The United States men’s soccer team is very lucky to be advancing into the knockout stages of the World Cup: they have had not one but two of their goals taken away by bad calls of the officials. In sports, there are many contro- versial calls that have brought up debate. Fortunately, many sports such as basketball and tennis have added instant replay to their sport to make sure that the officials made the right call. However, in sports such as soccer, with no instant replay, the players cannot challenge an official’s call. The Soccer World Cup is the biggest sporting event in the world. It’s held every four years when 32 nations (previously qualified) com- pete to crown a soccer champion of the world. On Friday, June 18th, the U.S. men’s soccer team competed in their second group match against Slovenia at the World Cup, held this year in South Africa. After conceding 2 goals in the first half, the U.S. team was struggling to avoid elimination. However just three minutes into the second half, Landon Donovan, one of the more experienced players on the field, streaked down the sideline and fired a rocket past the Slovenian goalkeep- er, Samir Handanovic. The American fans were rejuvenated and encour- aged their team on. Meanwhile, the Slovenian fans nervously bit their fingers, hoping that their team could keep the lead. But in the 82nd minute, Jozy Altidore (from Boca Raton, FL) headed down a pass to Michael Bradley, the coach’s son, and he poked it past Handanovic for the equalizer. The entire bench of the U.S. team ran over to celebrate with him. At this point, Slovenia was just hoping for a draw. Just 3 minutes later, the U.S earned a free kick at a dangerous position. The crowd in Johannesburg sensed a goal approaching and there was tension in the air. Donovan crossed the ball over where substitute Maurice Edu volleyed it into the back of the net. Just as they started celebrating, head official Koman Coulibaly of Mali blew his whistle and waved off the goal. The American fans in the crowd held their heads in disbelief, then outrage. Midfielder, Michael Bradley, quickly ran over to Coulibaly to protest the call and demand an explanation. However, the official simply pointed his hand in the opposite direction, indicating Slovenia’s possession of the ball and kept his mouth shut. In soccer, it is not required that the referees explain the call and say who the foul was on. Therefore, it is up to the fans, play- ers, and coaches to interpret the offi- cial’s calls. “He couldn’t, or would- n't, explain” midfielder Landon Donovan said. According to an arti- cle by USA Today, as the final whis- tle blew, the American fans were bit- tersweet. Although their team just made a remarkable comeback, they were denied the win. That win meant 3 points that would have put them atop the group, and they didn’t know what or who the foul was on. Clearly, if there was any foul at all, it would have been for a penalty kick. But the U.S. had to put this game behind them and move on. With an England- Algeria draw, (which occurred later that day) the U.S. still had a decent chance of moving on, only needing a win against Algeria. (Continues below...) In both of their previous two group games, they had allowed a goal in the first 15 minutes. The U.S. quickly found a good rhythm and was controlling the game well throughout the first half. Midway through the first half, American Clint Dempsey found the back of the net and was starting to celebrate when the officials called it offside. This was the second bad call by the officials against the U.S. But the Americans kept on hammering the Algerians. Clint Dempsey almost scored in the 57th minute when his shot deflected off the post. The final 10 minutes of the game were nerve-wracking. The Americans still had to score a goal if they wanted to move on to the knockout stages. With two minutes left in injury/stoppage time, goalkeeper Tim Howard threw the ball down the field and started a counter- attack. Landon Donovan passed the ball to Jozy Altidore who passed the ball to Clint Dempsey. Dempsey fired a shot but it was deflected off by the keeper. The Algerians were about to clear the ball when Landon Donovan stormed in and blasted the rebound into the back of the net. The whole American bench ran over to Donovan and celebrated with him. They were going to the knockout stages!!! Some American fans in the crowd were crying with joy; the Algerian fans were crying with defeat. By the time this article is printed the US team would have already faced Ghana on Saturday, June 26. One game: one winner that moves on. Going to camp is a great way to enjoy the sum-mer. You not only share the summer vacationwith friends but you also get to have fun andenjoy new adventures with them. You workedhard all year long in school and now you deservea break that is safe at a special interest camp.I do not believe that the best way to spend the

