Hello Race Fans, First we would like to thank Alan and the Outlaw Drags ( BIHRA ) for letting us run our karts down the drag strip for a demo. Of the 3 karts that were there I made the fastest run in my TAG kart with a 10.48 sec. and 63 mph. in the 1/8 mile run. Darin King and Shane Walsh in there sportsman kt100s were only a 1sec. behind me. We had a lot of fun and meet some new racers. We hope that some of them come out and try a ride in a kart soon. The only bad thing that happened was there were 2 mopeds that were faster then me but not next time. Our June race was dry and fast with Drew Holloway the fast JR-2 thanks to Pa Holloway after burning down Makena’s motor in a sportsman heat race. She’ll be back next month with a new motor so watch out little bro. Darin King was the fast kt100 sportsman. I had the fast TAG but Roland Hall has worked out most of his bugs and gave me a good run. Next month there should be some real close racing. Tim Eback was our only shifter this month due to Terry and Sean taking there karts to Maui for a few month to get ready for the state championships in December. Good luck.REWARD!!! As you can see by this picture this month that someone is driving stakes into the asphalt of our new track. The BIKC will give $20 to any one that gives us a picture of the stake and the car ( in the same pics.) that is respon-sible for doing this to the track. Please help us find this person. Our next races will on July 3rd.-4th. and August 7th-8th. The race on September 11th is going to be a money race so if you think that you are fast and can last for 30 laps come on down and put your money were your mouth is. For more info. call Tom Sluder at 808-939-9746.

and graphics.Dave tells us that an 18 year old kid out of Washington state gets the nod for the working chopped convertible top. “Everyone thinks it’s a Carson top” says Dave. The craftsmanship is top notch! And note the wing vents that have been cut down to size. It all looks factory made. Oh, almost forgot, how about those pint sized windshield wipers! The low down on the suspension was achieved with drop spindles up front with disc brakes and adjustable spring plates in the rear. The wheels are Gotti 2 piece units with 8 inch rims up front and 10 inch rims in back, thus the need for the 2 inch wider fenders. The custom interior starts with a pair of Recaro seats and Recaro steering wheel fixed to a GM aluminum tilt steering column. Custom door panels with billet knobs, VDO gauges and an Auto Meter tach round off the lowered cockpit.Dave say’s he not really ready to give up the bug that has so many great memories, but it is getting harder to get in and out of it. So if you see “O” Yeller cruisin’ the streets with a For Sale sign on it, a good deal on a very fast VW Bug maybe in your future.

OUTLAWS

Page 12: July 2010
Page 13: July 2010

It’s been 2 years since we last ran into Dado Kahaunaele of the Na Kane O Ke Awawa (Men from the Valley) motorcycle club. We featured his beautiful custom V-Twin in June of 2007 and at that time he told me about his desire to build a Local Boy.

Inspired by some of the OG’s he grew up around and also his buddies like Paki of Pilau Boys, Matsu and Greg Fonseca on Oahu who helped with the resurgence of the Local Boys, Dado started putting his ideas together for his tribute to this time gone by.

The build started with an ’81 Shovel Head. The 88 cube S&S was built with S&S ported and polished heads, rods, 510 Engle Cam and single fire igni-tion. Although the bike is equipped with a kick start, it is also equipped with an electric start because of the hot rod motor or you would be there for days trying to kick it!

Cross over pipes with fish tails also give the ride it’s Local Boy styling as do the full fenders, 5 gallon tank, running boards, crash bars and my favorite, the big ass solo seat and billet luggage rack!

The Heritage front end and fender are accompanied by 39” wide handle-bars, PM forward controls and super sweet billet brake rotors and GMA billet calipers.

The okole got more of the same trick upgrades with billet brakes, chromed swing arm, chrome rigid struts and old skool hinged rear fender.

By now your asking about the trick rollers. They are the vintage style “Invaders” by Chica wrapped in Avon Venom rubber.

The paint is just nuts! Eric Gomes at Aftermath Painting sprayed the Candy Green over black base with green flakes. The graphics are by Ryan at Art Works.

Dado sends a big Mahalo out to Gale and Kenneth Higa for the build and all the cool parts and braddah Ed at “Special Ed’s Customs”

Also congratulations and best wishes to braddah Greg and braddah Love on your new club on Oahu called the Lava Riders. Thanks for the inspiration and for being good braddahs!Photos and story by Nelson Parker

hood scoop too? And it looks right at home doesn’t it? The firewall and inner fender wells also got some attention and all the wiring was tucked away for a real clean engine compartment. The emblems were shaved and out back a roll pan was fabricated and the tailgate was smoothed. The antenna was frenched in and a third brake light added on the rear of the cab. Holes were cut in the side steps for the working stacks and Oak strips added to match the Oak in the bed.

The paint is Prowler Purple with Viper Race Yellow and Ford Performance Red flames that were sprayed by Albert. In fact the Blue pinstripes were the only non-owner enhancement done on this heavy hauler.

In the interior Albert’s wife embroidered the Ford logos into the ’97 F-150 seats before sewing up all the upholstry. Donald updated the sounds with a Clarion VZ309 DVD multimedia unit in the custom center console and Phoenix Gold ZO 6.0 speakers in the doors that make cruisin’ in paradise that much sweeter! Eat your hearts out Michigan .
