VFW POST 5265
"Honoring the Dead by Serving the Living"
Greetings to all our VFW Comrades, Auxiliary and Social members. I have been elected to a second term as your Commander and thank all my Veteran brothers for their vote of confidence. I look forward to continuing the VFW mission by serving our Veterans, our military, and our communities, as well as advocating on behalf of all Veterans.New members, WELCOME! Thank you for considering our VFW Post 5265. Because of you, we are enjoying a spike in attendance at both the Veterans and Auxiliary meetings. Your insight, ideas and suggestions are much appreciated. Our new member orientation meetings are averaging at least ten per month. There are two goals that I have for the Post this coming year, entertainment and Veteran membership. For those of you who attended our last band event, I'm sure you'd agree, a great time was
had by all. We hope to have more such events. I would also like to increase our Veteran membership. I feel we have a lot to offer them, and the Post will benefit from their presence. Please plan on attending and/or helping with our fundraising events, we fund many Veteran causes and support the local community. Our success depends on you!If you have any concerns/suggestions please let me know. I am here to help this Post grow and support everyone associated with it. I cannot do this without input from all.It is my honor and privilege to be your Post Commander, let's make this Post the envy of District 21.
Yours in ComradeshipChuck Becker,
Post Commander
Army Cpl. Earl H. Markle, a Spring Grove man who went missing in the Korean War has been accounted for, according to the DPAA.Earl H. Markle was 17 when he enlisted in the Army in May 1949. He shipped out for Korea Aug. 10, 1950. On Aug. 25, his unit went into action. He was reported missing in action on Nov. 2, 1950, near Unsan, North Korea. His remains could not be recovered, and he was not report-
ed as a prisoner of war. The U.S. Army declared him deceased as of Dec. 31, 1953.Following the summit between President Trump and North Korean dictator Kim Jung-un, North Korea turned over 55 boxes, containing remains of American service members killed during the Korean War, including Markle. The family plans to have Markle buried in the Arlington National Cemetery.

VA and Centers for Medicare and Medic-aid Services join to strengthen safety surveillance for medications issued to Veterans: The VA and CMS recently announced an agreement that greatly improves drug safety monitoring of prescriptions, including opioids. The agreement will give the VA the ability to monitor medical prescriptions issued at the VA through Medicare Part D. By incorporating prescriptions dispensed through Medicare, VA has access to
more accurate information about the medications used by its patients. With the creation of the Medicare Part D benefit, Veterans dually enrolled in VA and Medicare have access to prescrip-tion benefits through both VA and Medi-care. Please contact Christine Smith, VFW Dept of PA Veterans Service Officer at 717-884-1705 for more inforr-mation.
