Where is God leading you? As I sit at my desk to write July’s newsletter, it dawned on me that MaKayla will be leaving for Oregon in less than two weeks. Oregon, why Oregon? All the way across the United States? When MaKayla talked with Myra and me about applying to be a Young Life staffer at a summer camp we asked her to only apply for camps close by. We didn’t want her to be that far away. What we didn’t know was that God had other plans for her. MaKayla was placed on a waiting list for the camps that are close by. She was a little disappointed, but we were thinking great, we’ll get to have the summer with her. But God had other plans. When MaKayla called us about Oregon, she asked us with a timid heart. Myra and I realize that God’s plan is always better than the plans we make and told her to enjoy God’s calling. Knowing MaKayla’s love for Jesus is to go where He leads brings to mind the passage in Matthew 10:32-40. While reading this Scripture, God reminded me of all the opportunities He provided for me to be involved in summer missions. How could we deny MaKayla these same opportunities out of our own selfishness? As a dad, saying I’m a little scared would be an understatement. But I know God has amazing opportunities to grow MaKayla over the 27 days she will be there. Knowing this brings me such great excitement for all the things that are unknown to us, but known to Him. We are clinging to 2 Timothy 1:7, there is no need for fear because God’s Spirit is right there to supply the strength as needed to serve Him in any capacity. Therefore, I ask how is God asking you to serve this summer and/or next year? Are you listening to His call? How will you answer? Know that God’s plans and rewards are always better than our own. Serve Him in the capacity He has called you and He will provide you with the strength.
Running the Race, Mark Heb. 12:1-2
It’s July already! Vacation Bible School came and went in the blink of an eye. Now we’re into summer vacations and next will be the beginning of another school year.
The start of our new Sunday School year goes along with the start of the new school year. All children of school age are promoted to the class of their new school grade on the first Sunday in August. So any Preschoolers who are going into First Grade when school starts, will be promoted to Children’s Department; First Grade Sunday School Class. This year, the only child being promoted up is Jude Bartlett. We’ll certainly miss him, but it’s been our pleasure to watch him grow and to be a part of his preschool years.
Older Preschool Class is grouped by children who start Kindergarten this school year and children who will be in Kindergarten next school year. So the first Sunday in August will be also be promotion day for any Middle Preschoolers who’ll start Kindergarten in school year 2018-2019.
One more “promotion” to brag about….Our Miss Kelsey, teacher in Middle Preschool, is moving away to be a 4th Grade Teacher in an elementary school in middle Tennes-see. She’s been one of ours since she was three years old. We’re so very, very proud of all her accomplishments! But it’s a sad day for us to give her up. Even though we’ll miss her greatly, we pray that God will bless her in her new adventure and start of her career.