summer is staying home inside all day long. Itmay be fun for the first few days but it gets bor-ing very quickly. You can only watch televisionand be on the computer for so many hours be-fore you start suffering from cabin fever. If youonly go to camp a few times over the short sum-mer it will be better than if you are a total househermit. If you cannot afford to go to camp, do not

worry because you will probably be able to findmany fun programs at your local library that arefree. They are not only educational but also veryrelaxing. Also, you do not have any pressuresthat you may feel in school regarding grades andhomework. Libraries sponsor free movie daysas well. I enjoy going the special programs atthe Coral Springs library. So far I have takenpart in "The Debate Camp" and a "CreativeWriting Workshop." I plan to take part in moreart events as the summer progresses at my won-derful library. The summer is also a great time to earn serv-

ice hours especially if you are in middle or highschool. You may volunteer at kids' camps thatmay be held in local churches, schools or other

town affiliated places. You are not only helpingyour community but you are also getting valu-able service hours. Helping others makes youfeel better. You have the opportunity to makenew friends of all ages.I hope that this summer you will convince

your parents to sign you up for camp or amazingprograms that are taking place at your local li-brary. I am sure that you will be able to find

something to keep you busy and happy over thesummer. Do something new so your brain keepson thinking. If you are interested in summersports, hobby or drama camps, call your townrecreation department for details and sign-up in-formation. There are so many camps and pro-grams that you will surely find one that interestsyou. Have a sizzling summer and get out intoyour community.

It is July and thatmeans summer fun isaround every corner! Thenext few months will befull of excitement. Somuch that you may for-get about taking care ofthe planet. The Earthneeds even more caringfor now, because of thisoil spill in the Gulf ofMexico.Having fun does not

mean you cannot be green. Here are some funways to be environmentally friendly this sum-mer…

1. Instead of going on vacation, try a "stayca-tion". Traveling uses lots of fuel that is environ-mentally unfriendly. Also cars and airplanes giveoff pollution into the air. "Staycationing" stillgives off some pollution, but not as much. You cando things like going to the park for a picnic or Bar-becue. Bring your outdoor toys, such as a ball orFrisbee, and have a good time with your family.Another fun thing to do is to bring crackers orbread to feed birds and/or fish (my grandmotherlikes feeding ducks).Clean up garbage that is on the ground and donot leave any of your own. Be sure to leave theplace cleaner than when you arrived. Other placesto go include the museum, beach, and any localsite that people would come to see. You can findattractions and restaurants in your area by goingto google.com. Type in the search line ‘things todo in’, then type your city and state in that order(example: things to do in boca raton florida). Be atourist in your own area.2. If you have water toys such as a slip ‘n slide, set them up in a place where they can water thegrass or the garden you planted for my column inthe March 2010 issue of this newspaper. This isnot only real easy, but it allows you to turn offsprinklers and save water.3. Set up a rain barrel to catch rain water. Trashcans are a cheaper option than actual rain barrels. An easy thing to do that will fill up your rain bar-rel faster is to remove the bottom part of a down-spout from your home gutters, and place the barrelunder it. To prevent evaporation of the water, cuta hole in the trash can’s lid large enough to put thedown spout through. Attach the lid on with thehole and spout lined up. This not only preventsevaporation, but it also stops the can from fallingover. Add tea tree and neem oil (available at anynatural food store) to the water to avoid mosqui-toes laying eggs in it.4. Tell others how to be green, too!

Journey to your own neighborhood this sum-mer!

