6 PROVIDE ALL NECESSARY TEMPORARY OR PERMANENT CAPS OR PLUGS FOR PIPING. DO NOT LEAVE

PIPING OPEN ENDED.

7 INSTALL WYE TYPE OR TIME AND A HALF FITTINGS WITH BALANCING DAMPERS FOR ROUND BRANCH

RUN OUTS TO EACH DIFFUSER. BRANCH DUCTS TO DIFFUSERS SHALL BE OF EQUAL SIZE NECK

DIAMETER.

8 PROVIDE PRE-INSULATED FLEXIBLE ROUND DUCT BRANCHES TO DIFFUSERS. DO NOT EXCEED 6' IN

TOTAL LENGTH OF FLEXIBLE DUCT.

9 COORDINATE LOCATION OF ALL DIFFUSERS, GRILLES AND REGISTERS TO BE SYMMETRICAL WITH

RESPECT TO LIGHTS AND CEILING GRIDS. SEE REFLECTED CEILING PLAN, LIGHTING PLAN, AND FIRE

PROTECTION FLOOR PLAN.

10 COORDINATE THE LOCATIONS OF ALL DUCTWORK WITH ANY PLUMBING LINES AND ELECTRICAL

CONDUIT. IN THE EVENT THAT ANY DUCT CANNOT BE ROUTED AS SHOWN ON THE CONTRACT

DRAWINGS; MODIFY THE DUCT AS REQUIRED, MAINTAINING THE SAME NET FREE AREA AS THE

DESIGNED DUCT.

11 PROVIDE DOUBLE THICK TURNING VANES IN ALL 90 DEGREE SQUARE ELBOWS IN SUPPLY OR

EXHAUST DUCTWORK.

12 INSTALL ALL THERMOSTATS AND SWITCHES AT 48" ABOVE FINISH FLOOR PER ADA REQUIREMENTS.

FOLLOW MANUFACTURER'S RECOMMENDATIONS FOR CO2 SENSOR.

13 PROVIDE ACCESS DOORS IN CEILINGS AND DUCTWORK TO ALL FIRE DAMPERS, BALANCING

DAMPERS OR OTHER MECHANICAL DEVICES OR EQUIPMENT REQUIRING SERVICE ACCESS.

14 BEFORE ORDERING ANY GRILLES, REGISTERS OR DIFFUSERS, VERIFY THE CEILING CONSTRUCTION IN

ALL AREAS OF THE PROJECT. IF GRILLES, REGISTERS OR DIFFUSERS SPECIFIED ARE NOT

COMPATIBLE WITH THE TYPE OF CEILING CONSTRUCTION, THEN ORDER PROPER TYPE OF GRILLE,

REGISTER OR DIFFUSER TO COMPATIBLE WITH THE RESPECTIVE CEILING.

15 INSTALL INSULATED CONDENSATE DRAINS FROM HEAT PUMPS AND AIR CONDITIONING UNITS TO

NEAREST MOP BASIN, OUTDOORS OR INDIRECT CONNECTION TO SOIL OR WASTE LINE.

16 INSTALL ALL FIRE / SMOKE DAMPERS IN A U.L. APPROVED MANNER. ALL FIRE / SMOKE DAMPERS TO

BE U.L. LISTED.

17 PROVIDE AN ON-SITE INVESTIGATION INTO THE EXISTING MECHANICAL AND PLUMBING SYSTEMS AND

SITE CONDITIONS OF THE PROJECT PRIOR TO SUBMITTING A BID. CHANGES TO THE DRAWINGS AFTER

THE BID IS AWARDED FOR FAILURE OF A PRE-BID VISIT SHALL BE AT OWN EXPENSE.PRESENT ANY

CONFLICTS ARISING FROM THE PRE-SITE VISIT AND THE CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTS TO THE

ARCHITECT / ENGINEER PRIOR TO SUBMITTING BID.

PROJECT SCHEDULE WITH SCHEDULE IMPACTS, REASON FOR CHANGE AND REQUESTOR SIGNATURE.

RECEIVE APPROVAL FROM ARCHITECT / ENGINEER PRIOR TO MAKING SUCH CHANGES.

19 NOTIFY AHJ - AUTHORITY HAVING JURISDICTION FOR REQUIRED INSPECTIONS PRIOR TO

PROGRESSING TO NEXT PHASE OF CONSTRUCTION. AN EXAMPLE IS DUCTWORK INSTALLED ABOVE

CEILINGS PRIOR TO INSTALLATION OF CEILING.

