
14. Council will continue to maintain the area
15. Unable to advise if there was any plan to expand the proposed project in the future
16. Full plan not yet available
17. Future long term on-going sustainability is subject to Federal Govt funding Koori population in the catchment area is estimated at 800-1000, expected usage at any one time is 20
Please note:
The Committee wants to repeat to members that the Club has adopted a neutral stance on this project.
However any Club member is naturally free to comment to the Council on the proposal. But cannot quote themselves as
being representative of the Club nor its members.
