Did You Know… Dracula's Castle Is Now on the Market for a Rumored $80 Million

Dracula's home looks

creepy when surrounded by ominous clouds and fog, but the castle is actually quite lovely in real life. The 12th century fortress is more accurately known as Bran Castle.

Ever since Bram Stoker published Dracula, Bran Castle has become a popular tourist destination, with bookworms and vampire buffs flocking to visit Count Dracula's fictional humble abode.

Throughout history, Saxons, Hungarians, Teutonic knights, and Vlad the Impaler have lived inside the castle. Later, it became the property of Romania's royal family, was seized by the government in 1958, and eventually fell into the hands of the surviving royal heirs who own the castle today.

Although moving into Dracula's old home seems kind of extravagant, the place does have some epic views of the surrounding greenery.

Now that your grill is all clean…. ( See article on front page) ..it’s time for the reward!

Ingredients

1/2 cup olive oil

1/3 cup soy sauce

4 scallions, washed and cut in 1/2

2 large cloves garlic

1/4 cup lime juice

1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes

1/2 teaspoon ground cumin

3 tablespoons dark brown sugar or Mexican brown sugar

2 pounds inside skirt steak, cut into 3 equal pieces

Special equipment: blow dryer Directions Heat charcoal, preferably natural chunk, un-til grey ash appears. In a blender, put in oil, soy sauce, scallions, garlic, lime juice, red pepper, cumin, and sugar and puree. In a large heavy duty, zip top bag, put pieces of

skirt steak and pour in marinade. Seal bag, removing as much air as possible. Allow steak to marinate for 1 hour in refrigerator. Remove steak from bag and pat dry with paper towels. Using a blow dryer, blow char-coal clean of ash. Once clean of ash lay steaks directly onto hot coals for 1 minute per side. When finished cooking, place meat in double thickness of aluminum foil, wrap, and allow to sit for 15 minutes. Remove meat from foil, reserving foil and juices. Slice thinly across the grain of the meat. Return to foil pouch and toss with juice. Serve with grilled peppers and onions, if desired.

FRAUD HAPPENS: PROTECT YOURSELF The number of notified credit-breach vic-tims who later endured fraud increased 340 percent from 2010 to 2012; up to 110 million people were affected by last year's Target breach alone. No one can relax: The FBI has warned that we can expect more cyber attacks in the coming months. Victim or not, take these steps now to keep your money safe.

DON'T SHOP WITH YOUR DEBIT CARD Federal law caps your liability for fraudulent credit card charges at $50. Your liability with debit cards is also $50 but only if you re-port the charge within 2 business days. After that it's $500. If you wait longer than 60 days after the statement was sent you could lose all the money stolen from your account and it can take months for a breach to come to light.

SIGN FOR YOUR TRANSACTIONS If you use a debit card, your money may be safer if you sign for your purchase rather than enter your PIN. Visa and MasterCard offer "Zero liability" policies on debit transactions for customers who go this route.

UNLINK YOUR ACCOUNTS Do you have a savings account linked to your debit card? That money will be at risk too, if your card and PIN are compromised.

CHECK YOUR CREDIT CARD AND BANK STATE-MENTS ONLINE Aim for three times per billing cycle, says Linda Sherry, director of national priorities at the advo-cacy group Consumer Action, to avoid missing your window to report a fraudulent charge. If your card has been compro-mised, having a new card issued with a new PIN is usually sufficient, says Eva Velasquez, president and CEO of the Identity Theft Resource Center.

CHANGE YOUR PIN ANNUALLY Switching it is a best practice even if your card hasn't been compromised.

MONITOR (OR FREEZE) YOUR CREDIT REPORT You're entitled to three free reports a year order one every

four months from the AnnualCredit-Report.com. Some companies that have experienced breaches like Target offer a year of free credit monitoring. Take it.

To be proactive, or if you know your Social Security number has been stolen Velasquez recommends a "security freeze," which takes your credit files out of circulation so no lender can access

your report to open a line of credit.-Laura Sinberg

WHY YOUR CREDIT MATTERS WHEN YOU RETIRE

THE IMPORTANCE of having good credit goes far be-yond qualifying for cards with high limits. Your score can affect just about every aspect of your life even after you retire says T. Rowe Price senior financial planner Judith Ward

IT'S A SAFETY NET you don't want to take on debt in retirement, but emergency bills may make it necessary. Your debt will be cheaper in the long run if your credit score is high (because you'll have access to lower rates).