20 WRITTEN PRIOR APPROVAL REQUIRED FOR ALL PROPOSED SUBSTITUTIONS OF EQUIPMENT AND

MATERIALS 10 DAYS PRIOR TO BID DATE OF PROJECT. SUBMITTALS : ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF

COMPLIANCE DOES NOT RELIEVE THE CONTRACTOR OF RESPONSIBILITY FOR PERFORMANCE OF THE

WORK IN COMPLIANCE WITH ALL PROVISIONS AND REQUIREMENTS OF THE CONTRACT DOCUMENTS.

JOB MEASUREMENTS AND COORDINATION OF ALL DIMENSIONS FOR PROPER FIT OF ALL PARTS OF

THE WORK AND PERFORMANCE OF ALL EQUIPMENT SUPPLIED TO MEET SPECIFICATION

REQUIREMENTS ARE, AND REMAIN, SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE CONTRACTOR. CHANGES TO

THE PROJECT RESULTING IN CONTRACTOR'S SUBMITTALS SHALL BE AT CONTRACTOR'S OWN

21 CONFORM TO ALL STATE AND LOCAL CODES, RULES AND ORDINANCES.

22 SECURE AND PAY ALL FEES AND PERMITS PERTAINING TO THE CONTRACT.

23 ALL EQUIPMENT INSTALLED IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE MANUFACTURER'S WRITTEN INSTRUCTIONS.

PROVIDE ALL HANGERS AND SUPPORTS REQUIRED FOR A COMPLETE INSTALLATION.

24 SCHEDULE ALL SHUTDOWNS THAT AFFECT UTILITIES AND PORTIONS OF THE BUILDING THAT MUST

REMAIN IN OPERATION WITH THE OWNER.

25 COORDINATE WITH THE ARCHITECT / ENGINEER AND OTHER CONTRACTORS. PROVIDE FULL

COORDINATION OF WORK WITH OTHER TRADES PRIOR TO FABRICATION, PURCHASE AND / OR

INSTALLATION OF ALL WORK.

26 ALL RIGGING, HANDLING AND THE PROTECTION OF MATERIALS ARE PART OF THE RESPONSIBILITIES.

27 COMPLETELY SEAL ALL PIPING, CONDUIT, CABLES, AND DUCTWORK SLEEVES AS THEY PASS

THROUGH FIRE RATED WALLS. SEAL WITH A FIRE STOP MATERIAL THAT IS UL LISTED AND

ACCEPTED BY THE AHJ - AUTHORITY HAVING JURISDICTION, INCLUDING THE FIRE DEPARTMENT.

INSTALL THE SEALING MATERIAL PER THE MANUFACTURER'S RECOMMENDATIONS.

28 CORING AS IT RELATES TO THIS PROJECT IS PART OF THE RESPONSIBILITIES.

29 PERFORM ALL WORK IN A CLEAN AND WORKMANLIKE MANNER. EXERCISE CARE TO MINIMIZE ANY

INCONVENIENCE OR DISTURBANCE TO OTHER AREAS OF THE BUILDING WHICH ARE TO REMAIN IN

OPERATION. ISOLATE WORK AREAS BY MEANS OF TEMPORARY PARTITIONS AND / OR TRAPS TO KEEP

DUST AND DIRT WITHIN THE CONSTRUCTION AREA.

30 CLEAN THE JOB SITE DAILY AND REMOVE THE PREMISES ANY DIRT AND DEBRIS CAUSED BY THE

DIVISION 23 - HEATING, VENTILATING AND AIR CONDTIONING

SUMMARY OF WORK

A. THE DRAWINGS INDICATE DIAGRAMMATICALLY THE EXTENT, GENERAL CHARACTER AND LOCATION OF

THE WORK INCLUDED. OFFSETS AND / OR CHANGES IN ELEVATION OF PIPING AND DUCTWORK DUE TO

STRUCTURAL OR OTHER INTERFERENCES SHALL BE PROVIDED WITHOUT EXTRA COST.

SECTION 230593 - TESTING, ADJUSTING AND BALANCING FOR HVAC

A. AIR BALANCING SHALL BE ACCOMPLISHED BY ADJUSTMENT OF ADJUSTABLE FAN SHEAVES. EXISTING

BRANCH DAMPERS ARE TO BE USED FOR ANY REQUIRED TRIM ADJUSTMENT.

B. UPON COMPLETION OF THE INSTALLATION, REPLACE ANY EXISTING PORTION OF THE ASSOCIATED

SYSTEM(S) AFFECTED BY THE RENOVATIONS.

C. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE ALL LABOR AND EQUIPMENT REQUIRED TO BALANCE ALL AIR

SYSTEMS IN ACCORDANCE WITH QUANTITIES SHOWN.

