The Civil War

Began: April 12,1861

Ended: April 9,1865.

Introduction…1861-1865. America was a warzone. It was

divided into 2 countries. The Union, and theConfederate. Why was this? Some say it wasbecause of Slavery. Some say it was because

of States Rights. Actually, it was a combinationof the two. The Confederate(South) wanted more

States rights. The Union(North) was against slavery.America was divided, with two very different

visions. This marked the beginning of theCivil War.

Union vs. Confederate

The Union outnumbered the Confederate21 states to 11 states.

But that didn’t stop the Confederate.They persevered, and continued to

achieve their vision.

Ulysses S Grant: Lieutenant General of the Union army.

These four helped the Union get closer to their vision.However, there were others who contributed also.

Nathaniel P. Banks: A Major General of the Union.

Benjamin F. Butler: Another Major Gen. of the Union.

Robert E. Lee: A main General of the Confederate.Braxton Bragg: Another Gen. of the Confederate.Gen P.G.T Beauregard: Another helpfu l Gen.

• The Civil War all started with the battle of Fort Sumter. Confederate forces fired on Union forces, and eventually conquered Fort Sumter. April 12–13, 1861 was the date.

First Battle of Bull RunBoth the Confederate & Union fired on each

other at Bull Run. The Union hoped tocapture the Confederate’s capital of

Richmond, VA, while the Confederatehad to stand their ground. Union forces

eventually retreated to Washington, D.C.

Aft er so many victories, the Union knewthey had the Confederate on the run.

They knew this was going to be the last batt le. Confederate’s leader

Robert E. Lee had to hold out or else the Confederate would not achieve their

EndgameYep, the Battle of Appomattox Courthouse

was the end of the Civil War. GeneralUlysses S. Grant forced General Robert E. Lee

to surrender the Confederate Army.

The Union had gained their vision & victory.

If the Civil War never happened, Slaverymight still exist today. America would bedivided, and in complete chaos. Another

Civil War could possibly happen.