I have four dogs. Two are Black Labs with Chow namedBear andMisty. One Long-Haired German shepherd namedOlivia and one German shepherd named Rex! We got Rexand Olivia frommy aunt, she breeds dogs. But we got Bearand Misty from the Humane Society. Bear and Misty willbe 13 in August. Olivia and Rex are still puppies. Oliviawas born October 26, 2009. Olivia and I have the samebirthday! When I started my summer vacation I never knewthis would happen. We left Florida and went to NewYork to visit family. While on Long Island we went toTarget. It was a regular shopping trip and then all of asudden it happened. Read on to find outWhen we were in line getting ready to pay we no-

ticed the people in front of us. An elderly lady waswith her husband. While she was paying for her things, her husband walked away. Normally, that would not bea problem but he hadAlzheimer's. Alzheimer's is a dis-ease that makes people forget things. All of a suddenthe lady was yelling loudly, "Jimmy!" She was scaredto death because she couldn't find him. We didn't knowit yet but Jimmy had left the store. My brother and I went right away to the exits to look

for him, but we didn't see him. Then, security wascalled to help search. Many people started looking allover the store. My mom, brother and I went out to the parking lot.

We looked all over and then headed around to the backof the store. Just as we were about to turn the corner,we looked and saw Jimmy way across the big parkinglot. He must have walked very fast to make it all theway across the lot and over to the grocery store. He was talking to another woman who was trying to

find out where he belonged. When we got to him wetold the lady we knew where his wife was. Jimmy saidhe could not remember where his wife was or wherehe was going. We started the long walk back acrossthe parking lot to bring Jimmy back.

When we got back to Target, Jimmy's wife and thesecurity guard were waiting. Another lady ran ahead totell Jimmy's wife he was found. We all met in theparking lot. Jimmy's wife was so happy and thankfulshe gave Dakota (my brother) and I $5.00 each. (Wesaid it was not necessary.)I felt that I did the right thing and I felt good about

myself for helping. I liked helping. If nobody helpedJimmy he may have never been found.Maybe you can remember this story when you meet

someone who needs help. You can go out and help peo-ple and the world too.

Newborn baby,Cute and adorable.Cute as a bug,Gently resting in my arms.

Hands, soft as pillows.Skin, pink as a pig.Baby hair, fuzzy and spiky.Tiny feet, fit in my palm.

Welcome, baby, to this world!

"Who is that?" my best friend Janiesaid staring at the girl on the otherside of the school's insanely smallpool. "I think thats the new girl. Iheard she came from Reardan."Reardan was one of the richestschools in Orange County.

As Janie and I were getting readyfor volleyball practice, we saw herget ready for swimming tryouts. Shewas small, not a very good and help-ful characteristic for a fast swimmer;and she had blonde hair with greentips from the extremely strong chlo-rine. The only thing I was actuallyjealous of was her tan. She was skin-toned up to the point where you cancompare her to a snicker's bar. Shehad a horrible goggle tan though, which made me feel a lot better

about myself. I hoped that she wasn'ta star swimmer.

A couple of weeks later, the tryoutswere way over and the list was up.As I lurked the new girl to see if shemade the team, I heard someone callmy name. "Ashley! Did I make it?" Itwas the new girl. When I quicklyglanced at the unsurprisingly shortlist of names, I gasped when hername was first on the list.

I saw this movie for my birthday. It was great!Directed by Mike Newell, and produced by thepeople who did Pirates of the Caribbean, this Dis-ney movie is a must-see. Based on a video game,it has no more violence than the Indiana Jonesmovies. There is a lot of fighting and bloody bat-tles, but not too much. And like most good movies,Prince of Persia does have a bit of romance andcomedy. Young people might not like it, and getscared.

This movie happens in the past, and takes placein the country of Persia. There was a lot of brightsun, and even the buildings looked like a work ofart. A lot of the movie takes place in the desert. When the people were traveling there seemed tobe endless sand. I am sure a lot of this movie iscomputer generated, but Newel always makes thepicture look realistic. The only things that evensort of looked animated were some venomoussnakes and the time travel effects.

An orphan named Dastan from the streets of Per-sia is found by the king and adopted into the royalfamily. With acrobatic and gravity defying skills,Prince Dastan (Jake Gyllenhaal) helps to invadethe city of Alumut. His uncle Nizam (Ben Kings-ley) claims the Alamutians were selling weaponsto Persia's enemies. Prince Dastan and a few othermen climb Alumut's wall, and open the gates. As

alarms go off, Princess Tamina (GemmaArterton)rushes to protect the city's most worthwhile item, the Dagger of Time. Dastan wins the dagger fromthe guard that Tamina had chosen to keep it safe.Dastan and Tamina keep stealing the dagger fromeach other. Eventually, they earn each other's trust,

and work together to save everyone. They meetnew allies and battle against the Hassansins, mys-terious and efficient killers. But who is the mas-termind behind all this, and what does he wantwith the Dagger of Time? This thrilling movie willkeep your eyes glued until the end!