D. BALANCING SHALL BE PERFORMED UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF A PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER AND

REPORT SHALL BE PROVIDED ON AABC TYPE FORMS.

SECTION 230713 - DUCTWORK INSULATION

DESCRIPTION: ALL INSULATION SHALL HAVE A FLAME SPREAD RATING OF 25 OR LESS AND A SMOKE

DEVELOPED RATING OF 50 OR LESS IN ACCORDANCE WITH ASTM E84 AND NFPA 90A.

A. HVAC INSULATION

1. TYPE A 2” GLASS FIBER INSULATION: ANSI / ASTM C547; “K” VALUE OF 0.23 AT 75 DEGREES F;

NON-COMBUSTIBLE. OWENS - CORNING TYPE ASJ WITH SSL-II VAPOR BARRIER JACKET.

2. ALL DUCTWORK SHALL BE INSULATED PER THE INTERNATIONAL ENERGY CONSERVATION CODE (IECC)

5. DUCTWORK IN AN INDIRECTLY OR DIRECTLY CONDITIONED SPACE IS NOT REQUIRED TO HAVE

INSULATION.

A. THE CONTRACTORS SHALL FAMILIARIZE THEMSELVES WITH THE PROJECT PRIOR TO THE BID OPENING, TO

ALLOW THEM TO SUBMIT A COMPLETE BID WITHIN THE SCOPE OF THE DRAWINGS AND SPECIFICATIONS. ANY

QUESTIONS ARISING DURING THE BID PERIOD, IN REGARD TO THE CONTRACTOR'S FUNCTIONS, THE SCOPE

OF THE WORK OR ANY OTHER ISSUE RELATED TO THIS PROJECT SHALL BE BROUGHT UP DURING THE BID

PERIOD WITH THE ENGINEER FOR CLARIFICATION PRIOR TO AWARD OF CONTRACT.

B. THE WORK INDICATED ON THE ELECTRICAL SITE PLAN AND THE POWER RISER DIAGRAM IS THE RESULT OF

INITIAL CONTACT BY THE DESIGN ENGINEER WITH THE LOCAL ELECTRICAL UTILITY COMPANY. ADDITIONAL

WORK MAY BE REQUIRED. THE CONTRACTOR IS RESPONSIBLE TO COORDINATE ALL REQUIREMENTS OF THE

ELECTRICAL SERVICE WITH THE LOCAL ELECTRICAL UTILITY COMPANY AND PROVIDE, PRIMARY AND

SECONDARY TRENCHING, CONDUITS, CONCRETE ENCASEMENT (WHERE APPLICABLE), PULL BOXES,

BACKFILL AND PATCHING. ALL ASSOCIATED WORK REQUIRED FOR INSTALLATION OF THE ELECTRICAL

SERVICE AND PRIMARY SYSTEMS BY THE LOCAL ELECTRICAL UTILITY INCLUDING FIELD COORDINATION AND

ROUTING WITH THE UTILITY COMPANY IS THAT OF THE ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR AND SHALL BE INCLUDED

IN THE CONTRACTOR'S BID WITHOUT EXCEPTION.

C. IT WILL BE THE CONTRACTOR'S OBLIGATION TO INCLUDE, IN THEIR BID, THE COSTS FOR INSTALLING

JUNCTION BOXES, PROVIDING MISCELLANEOUS COVERS, WORK WITH OTHER DISCIPLINES WHERE THE

CONTRACT INVOLVES ELECTRICAL POWER OR CONTROL CONNECTIONS, SWITCHES, ETC. ALL OF THIS WORK

SHALL BE PART OF THIS CONTRACT.

D. LOCATION OF EQUIPMENT AND OTHER DEVICES SHOWN ON THE PLANS ARE APPROXIMATE AND SHALL BE

FIELD VERIFIED.

E. THE CONDUIT RUNS, AS SHOWN ON PLANS, INDICATE APPROXIMATE ROUTING. EXACT LOCATION OF

CONDUIT RUNS SHALL BE AS FIELD CONDITIONS DICTATE.

F. CONTRACTOR SHALL INSTALL PULL AND JUNCTION BOXES WHEREVER REQUIRED BY N.E.C. OR JOB

CONDITIONS. ALL NEW WIRING SHALL BE TAGGED AT ALL PULL BOXES, JUNCTION BOXES, EQUIPMENT BOXES

AND CABINETS WITH APPROVED PLASTIC TAGS. ACTION CRAFT, BRADY OR APPROVED EQUAL.

