Thank you for considering our VFW Post 5265. Because of you, we are enjoying a spike in attendance at both the Veterans and Auxiliary meetings. Your insight, ideas and suggestions are much appreciated. Our new member orientation meetings are averaging at least ten per month. There are two goals that I have for the Post this coming year, entertainment and Veteran membership. For those of you who attended our last band event, I'm sure you'd agree, a great time was had by all. We hope to have more such events. I would also like to increase our Veteran membership. I feel we have a lot to offer them, and the Post will benefit from their presence. Please plan on attending and/or helping with our fundraising events, we fund many Veteran causes and support the local community. Our success depends on you! If you have any concerns/suggestions please let me know. I am here to help this Post grow and support everyone associated with it. I cannot do this without input from all. Markle, a Spring Grove man who went missing in the Korean War has been accounted for, according to the DPAA. Earl H. Markle was 17 when he enlisted in the Army in May 1949. He shipped out for Korea Aug. 10, 1950. On Aug. 25, his unit went into action. He was reported missing in action on Nov. 2, 1950, near Unsan, North Korea. His remains could not be recovered, and he was not report- ed as a prisoner of war. The U.S. Army declared him deceased as of Dec. 31, 1953. Following the summit between President Trump and North Korean dictator Kim Jung-un, North Korea turned over 55 boxes, containing remains of American service members killed during the Korean War, including Markle. Greetings to all our VFW Comrades, Auxiliary and Social members. I have been elected to a second term as your Commander and thank all my Veteran brothers for their vote of confidence. I look forward to continuing the VFW mission by serving our Veterans, our military, and our communities, as well as advocating on behalf of all Veterans.New members, WELCOME! Dear Auxiliary Brothers and Sisters,Summer is here and begins our new year. Thank you to my brothers and sisters for electing me as President for another year. I will continue to do my best to serve the Auxiliary and our Veterans.Membership Starting July 1, annual members can pay their 2020 dues. Renew-ing is easy at www.vfwauxiliary.org! Click on member login to access MALTA, pay $20 to renew, print a temporary card and National will mail your official card to you. Chose life membership and don’t worry about paying dues again. Dues notices will be mailed in July.Aux Sandwich and Sub Sales we will sell sandwiches in Aug. and subs Sept., Oct. and Nov. - Reminder to place your orders the first Wednesday and pick up the 2nd Wednesday. Lottery coming soon We are currently waiting for the PA Lottery to deliver and set up our new Lottery machine. Once installed, customers and guests will be able to purchase Pennsyl-vania Lottery scratch-off tickets, play daily numbers games, including Power-Ball and MegaMillions and also play Keno. The machine will also allow customers to validate winning lottery tickets and print a voucher to claim cash awards. We will payout amounts up to $600. VFW Essay Contests Encour-age students going into grades 6 - 12 to participate in the VFW Essay Contests. The theme for both contests this year is “What Makes America Great”. Applications for Patriot’s Pen (6-8th grade) and Voice of Democracy (9-12th grade) are available at the Post. Students have until October 31 to submit their essay to the Post.
