STEWARDSHIP: “He instructed them to take nothing for the journey but a walking stick – no food, no sack, no money in their belts.” (MARK 6:8). How different we are from the Apostles who took nothing when they ventured out to serve God. Today, we make our journey through life more difficult because of all the material baggage that we drag along. When we let go of our material goods, we can serve God more freely with love and joy.

SUMMER IS HERE With the arrival of warmer weather it might be tempting to attend Mass dressed in clothing more appropriate for a picnic or sporting event. Keep in mind that modest church attire is a sign of respect for God and fellow worshippers. Please dress appropriately when attending Mass.
RELIGIOUS FREEDOM: Pope Francis has stated that religious freedom is a fundamental human right. Each individual must be free, alone or in association with others, to seek the truth, and to openly express his or her religious convictions, free from intimidation and external compulsion. Genuine worship of God bears fruit not in discrimination, hatred and violence, but in respect for the sacredness of life, respect for the dignity and freedom of others, and loving commitment to the welfare of all. It is protected in the First Amendment of the Bill of Rights of our U.S. Constitution. If you haven’t done so already, please voice your opposition to the abortion and contraception mandate by calling President Obama at the White House at 202-456-1111 or U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Sylvia Mathews Burwell at 202-205-5445. You may clarify that the mandate is in violation of our First Amendment right to religious freedom at: www.whitehouse.gov/contact.

MASS INTENTION ENVELOPES To make it easier to order a Mass for your beloved dead or for any other occasion like an anniversary, birthday, etc., you may pick up the new Mass Intention envelope in the vestibule at St. Philip's or next to the bulletins on the table at St. Jude’s. You can fill it out and place it in the collection basket. Weekend and Holy Day Masses are $20 and weekday Masses are $15.
When you are planning your estate, please consider putting St. Philip or St. Jude in your will. Leaving a donation to your parish
is a wonderful way to be remembered while supporting the ongoing needs of the parish. Also, Memorial Donation forms are available on the parish website, and can be downloaded and printed.
DIOCESE OF NORWICH PILGRIMAGE TO THE CZECH REPUBLIC, AUSTRIA AND HUNGARY

Most Reverend Michael R. Cote, Bishop of Norwich, will lead an 11-day pilgrimage to many holy sites. In the Czech Republic the pilgrimage will visit the statue of the Infant Jesus of Prague, as well as enjoy a boat ride on Europe’s largest subterranean lake. In Austria we will visit St. Stephen’s Cathedral, the State Opera House and, while in Hungary, the largest indoor market in Europe. Price includes motorcoach to/from JFK airport, departure lunch, all tips, daily Mass, breakfast and dinner daily, departure tax and fuel surcharge.

ST JUDE GARDEN-Weeding & Watering Help Needed
We need volunteers to help weed and water through the summer. It takes no more than 20 minutes of
your time to help us ensure we have a strong and productive crop to deliver to those in need in Willington. Our new compost bin and watering system were Nye Deskus' Eagle Scout project, making it easier to help care for the garden that gives to so many. There is a signup sheet at the back of the church. Thank you for your help.

The ASHFORD FOOD BANK distribution is usually the 4th Friday, from 7-9 am at the Living Proof Church of Ashford.
The WILLINGTON FOOD PANTRY is open 2 days weekly: Mon, 4 pm - 6 pm, and Wed, 10 - Noon. Patrons must be Willington residents and be screened by the social worker. Folks can come once monthly (on the day of their choice) to select shelf-stable food for their household. If you need a Gluten-free host, you no longer need to enter the Sacristy before Mass, because the Gluten-free hosts are already consecrated in the tabernacle. Just request one during communion.
Eucharistic Adoration: two adorers are needed each hour after Mass on Fridays at St. Philip 9am to 2pm. We need people who can commit to one hour, as well as people able to substitute when necessary. All are invited.

PARENTS DIVORCING AND/OR RESOLVING CHILD

A monthly 2- part Spanish/bilingual parenting education class is held in Willimantic. Attendance at both sessions in the Willimantic class is required for the certificate of completion. Home Buyers and Foreclosure Prevention Classes: For help with purchasing a home, fallen behind on mortgage payments or help with budgeting or filling out applications for EMAP. St. Joseph’s Living Center, The ONLY Catholic healthcare facility in the Norwich Diocese, is seeking volunteers to join our chapel team assisting during 11 am daily Mass ESPECIALLY on the weekends.