G. SHOULD CONTRACTOR AT ANY TIME NOTICE THAT THE ACTUAL FIELD CONDITIONS DO NOT CORRESPOND

TO THE INFORMATION GIVEN ON THE DRAWINGS, THEN IT WILL BE THEIR RESPONSIBILITY TO NOTIFY THE

ENGINEER FOR CLARIFICATION, PRIOR TO COMMENCING SUCH WORK.

H. IT SHALL BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE CONTRACTOR TO COORDINATE WITH ALL TRADES FOR THE EXACT

LOCATION OF EQUIPMENT AND APPURTENANCES THAT REQUIRE ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS.

I. REMOVE AND INSTALL CEILING SUPPORTS AND TILES AS REQUIRED FOR THE COMPLETION OF THIS

PROJECT. THIS CONTRACTOR SHALL INCLUDE REPLACEMENT OF CEILING TILES DAMAGED IN THE PROCESS

OF THIS INSTALLATION WITH NEW MATCHING TILES. THE SAME APPLIES TO DAMAGE DONE TO OTHER KINDS

OF CEILINGS.

J. IT SHALL BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE CONTRACTOR TO COORDINATE WITH ALL TRADES FOR THE EXACT

LOCATION OF EQUIPMENT AND APPURTENANCES THAT REQUIRE ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS.

K. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL REPAIR ANY DAMAGE TO WALLS CEILINGS, ETC. IN A PROFESSIONAL MANNER.

SEAL ALL WALL OR CEILING OPENINGS WITH MATCHING MATERIAL. THIS SHALL BE DONE AT NO ADDITIONAL

COST TO THE OWNER.

L. CONTRACTOR SHALL MAKE AS-BUILT DRAWINGS DOCUMENTING ANY AND ALL WIRING AND EQUIPMENT

CONDITIONS AND CHANGES WHILE COMPLETING THIS CONTRACT. PROVIDE UPDATED TYPEWRITTEN

DIRECTORIES FOR ALL PANELS AND LABEL ALL PANELS WITH PLASTIC LAMINATED NAMEPLATES.

M. INSTALL BLANK DEVICE PLATES ON ALL UNUSED JUNCTION BOXES IN FINISHED AREAS.

N. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL REPLACE ALL DAMAGED AND INOPERABLE DEVICES SUCH AS LIGHT SWITCHES,

RECEPTACLES, ETC. AT NO ADDITIONAL COST THE OWNER.

O. REFER TO POWER PLANS FOR DETAILED LAYOUTS OF ELECTRICAL GEAR.

P. AFTER THE CONTRACTOR HAS RECEIVED APPROVED SHOP DRAWINGS FOR THE ELECTRICAL DISTRIBUTION

EQUIPMENT, THEY SHALL SUBMIT SCALED LAYOUTS OF ALL ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT TO THE ENGINEER FOR

APPROVAL TO ENSURE THAT ALL CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS ARE MET. THIS SUBMITTAL SHALL BE

PROVIDED WITH SUFFICIENT TIME SO AS NOT TO INTERFERE WITH THE TIMELY EXECUTION OF THE

ROUGH-IN WORK THAT WILL BE REQUIRED.

Q. WHEREVER REQUIRED, FURNISH AND INSTALL ON WALL OR CEILING FREESTANDING UNISTRUT CHANNELS,

ANGLE IRONS OR ANY OTHER SUPPORT STRUCTURE WITH THREADED ROD HANGERS AS REQUIRED FOR

THE SUPPORT OF ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT OF ANY KIND TO ENSURE PROPER INSTALLATION.

R. ALL NEW WIRING SHALL BE COPPER.

S. ALL HOME RUN CIRCUITING TO PANELS SHALL BE .75" CONDUIT, MINIMUM.

T. CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE TO PROVIDE AND INSTALL TIE HANDLES ON ALL CIRCUIT BREAKERS

SHARING A NEUTRAL CONDUCTOR PER THE NEC.

U. MOUNTING HEIGHTS INDICATED ON THE DRAWINGS ARE APPROXIMATE. THIS CONTRACTOR SHALL BE

RESPONSIBLE FOR COORDINATING WITH OTHER TRADES FOR EXACT HEIGHT REQUIRED. THIS

REQUIREMENT ALSO APPLIES TO THE LOCATION OF WALL BOXES FOR HVAC SENSORS, T-STATS, ETC. ANY

BOTTOM, OR LEFT TO RIGHT AS VIEWED FROM THE FRONT OF THE SWITCHBOARD OR PANEL BOARD. (PHASE

BUSSES SHALL BE PRE-DRILLED AND TAPPED TO ACCOMMODATE ANY COMBINATION OF CIRCUIT BREAKER

UNITS WITHOUT FURTHER MODIFICATION. ALL PANELBOARDS SHALL BE COMPLETE WITH DOORS. UNITS

SHALL BE COMPLETE WITH COMBINATION LATCH AND CYLINDER LOCKS. ALL LOCKS SHALL BE KEYED ALIKE.

