Ride On Flex: On Demand Service Comes to Ride On!

The Montgomery County Department of Transportation is pleased to introduce Ride On Flex, the county’s new on demand transit service to help you get around in defined Rockville and Glenmont/Wheaton zones. If your trip starts and ends within a single zone, Flex is a convenient new option for you. The service begins on June 26, 2019 and will run for one year as a pilot program. No fixed stops, no fixed schedules—Flex comes when you book a ride using a mobile app. The 11-passenger buses in this brand-new fleet are wheelchair accessible, offer free Wi-Fi and provide corner to corner ser-vice—but you must book your ride to board. Riding the Flex is easy! Just download the Ride On Flex app to your smartphone; select your pickup and drop

off locations within the zone; and go to your pickup loca-tion—a corner near you. Standard Ride On fare policy applies. Be sure to load cash or fare on your SmarTrip® card before boarding. For details on the Rockville and Glenmont/Wheaton service areas and hours of operation, visit RideOnFlex.com.

The 2019 Jubilee Gala Honoring Tim Wiens cont. was awarded the Betty Mae Kramer Award for Community Service for her decade as

President of the Jubilee Foundation Board. The evening continued with auctioneers

Craig Rice and former Redskins quarterback, Joe Theismann, auctioning off items to

benefit Jubilee. After raising $12,200 by the auction items alone, DARCARS’ Presi-

dent and CEO John Darvish took the stage with longtime friend Joe Theismann,

along with Jubilee individuals Elaine Carney and Curtis Cooper. Together they hon-

ored their friend and former veteran Jubilee individual, Holly Amsterdam, who

passed away earlier this year. John reminisced about how Holly’s close friends un-

derstandably didn’t believe she was friends with Joe Theismann after she said she

had his cell phone number. It wasn’t until she called him in the middle of a Redskins

game and Joe answered that the legitimacy of their friendship rang true. Together,

Joe and John encouraged attendees to donate to Jubilee and their cause that assisted

individuals like Holly. The evening continued with Tim Wiens’ wife Mary Jo and

their two sons, Jacob and Jonathan providing a bit of comedic relief as they roasted Tim on various family moments.

Ending the evening, Tim Wiens gave a tearful final speech on looking forward to his new life in retirement, but that

he will always love the Jubilee family that he created over his 40 years. We would like to thank everyone who came

to celebrate the legacy of Tim Wiens and helping us surpass our goal of $300,000 for Jubilee.

Team Administration June Update - Meet our Transportation Coordinator

What does the Transportation Coordinator do for Jubilee? A major part of Ricardo’s job is conducting the quarterly vehicle inspections for the Ju-bilee house vehicles. During the inspection, he will check to see if your vehicle is up-to-date for maintenance, if it is clean, if you have all of the emergency equipment that was provided, and if you have all of the necessary documents in the vehicle (mileage logs, accident procedure document, WEX card, and current registration and insurance cards). Ricardo will also grab any leftover gas receipts from the vehicle (but house staff should remember to bring in their gas receipts once a month when the mileage logs are due!). Ricardo will also check tire pressure, oil, and fluid levels. Ricardo does not do oil chang-es, but in the event he finds an extremely low oil level during the inspection, he will add enough oil so that you can get the shop safely. He will email your house email if he no-tices this or any other situation that needs attention.

How do I get in contact with the Transportation Coordinator?

Ricardo is available weekdays during normal business hours and is available on the weekends for emergencies only. The best way to reach Ricardo is to text 301-560-7960. If you haven’t gotten a text back after 30 minutes, or for urgent matters, you can call his extension at 301-949-8628 ext. 121. You can reach him by emailing [email protected], (and please cc [email protected] and [email protected] on any transportation related emails). Ricardo works part-time for Jubilee, so Julia or Melissa may need to respond to you if Ricardo is off-duty. When you text/call/email Ricardo, we ask that you provide him with a full description of the issue or situation, so that he is better able to assist you.

What things should I contact Ricardo for?

If you have any questions about potential vehicle issues, please feel free to text or email Ricardo, and he can advise you. You should also email Ricardo with any type of follow-up information in the event your Jubilee vehicle needed to be towed or was involved in an accident. The more details you are able to provide, the better! For vehicle emergencies, you should call Julia or Melissa if Ricardo is unavailable.

Please note that Ricardo is not responsible for scheduling maintenance appointments or taking any of the Jubilee vehi-cles to any type of vehicle shop. If your vehicle is scheduled for a maintenance appointment, you should coordinate transportation to and from the shop with other staff you work with and your Program Manager. Some reminders about taking care of a Jubilee vehicle:

House staff are responsible for making sure that the house vehicles are taken in for regularly scheduled maintenance appointments, so be sure to check the stickers in the windshields to know when to schedule these. Our shop has re-ported to us that several vehicles have been coming in for appointments with almost zero oil, which we would like to avoid. It’s also very helpful if house staff are able to check on the fluid levels on their own, such as oil, coolant, and washer fluid.

Gas receipts should be turned in monthly in provided envelopes. If you need a replacement envelope contact Melis-sa. Please keep your gas receipts neat and organize the receipts by date.

During recent inspections, we’ve noticed that interior cleanliness has been an issue. Staff are responsible for keep-ing the vehicle clean, but in the event you need some extra help, you can take the vehicle to: Touchless Car Wash at 16185 Shady Grove Rd., Gaithersburg, MD 20877. Touchless accepts the WEX cards for payment. Please discuss with your Program Manager first for how often you should be taking your car in for cleaning.

Transportation News

The Administration Team is preparing to purchase two newer vehicles and replace two of our oldest vehicles during the summer. We plan to sell the two older vehicles, so stay tuned for an announcement on the sale date! The Administra-tion Team also hopes to host an agency-wide meeting later in the year when Ricardo can teach everyone how to check their Jubilee vehicle for fluid levels and potential issues. In the meantime, please feel free to reach out to Ricardo for guidance.