YOU CAN REINVENT MORE EASILY if you dreamed of starting a side business, going back to school or doing any-thing else that might require a loan, a good credit score will ensure the most favorable rates.

TRAVEL PERKS WILL BE CHEAPER retirees do a lot of travelling. With good credit, you'll pay less for access to the best reward credit cards and be able to rack up airline miles and other travel bonuses offered by credit card compa-nies

REFINANCING WILL BE AN OPTION About half of people in their late fifties and early sixties still carry a mort-gage according to the Federal Reserve Survey of consumer Finances. With a good credit score, you can refinance and cut your payments significantly if rates go lower.

BONUS RECIPE: PESTO CRUSTINI Ingredients 1/2 loaf of baguette 2 Tbsp. olive oil 12 cherry or grape cherry or grape tomatoes , halved (about 1 cup)

12 bocconcini (small mozzarella balls), halved 1/4 tsp. kosher kosher salt 4 grinds freshly ground black pepper 1/2 cup pesto (try to find freshly made in the cheese section of the store)

Directions

Heat the oven to 375. Slice the baguette into 1/2-inch-thick slices. Place on a baking sheet and brush with 1 tablespoon of the oil. Bake until golden and crisp, 10 to 12 minutes. Once the bread is toasted, smear a bit of pesto onto each crostini. Top each piece with one half each of the tomato and bocconcini. Drizzle each with some of the remaining table-spoon of oil and season with the salt & pepper. Pop back in the oven for 1 minute until heated through.

WIN A REAL ESTATE BIDDING WAR

Strategies to win a bidding war to buy the home you want... Winning a real estate bidding war can be a matter of luck, a little bit like gambling. Employ winning strategies but don't get so caught up in the drama of bidding that you go over the maximum price that you can afford to pay. A good gambler knows when to fold and walk away. Do your research and be aware of market values. This will help you to make an educated guess as to what your competitors might be bidding. Then you can bid a little more and this will give your bid an edge over the others.

Have a strong and savvy real estate agent

The real estate agent you choose to represent you should know the market and how to employ winning strategies to help you get the house you want at a price you can afford. Your agent should be assertive but not obnoxiously aggressive, which will put off the seller and not win you the bid. A good agent should be professional and polite and a good communicator. An experienced agent will know the market and help with the bidding, while making sure that you do not overpay. A seasoned agent will have helped other clients make winning bids and will show you how to write a clear offer with good terms. He or she will act quickly to present your bid to the seller and the listing agent.

Be prepared to waive some contingencies

The aspiring buyer who wins a real estate bidding war is not always the one who offers the most money. Making a reasonable offer within the ballpark of the market value of the property is certainly important, but there are intangibles that can count for more. Having credit approval in advance makes your offer look reliable. In addition, you can agree to be flexible about certain contingencies. For example, you can

agree not to have the sale dependent on selling your own house first. However, you'd have to be able to carrying two mortgages at the same time. The risk with this is that your home may not sell fast. You can also offer to close at a time convenient to the seller or offer to pay all closing costs. A seller might find these strategies extremely attractive.

Write a personal letter to the seller

Other strategies include writing a heartfelt personal letter to the sellers telling them how much you like and appreciate their home and want to buy it and live in it with your family; you might even include a photo. This personalizes the trans-action and sometimes succeeds in winning the bidding war.

Agree in advance to outbid other offers

A final winning strategy, if you really have your heart set on having this particular house, is to agree in advance to outbid any other offer the seller receives. You can stipulate, for example, that you are prepared to add an extra $1,000 over any other offer. Of course, there should be an upper limit on what you are prepared to pay. This can prove to be an ingenious way for you to win the bidding war.

Roy Hunter, a contractor and environmentalist, started Second Use, a local company, after becoming frustrated with the amount of materials he saw getting thrown away on construction

sites. He pooled finances with a few family members and leased an empty 2-acre field in Woodinville, Washington, as the site of the first store. The first inventory consisted of salvaged lumber and beams from the demolition of a Fred Meyer store in north Seattle.

Since 1994, Second Use has helped contractors and homeowners recover reusable building materials from their remodeling and demolition projects. And, through their retail outlet, customers have in turn helped to find

new homes for the material. This process provides both a more sustainable alternative to buying new and a mechanism for passing on the stories that inhabit the homes and businesses throughout the Puget Sound region.