ALL BUSSING SHALL BE OF THE "SEQUENCE TYPE". ALL CONNECTIONS SHALL BE BOLTED.

2. CIRCUIT BREAKERS SHALL BE MOLDED CASE TYPE (MINIMUM 10,000 AMP INTERRUPTING CAPACITY,

BOLTED TYPE, FACTORY ASSEMBLED. STAB IN TYPE NOT PERMITTED. PROVIDE BUS BARS FOR THREE

K. LIGHT FIXTURE BALLASTS

1. FLUORESCENT BALLASTS SHALL BE ELECTRONIC TYPE. ALL BALLASTS SUPPLIED SHALL OPTIMIZE THE

PERFORMANCE OF THE SPECIFIC LAMP. BALLAST CASE OPERATING TEMPERATURE SHALL NOT EXCEED 35°

C TEMPERATURE RISE. THE BALLAST SHALL BE CONSTANT WATTAGE ELECTRONIC TYPE WITH INTEGRATED

CONTROL CHIP TECHNOLOGY, CONSTANT WATTAGE AND CONSTANT LIGHT OUTPUT WITH VOLTAGE

FLUCTUATIONS OF ± 20% OF NOMINAL. BALLAST SHALL OPERATE AT HIGH FREQUENCY (OVER 20 KHZ) WITH

L. LIGHT FIXTURE LAMPS

1. T8 LAMPS, MEDIUM BIPIN BASE, CORRELATED COLOR TEMPERATURE OF 3500K WITH A COLOR RENDERING

INDEX (CRI) OF 75. THEY ARE TO OPERATE ON BALLASTS SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED FOR 265 MA., T8 LAMPS.

2. METAL HALIDE LAMPS SHALL BE PHOSPHOR COATED, MOGUL BASE WITH CORRELATED COLOR

TEMPERATURE OF 4000 K. LAMPS SHALL BE FURNISHED FOR PROPER LAMP BURNING POSITION.

3. SAFETY: ALL METAL HALIDE LAMPS SHALL BE FURNISHED WITH A MEANS OF IMMEDIATELY EXTINGUISHING

THE LAMP WHEN THE OUTER LAMP ENVELOPE IS EITHER PENETRATED OR BROKEN.

4. MANUFACTURERS: GENERAL ELECTRIC, SYLVANIA, WESTINGHOUSE, OR AN APPROVED EQUAL.

M. FIRE ALARM SYSTEM

1. THE FIRE ALARM SYSTEM SHALL COMPLY WITH REQUIREMENTS OF NFPA STANDARD NO. 72 FOR

PROTECTED PREMISES SIGNALING SYSTEMS EXCEPT AS MODIFIED AND SUPPLEMENTED BY THIS

SPECIFICATION. THE SYSTEM SHALL BE ELECTRICALLY SUPERVISED AND MONITOR THE INTEGRITY OF ALL

CONDUCTORS.

2. The fire alarm manufacturer shall be of the highest caliber and insist on the highest quality. The system shall be

manufactured by an ISO 9001 certified company APPROVED BY NMSU and meet the requirements of BS EN9001

ANSI/ASQC Q9001-1994.

3. The installing company shall employ NICET (minimum Level II Fire Alarm Technology) technicians on site to guide

the final check-out and to ensure the systems integrity.

4. This section of the specifications includes the furnishing, installation, and connection of the microprocessor

controlled, intelligent reporting fire alarm equipment required to form a complete coordinated system ready for

operation. It shall include, but not be limited to, alarm initiating devices, alarm notification appliances, control panel,

auxiliary control devices, annunciators, and wiring as shown on the drawings and specified herein.

5. The fire alarm system shall comply with requirements of NFPA Standard No. 72 for protected premises signaling

systems except as modified and supplemented by this specification. The system shall be electrically supervised and

monitor the integrity of all conductors. COORDINATE WITH NMSU FOR INTERCONNECTIONS AND MONITORING

REQUIREMENTS.

N. DATA/COMMUNICATIONS

1. TELEPHONE CABLE: Install 4-pair, Category 5E, 24 ga. solid plenum rated cable from each telephone jack to

terminal board and terminate ON PATCH PANELS.

2. Exact locations and arrangement of the telephone/data facilities shall be coordinated with and as recommended

and approved by NMSU. This includes the location and orientation of lights, receptacles, service entrance conduits

and conduit stubs in the equipment room.
