It is my great pleasure to wish you a warm welcome on behalf of theCroatian Judo Federation to the rst ever edition of Judo Festivalin Croatia!

I believe that all those that participated last year have good memories ofJudoFestival, however, this year the location has been changed, from Turkeyto Croatia, to the hearth of Adriatic sea, Poreč.

The Judo Festival is promotion of all judo values and dimensions allgenerations, from kids to veterans.

From the comments of many visitors, we know that Poreč is an interestingtourist destination and that something new can always be discovered. Ihope that you will be able to enjoy historical locations, rich gastronomicoffer or just enjoy Poreč’s ambiance and atmosphere of the two worlds –Central European and Mediterranean. Croatia is hosting many internationalsport events throughout the year and among them, such as IJF Grand Prix inZagreb, European Cup for Seniors in Dubrovnik, European Cup for Cadets inZagreb etc.

Therefore, I believe that Croatian Judo Federation will be able to meet allyour expectations during the competition.

My special thanks goes to all partners, sponsors and to all those who haveworked hard and with great enthusiasm to organize this Judo Festival event.I will also like to express my gratitude to the President of EJU, Mr. SergeySoloveychik, for continuous support and condence of EJU towards ourFederation.

Dear Members of the Judo Community,

In June 2016 the European Judo Union together with the Croatian JudoFederation will host a Judo Festival of unprecedented proportions in theresort city of Poreč.

During the previous two years we have been testing the idea of a JudoFamily Camp in sunny Antalya. We have received a great deal of positivefeedback from among others, parents of young (under school age) judokas, parents who put judogi on themselves and shared with their children

the joy and hard-work of training. In addition, Judokas, the leaders ofEuropean Judo, participants of the OTC in Turkey, were also satised as

they were provided with the opportunity to spend their free time at theseaside and on the tatami with beginners.

In Poreč 2016, apart from the camp for children and their parents and fromthe OTC Going for Gold, the EJU will hold a one week education and trainingcamp for cadet and junior judokas featuring judo stars of international level, and also a veterans European judo championships, participants of which willbe welcome to attend the Festival with their families.

It is my sincere hope that the EJU’s staging of the event we call the JudoFestival will become a ne tradition for clubs and families across Europe.

I would like to encourage people involved in judo, from beginners tomasters, to plan their vacation time, corporate team building and familyweekends for the end of June 2016 and to spend it in the picturesqueseaside of Poreč, as hopefully the time spent with the family and judowill become one of the best memories and accomplishments for everyparticipant of the Festival.

Judo training will be undertaken as a fun activityalongside other judo components. Parents will act aspartners and as personal coaches.

It is desirable that parents will be on the tatamiwearing judogi (whilst we appreciate that this is notalways possible, we see it as desirable and we shouldaspire to it).

    Judo Training Camp U15

OTC17-23 June 2016The EJU Project “OTC. Going for Gold”was launched in 2010. The main target ofthe project was to help the best Europeanathletes in their preparations toward theLondon Olympic Games.

Within these two years prior to the Olympics, around 273 judokas from 37 European judofederations received vital support from theEJU at 16 Olympic training camps.

The successful performance of Europeanathletes in London has encouraged theEJU Executive Committee to continue theprogramme during the next Olympic cycle andto expand it to promising junior judoka — to

include medallists from the European andworld championships of their age group.

We believe that this programme will besuccessful and again lead to Europeanathletes becoming the strongest at theOlympic Games in Rio.

The Croatian Judo Federation and Poreč Cityhave provided the an excellent venue for thisproject!

a thousand-year historyPoreč offers something for every taste – sports courts, restaurants, clubs, beautifulscenery and plentiful entertainment options for children. You’ll nd this and so muchmore in the hotels, camps and apartments of Laguna Poreč

A true gem of the Mediterranean, Poreč preserved the charm of a small coastal town, but has all thefeatures and amenities of a tourist destination that will make your holiday interesting and pleasant. Youwill discover concerts of classical music and jazz, folklore festivals and street art, museums and galleries as

well as countless shops and restaurants. During the tumultuous history of Poreč, the inuence of differentnations and cultures interweaved in this area – Histri, Romans, Ostrogoths, Franks, Slavic peoples, Venetians,Austrians… The precious cultural heritage can be noticed at every turn.

By taking a walk through Poreč you’ll be passing through the same streets as the old Romans a longtime ago. It was almost 2000 years ago when Poreč obtained the status of a city of the Roman Empire.Ever since the 3rd century it has been a diocese, and the town had self-government since as early as

the 12th century. During the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, in 1861 it was pronounced the seat of theIstrian parliament. Remains of the Roman sanctuary with temples, medieval fortications, Romanesque,Gothic and Baroque palaces are well worth a visit. The Euphrasian Basilica built in the 6th century, withfamous mosaics, which is protected by UNESCO holds a special place among them. Check for yourselfwhy the Roman patricians built their luxurious villas and celebrated the beauty of life precisely in thePoreč area.

However, Poreč is much more than its rich history and cultural heritage. Today, Poreč and itssurroundings are a tourist mecca and a perfect holiday destination, wherever you may stay – at a nicehotel, pleasant camping or any of the numerous comfortable apartments.

Poreč offers something for every taste – sports facilities, restaurants, night clubs, spectacularlandscapes and plenty of amenities for children. You’ll nd all this, and much more, in hotels, campsites, villas and apartments of Laguna Poreč. Have a dream holiday in Poreč, get to know Istria, fall in love with Croatia.