History of Transforming Lives Little Bit was founded in 1976 by a woman named Margaret Dunlap. Margaret had Multiple Sclerosis and found that being on the back of a horse slowed the ad-vance of her disease. From

our humble beginnings of one horse and five riders, we have grown to be one of the largest nationally accredited, industry-leading PATH International centers and one of the largest full-time therapeutic horsemanship programs in the United States. We offer Adaptive Riding and Hippotherapy, and serve 230 riders and patients each week with 22 horses and the help of more than 350 volunteers.

Making Strides Through Therapeutic Horsemanship

At Little Bit our mission is to improve the bodies, minds, and spirits of children and adults with disabilities through equine-assisted therapy and activities, and to be an inspira-tion and educational resource to the therapeutic riding pro-fession, both regionally and nationally.

Our flagship programs—Adaptive Riding and Hippothera-py—both utilize the unique qualities of the horse to affect positive change in the lives of children and adults with disa-bilities.

These programs provide life-changing physical benefits in-cluding strengthening muscles, preventing bone weakness and joint dislocation, improving balance, and enhancing hand/eye coordination. These benefits improve a rider’s overall health, which, in turn, can increase life expectancy.

They also ripple into other aspects of daily living: promoting confidence and independence, improving communication skills and peer interaction, enhancing concentration and memory, stimulating problem-solving, and providing achievable goals.

WINDERMERE BELLEVUE COMMONS TO VOLUNTEER AT LITTLE BIT THERAPUTIC RIDING CENTER

LITTLE BIT THERAPUTIC RIDING CENTER

Every year since 1984, Windermere associates have dedicated a day of work to complete

neighborhood im-provement projects as

part of Windermere's Community Service Day.

Creating vibrant communities is one of the things that inspire all of us at Windermere to be involved in Community Service Day as it gives us an opportunity to give back to the commu-nities where we live and work.

After all, real estate is rooted in our communities. And an in-vestment in our neighborhoods gives us all a better place to call home.

On Friday, June 20th Windermere Bellevue Commons will volunteer at the Little Bit Therapeutic Riding Center. We do all sorts of jobs, like repainting fences, small building pro-jects, cleaning inside & out, weeding and whatever else will help the won-derful people there focus on the real purpose of the center.

If you would like to learn more about Little Bit or volunteer your time to help out, visit their website at: www.littlebit.org

Economists predict that new college graduates should have an easier time finding jobs in 2014 than they have in the last few years as more companies are looking to hire. Just because it's easier doesn't mean it's easy, but we're here to help. Our list of the Top 10 Best Cities for New College Grads ranks cities where jobs are available and where you'd want to live during all those non-working hours.

To determine the best cities for recent college graduates, we analyzed

factors such as the number of 25 to 34 year olds living in each city, the availability of rental properties, unemployment rates, educational at-tainment levels, use of public transportation and the types of jobs these places offer. We also sought out cities that cater to a younger demo-graphic by offering lots of recreational activities, hot nightlife and a hip vibe. What we found were places where new college graduates are likely to find jobs they'd actually want, homes they can afford and a social scene that al-lows them to more easily make new friends, fit in and engage with the community.

TOP 10 BEST CITIES FOR NEW COLLEGE GRADS 2014 BELLEVUE RANKS NUMBER TWO!

#2 Bellevue! From the shores of Lake Wash-ington to the top of Mount Rainier, residents of Bellevue, WA, have access to amazing outdoor adventures throughout the year. Bellevue's economy is as lush as the deep green forests that surround the city, giving recent grads fertile ground to launch a new career. Companies like REI, Eddie Bauer and Outdoor Research were kick-started in Bellevue, which has a growing

tech and communications industry.

Not only is the economy in Bellevue diverse, so are the people. Roughly a third of all residents here are foreign born, and more than a quarter of the population are Asian. Bellevue offers a high number of well-paying jobs that attract college grads. More than 61 % of Bellevue residents between the ages of 25 and 34 hold bachelor's degrees or higher. In addition, around 45 % of all homes in Bellevue are rental

properties, and more than 80 % of residents find housing costs highly affordable.

Newcomers quickly discover the city perfectly balances urban sophistication with rugged natural beauty. More than 100 parks, including the 20-acre Bellevue Downtown Park, allow residents to exercise, unwind or just relax outdoors. A growing network of

paths and bike lanes give residents an alternative to commuting by car. Nearby camping areas, blueberry farms and wineries make great weekend getaways. In the shadows of high-rises in downtown Bellevue lie an assortment of entertainment venues that include restaurants, bars, concert venues and nightclubs. With Seattle being just across the lake, Bellevue residents often venture over to the “big city” to catch major sporting events and superstar concerts.
