The Sacrament of Marriage can be celebrated at a time convenient to the couple and in accordance with the parish schedule. The date and time of the celebration must be scheduled only with a priest or deacon of the parish. Since it is necessary for the

couple to participate in marriage preparation prior to their wedding, the couple must contact a

priest or deacon of the parish preferably one year prior to the de-sired wedding date, but no less than six months prior to their de-sired date. The St. Cecilia Wedding Guidelines 2017, which is available from the Parish Office and on our website, contains additional information and guidelines. Also, please see the Wed-ding Music Guidelines and Wedding Music Outline for guidance and assistance in choosing your wedding music.

SACRAMENT OF MARRIAGE CELEBRATION

MESSAGE FROM FATHER JIM

MARRIAGE CORNER

“Whoever does not take up his cross and follow me is not worthy of me.” (Mt 10:38) Jesus reminds us that we cannot always be tak-ers; we must be givers as well as receivers. In giving to each other we learn to receive from God. Be aware today of the rewards you receive through every act of self-giving.

ORDINATION

We are pleased to announce that one of our parishioners, Charles Bernhard, will be ordained a permanent deacon by Archbishop Michael Jackels on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, Hiawatha at 10:30AM. The ordination is open to the public so you are welcome to attend this beautiful celebration. Charles hopes many people from the parish will be able to witness his ordination on July 15. Thank you.

What St. Cecilia means to our family is “family”. St. Cecilia’s offers our children the sense of having an extended family at school. We are always greeted with a warm welcome, friendly smile, and feeling of happiness

whenever we walk through the front doors. We are all members of God’s family through Christ Jesus and the gift He gave us in the Holy Spirit. It is comforting to us to know that our children are surrounded by others who share our faith beliefs and values while they are away from home and at school. It is a blessing that our children are to be able to share their spirituality openly and with-out ridicule at school. What St Cecilia’s means most of all is that our children receive a quality education by a staff of professionals who truly care about the academic and spiritual development of each and every student. — Steve & Diane Hustedt

STEWARDSHIP: Both the first reading and the Gospel today speak of hospitality and welcome. Our ministers of hospitality are a most visible example of using one’s time and talents to welcome the people of God. But the Gospel assures us that all who give even just “a cup of cold water” to one of His lowliest ones will be rewarded.

Registration is in full swing for our 2017-2018 Faith Formation and Catechists of the Good Shepard (CGS) classes! CGS spots are filling up quickly, so if you are interested in that program, sign up as soon as you can. To find the registration link, go to the St. Cecilia website, the Faith Formation tab, and click on “Registration” on the drop

down menu. If you have any questions or difficulties, please call 515-232-3514.

STEPHEN MINISTRY

"Where two or three are gathered in my name, I am among them."

In Matthew 18, Jesus promises to be with us. That's one of the great miracles of Stephen Ministry. When a Stephen Minister meets one-to-one with his or her care receiver, Jesus is present too. He brings the power of his transforming love and the peace, healing and comfort that only God can give.

Words from a care receiver: "I felt guilty about being angry with God. My Stephen Minister didn't think I was terrible. He was very patient and just listened and cared. He demonstrated Jesus' unconditional love and helped me to trust God again."

For further information and contact help, call or text Anne Schmitt (515-291-8257) or Deacon Mark Bortle (515-291-4989).

In today’s Gospel, Jesus minces no words: “whoever does not take up his cross and follow after me is not worthy of me.” Few of us will be called to die the way Jesus did. But to be his disciples means having the willingness to lay down our lives with him and for him. Exercising good stewardship of the Gospel requires taking up one’s cross daily and following Jesus. There will be dying to do on our way to the Father. It could be unfair treatment, health problems, fatigue, frustration at work, failed relationships, loneliness or sadness. If we, like Jesus, encounter and accept suffering, we will bring the hope of the cross to others. There is no cross the Lord’s love cannot transcend. In your reflections this week, consider how your cross, no matter how heavy, might become an instrument of hope and Christ’s love.