On Thursday June 24 we went to the Au Rene Theater atThe Broward Center for theArts in Fort Lauderdale, to watcha Broadway Across America performance of Mary Poppins.Starring Caroline Sheen (who has played Eponine in LesMiserables and Truly Scrumptious in Chitti Chitti BangBang, among others) and Gavin Lee (who has acted in playssuch as Crazy for You, Me and My Girl and Oklahoma) anddirected by Richard Eyre.My mom, two sisters, and I dressed up and got ready, then

we hopped into our car and we were gone.We met my dad there and had a snack, then we walked

into an elevator packed full of people going the same waywe were. When we got out of the elevator, we found our-selves on a bridge that led to the theater. It was a beautifulplace and the seats were lovely. I enjoyed it greatly! The show began at eight o'clock and began with Bert pop-

ping out of the beautiful setting and singing a solo with theTownspeople surrounding him and then the children (Janeand Michael) coming on, running after their kite and awayfrom their nanny (Katie Nanna). The set was LOVELY and it seemed as if there were a mil-

lion set pieces! Each with its own unique spirit! The first(amazing) scene change was Bert pushing the outside of theBanks house to the inside to reveal a beautiful living roomand elegant (usable) stairs that led to the unseen upstairs! Onthe stairs stood Katie Nanna with all her bags and belong-ings leaving as Mrs. Banks enters. The show took the original tale and twisted the storyline

but although it was different, it was spectacular and includedmost of the songs, just in other, unexpected, places. At first the story begins a lot like the way the movie did

with Katie Nanna leaving as Mrs. Banks comes home. Stillthere were differences that were spotted at once, including:the "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" scene, the scene inthe park that had statues that came to life andMr. Banks' songat the beginning of the show. At the end of Act 1, thingsbegan to really change, Mary Poppins left and when Act 2started an evil woman (Mrs. Andrew) came in to be theirnanny. There were two scenes that weren't put in and one I would

have liked different. The scenes I wanted to see and ended upnot being in the show were: "I Love to Laugh" and "StayAwake". I think that they chose to remove "I Love to Laugh"because the show would have been too long (which it alreadywas). The other one it was more a song than a scene and ifyou've seen the Mary Poppins movie you'll know what Imean. It's a solo by Mary and is very beautiful and flowing,I think the case with this one was that it was very small. Ithink that it really didn't matter because it was a Mary's soloand the show was called Mary Poppins. So I think theyshould have had it in. The scene I would have liked different

was one of my favorites: "Let's go Fly a Kite." In the 1964movie this song was the ending and it was lovely, but in thisstage performance the finale was taken by their made-upsong "Anything can Happen if You Let It". This new song isgood and encouraging but I still like the original ending bet-ter. "Let's go Fly a Kite" was a scene with just Bert, Jane andMichael singing in the park, although it was beautiful (don'tget me wrong) I was really looking forward to that big fi-nale!

(continues on the side...)

(Cont.)

The "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" was really cre-ative and new ENTIRELY especially when Bert and theTownspeople began to "act" out the spelling of this wordwhile Mary Poppins sang the letters! This is a 34 letterword written by the Sherman brothers that according to the1964 movie means "something to say when there is noth-ing to say." The choreography was very original and ex-citing. My mom really liked this scene. The performance had special effects including, Bert

walking/tapdancing upside down, Mary Poppins flyingover the audience and her umbrella becoming huge andfloating above the actors' heads! One of my favorite scenes was "Step in Time". At some

point I actually thought it wasn't going to come around, but it did! The scenery was beautiful! And the choreogra-phy was award-winning! I loved that scene. I think mywhole family enjoyed it!I realized that Jane and Michael were a bit different. In

