Judiciary of Guam Launches Justice Corps Program

(September 4, 2014 Hagta, GU) The Judiciary of Guam has received a notice of pre-award for an AmeriCorps Grant Program slated to begin October 1, 2014. The AmeriCorps
Serve Guam Justice Corps Project is a unique learning and career opportunity for AmeriCorps
Members to gain a greater understanding of the justice system. Justice Corps members will
assist court clients, patrons and self-represented litigants as they navigate the court system,
enhancing equal access to justice and services.
The Judiciary of Guam is looking for 20 part-time members to join our Justice Corps team.
Applicants must be at least 17 years of age and a graduating high school senior or a college
student, a U.S. citizen, have reliable transportation, and willing to work a flexible schedule. Job
details include but are not limited to:
900 hours per year (17 hours per week) from October 1, 2014 through September 30, 2015
Compensation: monthly stipend of $504
Annual Education Award: $2,822 which can be used towards post-secondary educational institutions, including technical schools and GI-Bill approved educational programs, as well as to
repay qualified student loans
Certain members can transfer their education awards to their children or grandchildren under specific conditions.
Drug testing is required
5-Part Background Check is required, along with police and court clearances
Interested candidates may download the AmeriCorps Recruitment Form from our website at
http://www.guamcourts.org/, Judicial Information, Job Announcements. AmeriCorps members
may earn up to two full-time education awards and have 7 years from the date they earned each
award to use it.
The implementation of this project is pending grant approval and subject to availability of funds.
Funding for the AmeriCorps Serve Guam! Justice Corps program will be made available through
the Serve Guam Commission.