the movie, they were sweeter kids who were misunder-stood and in the performance they were more rude thanslightly "left out" and were understood for what they were:two, not that nice, children who always ran away fromtheir nannies!I think that the performance was great and being there

was a wonderful experience and I recommend it to you.The show already went to perform somewhere else, but ifthey come next year or some other time, then you shouldwatch the movie and then go see this excellent perform-ance of Mary Poppins!I really loved this show. It was like nothing I have ever

seen before. I went in not knowing what to expect andcame out greatly impressed, and I think, if you ever see theshow, you will too, so I invite you to see the show throughmy review and come with me as the lights go out!

On T.V, there have been a lot of funcartoons. Many of them were greatwhile they lasted, but had to be cutshort due to a lack of ideas. One car-toon that has been not only very en-joyable but long lasting isSpongeBob Squarepants. A dashingoptimistic sea sponge who lives inthe peculiar underwater city calledBikini Bottom, where strange thingshappen to him and his friends.

You have probably heard of theshow, but you may not know thatSpongebob Squarepants has beenaround for nearly 11 years. But it didnot begin so successfully. When theshow premiered in 1999, the showstruggled due to the fact of its in-ability to attract a steady audience. The creators thought it would becancelled before the second season.Soon, however, the show began togrow until it was what it is today.Since then seven seasons and 267episodes have aired and kids love it.To me, Spongebob is an excellentclassic that will entertain kids likeme for years to come. It's just asponge, its crazy, sometimes so out-of control, even annoying and yet it'smy most favorite cartoon.

This is a delicious recipe that re-quires absolutely zero cooking, sono sitting in front of the hot stovewhen it's 90 degrees or hotter out-side.

There once was a girl named Jessica.

Jessica has hair as black as black licorice, whichis her favorite candy. She is tall and slim. Her fa-vorite color is purple. Her favorite food is BakedAlaska. She says that, just to seem fancy. Jessicabelieves in wishing on shooting stars, wishingbones, four leaf clovers, and birthday candles. Shehas always wanted to be treated like an adult. She

would like to be able to go to the mall with herfriends Kristie and Mary, without adults. Jessicaalso wants a phone, but, her parents say she's tooyoung, isn't responsible, and is never left alone sothey think she doesn't need one.

It was the night before her birthday. She saw ashooting star and she wished to be treated like anadult. Her mom came in and said "Be careful whatyou wish for, honey". Jessica said "OK" andwashed up for bed. The next morning she was ex-pecting breakfast in bed, which Jessica's Mommade for her every birthday. Instead she was alone. She washed up and put on her clothes that looked

different.

Jessica went out of her bedroom to find her Momand Dad. She found them eating breakfast. Jessicaasked "Where is my plate?" They said she can justmake some breakfast herself. Jessica tried to makesome eggs and bacon and she almost burnt thehouse down. Her parents said she'd be late forwork. She laughed assuming it was a joke and sheasked for a ride. They said she can just take her carand threw her the keys. She asked if they got her anew car for her birthday. They said no, that shebought her own White Range Rover with her ownmoney from her job as Entertainment Lawyerwhich she will be late for. She looked puzzled andwent outside to find a White Range Rover. Jessicasaid she was only fifteen years old. They said noand that she's twenty two. Jessica asked if she isn'tfifteen then why is she in the same house as them. Her parents said she was on a business trip to an of-fice which was nearby so she came to visit themthere in Texas where she grew up. Jessica askedfor directions still thinking it was a joke. Her par-ents looked worried. Her Mom put her hand onJessica's forehead and asked if she was feeling OKand sent her to her room. Jessica said she was fineseveral times, but, they didn't believe her. Shethought about school and her friends and shethought of what'd happen if her parents made herpay the bills. She fell asleep from all the thinking.

When she woke up she saw that it was threeo`clock in the afternoon and that her favorite showwas about to come on. She put some popcorn inthe microwave and got a bottle of Root beer andsat down. "She was walking in a bridal shop onflushing queens `till her boyfriend kicked her out inone of those crushing scenes." Jessica loves to singto her favorite show called "The Nanny." She got

up and went outside her bedroom and sat downwith her mom and said that she gets it. Her Momsaid "Get what?" Jessica said she gets that sheshould be careful what she wishes for. Her momsaid she should, but, that she doesn't know whatshe's talking about.

Jessica went into her room. She realized that itwasn't a joke or lesson and that the wish she hadmade came true. Jessica sobbed about not going toprom or not having a sweet sixteen. She said overand over again that she'll be careful about what shewishes for. In the blink of an eye, she was in herbed and it was early in the morning. Her mom hadbreakfast in bed for her. She was fifteen again! Shedanced around her room.

Later her friends Kristie and Mary came over.Kristie was talking about how her parents won't lether go to Sarah Walters party and Kristie wishedshe could be treated like an adult. Jessica smiledand said "Be careful what you wish for."

"How are we going to train?" Super Pup asked again.

"You are going to learn how to fly. Now I'm going to takeyour biscuit."

"Oh, can I have one? I am very hungry."

Tolerance rolled her eyes. No you mutt! No biscuit for you. This is no ordinary biscuit. I put my magic touch on it. If youwant it, then catch me!"

Tolerance sped into the airwith the biscuit on her back, ex-pecting a chase. But Super Puponly gazed and watched whileshe flew into space. Then hereached into the bag andscooped up five biscuits. Sud-denly Tolerance was right be-hind him. Once again, she ranout of tolerance.

"You are supposed to chaseme, not stuff yourself," sheshrieked.

"Oh sorry, I was hungry and Idon't know how to fly," stuttered

Super Pup.

"Preposterous! I saw you fly. You flew when you were play-ing catch with Tom. You flew when you went to pick apples. Now, if you want the yummiest, scrumptious, mouth-wateringbiscuit, then chase me," she jeered.

Tolerance flew up in the air. Super Pup felt so tempted. Hefinally started to chase her.

"You are doing well, but can you catch me?"

Saying this, Tolerance soared higher and higher. Super Pupflew higher, but then he crashed into a kite.

"Ahh! He fell down and then with a greater effort, he leaptinto the air, much higher this time. Soon he was dodging stars.Tolerance was still much higher than him. But he knew thatshe would soon give up. No, Tolerance wasn't giving up. Shereached the next universe and then the next one.

"Hurry up, or I'll throw your biscuit into a black hole. Comeon!"

Super Pup realized that he was being trained to chase flyingvillains. He flew faster and faster. Now he was directly be-hind Tolerance. Then he spotted a black hole. In a flash, he wasabove Tolerance.

"GIVE ME THAT BISCUIT," howled Super Pup.

"No!" Tolerance yelled.

Soon he was in front of Tolerance.

"Biscuit! Catch it!" Snapped Tolerance.

She threw the biscuit and flew back to Earth. Super Pup flewas fast as he could, but the biscuit was out of his reach. Hethought long and hard about super hero's powers. Finally hethought of Elastic Man. "I am Elastic Man. I can reach the superdelicious biscuit with my super amazing powers. I got thepower to be fifty feet tall. I got the power!" Super Pup thought.Suddenly Super Pup grew and grew until he was five hundredfeet tall. Super Pup was so big he couldn't see the biscuit any-more, but everyone could see him. Including Olivia, the queenof witches.

-*-

Olivia searched all over for the magic apple, but never foundthe powerful fruit.

"Oh crystal orb on the floor! What is this mutt's power core?"she asked ‘the Ball of the Future.'

"The K9's name is Leroy, he is a young golden retriever. He

lives in GreenWood Forest. His owner's name is Thomas FrankReef. He ate a red magic apple and he got super powers. Hechanged his name to Super Pup and now he is training with histrainer, Tolerance."

The witch gave the ball a smirk. "Tolerance of all animals. The one who robbed me of my powers. The apple was the onlyway to get back what she stole, she meant to give it away. Nopowers no war. What war was she talking about anyway?"

The crystal ball replied by saying "Ask your daughters."

Olivia rolled her gray eyes and summoned all her five daugh-ters: Amanda, Betty, Claire, Dakota, and little Ella. Amandacame first, then Betty and Claire, then Dakota fell through theceiling. "Where is-'' Olivia began. "Hi Mama!" They all jumpedwhen they heard the squeaky voice.

"Oh Ella you were sneaky, I'm so proud. Anyway,'' theirmother continued, "Crystal Ball told me about a war you girlswere talking about. What is this war? Remember you can tell

me everything."Amanda shrugged, she replied with a simple ‘Ididn't do it' and walked out. She was followed by Betty andClaire. Then Dakota. "Ella do you know anything about thiswar?"-*-Finally Super Pup found the tiny biscuit. When he gobbled

it up he started falling. Down, down, down, then he thought ofTiny, the fairy who could turn tiny. "I am Tiny, I am small. Iam the tiniest of them all." He chanted in his mind. Then he be-came smaller than a fly. He landed on Tom who almost swat athim. Then he thought of his own size. He became the size of anew born puppy.

"Leroy?" Tom asked.

"Yes?" replied Leroy. Then Leroy remembered Tom wasn'tsupposed to know about the training. "Oh look at the time"Leroy began. "Yeah 1:45 AM! What are you doing here? Whyaren't you in bed?" Leroy hesitated "Um ."(To be continued...)

Having just finished a job, I had noth-ing else to lay one hand on, I decided tosteal one of my brother's book that hehad checked out and not yet had achance to munch it.

Gordon Korman wrote about a mannamed CapricornAnderson who lives ina commune called Garland farm. After

the death of his parents, Capricorn livedwith his grandmother Rain. One dayRain falls out of a tree and Cap (Capri-corn) almost gets arrested for drivingwithout a license (he learned to drivewhen he was eight). While Rain is inthe hospital, Cap has to stay with FloraDonnelly and her teenage daughter So-phie. That's not the only change in hislife; he also has to go to Claverage Mid-dle School (C Average is what the stu-dents call it). A kid named Zach Powers

and his friends make Cap the presidentso as to ridicule him. Soon they start pil-ing pranks on poor Cap. One of the girlseven starts writing fake love letters toCap. Things are not going easy at homeeither for the miserable boy. But be-cause of his positive attitude, things fi-nally begin to turn around for Cap.Then, just when he has the whole schoolon his side, more trouble bubbles up forCap once again. Oh! no, I've told youtoo much. If you want to catch up with

the rest of this thrilling story, you've gotto find your way to the library and huntfor this book. Who knew a simple prob-lem like not having anything to read, lead me to enjoy such a great book?

Though recommended for EightGraders, it can be fun for kids like me,about to enter fifth grade. Guess what, now my brother is jealous of me for Ifinished the book even before he couldset his eyes on it!

One strange Monday morningI looked out from my bed,And instead of light flowingSaw a sight full of dread:

The sun was not thereOn the Eastern hilltop,Instead was a dark lair,A big mushy plop

I looked out againAnd to my great surprise,Beheld that loud rainKept behind the sunrise

The storm was like a nightmareThat lasted forever,And no brightness was thereFor the night ended never

I live in south Florida, so it is always hot here, especially in the summer, when the air isn't clear. But some people like to sit on a bench in the sun, others like me stay inside, we don't think sunburn is fun.

Kitties love to run around the yard and play, they like to do that, eat, and sleep all day.Now they would rather stay inside and asleep, all curled in a ball without making a peep.

The plants all wilt when the rain doesn't flow, because the sun is so hot the plants can't grow. You have to water the plants or they will die,but outside the sun is so very very hot, oh my!

Summer feels like six months, but it's really only three, and if the planet didn't tilt, then all year summer it would be.When it's summer in the north, it's winter in the south, the seasons all keep changing, that's what they're all about.

Summer brings all the really really long days of the year, that gives more time for kids to bring happiness and cheer.Summer gives us way more sunlight than any other season, because the earth is closer to the sun, and that is the reason.
