Day 1, Wednesday March 11 (home to Vancouver Airport)This afternoon, following our at-home-pickup-service, we travel to Richmond for an overnight stay at the Pacific Gateway Hotel. Meals D

Day 2, Thursday March 12 (fly to Honolulu, Island of Oahu, Hawaii) This morning we transfer to the Vancouver Airport for our non-stop flight with WestJet to Honolulu, on the island of Oahu. Our Honolulu home for three nights is the Hyatt Regency Waikiki Resort, on popular Kalakaua Avenue directly across from the famous Waikiki Beach!

Day 3, Friday March 13 (Oahu, Pearl Harbor & city tour)This morning, visiting the Pearl Harbor National Memorial, we learn about the 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor, one of the most pivotal moments in US history. Our morning continues with a city tour of Honolulu highlighting the historic Iolani Palace, the impressive state capital building, King Kamehameha’s statue, and the National Cemetery of the Pacific, known as the Punchbowl. Returning to Waikiki, the remainder of the afternoon is at leisure. Meals BD

Day 4, Saturday March 14 (Oahu, visit the North Shore)Departing bustling Waikiki, we enjoy the serenity of pineapple fields in Oahu’s central plateau, and continue to the famous North Shore, where surfers gather to hit the wild surf of Waimea Bay, Sunset Beach, and Ehukai Beach, home of the Banzai Pipeline. In the town of Haleiwa, the north shore’s social and artistic hub, we stop for lunch and browsing among its sugar plantation-era buildings. Returning to Waikiki, the rest of the afternoon and evening are at leisure. Meals B

Day 5, Sunday March 15 (depart Oahu, fly to Kauai)Today begins with a half-hour flight to Kauai, the Garden Isle, which offers some of the state’s most stunning scenery. Upon arrival our motorcoach climbs to the 3400-foot level of Waimea Canyon State Park. Here at the Grand Canyon of the Pacific, we behold a panoramic view of the 10-mile series of deep, brilliantly hued gorges, cut into the Kokee plateau. Visiting Hawaii’s largest coffee estate, we learn of the coffee bean’s journey from tree to cup, and sample the finished product. This afternoon we check-in for a three-night stay at the oceanfront Kauai Marriott Resort, which overlooks Kalapaki Beach on Nawiliwili Bay. Meals BD

Day 6, Monday March 16 (Kauai, exploring the scenic North Shore)Departing this morning from our east shore hotel, we travel Kauai’s verdant north shore with views of white sand beaches, lush jungles, tropical flowers, and waterfalls cascading down the mountainsides. You may recall scenes from Hollywood Movies, as we make stops at picturesque Hanamaulu Bay, Lydgate Beach, Opaekaa Falls, and Kilauea Lighthouse. Reaching the island’s northern tip, we pause for lunch in the charming town of Hanalei, before returning to our hotel for an evening at leisure. Meals BLD

Day 7, Tuesday March 17 (Kauai, Wailua River Cruise)This morning, boarding an open-air boat we cruise along the tranquil Wailua River, to the famous Fern Grotto, where a short guided walk brings us to an enormous cave naturally laden with thousands of Maidenhair ferns. Hula dancers demonstrate their ancient art form as our boat returns to the dock. This afternoon is at leisure to enjoy our beautiful resort. Meals B

Day 8, Wednesday March 18 (depart Kauai, fly to Maui)Today we fly from Kauai to its beautiful neighbour island of Maui, the Valley Isle. Upon arrival we visit Maui’s lush Iao Valley State Park, dominated by an iconic 1200-foot volcanic pillar - the Iao Needle. Stopping for lunch in the historic whaling village of Lahaina, we stroll among bustling shops and restaurants, perched on the edge of the blue Pacific. From Lahaina we travel through sugarcane fields to the resort area of Kaanapali, to begin a relaxing three-night stay at our deluxe beachfront hotel, the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort. Meals B

Day 9, Thursday March 19 (visit Maui’s Tropical Plantation)This morning we visit Hawaii’s agricultural showcase, the Maui Tropical Plantation. Surrounded by farmland and a backdrop of the West Maui Mountains, we’ll board the Tropical Express tour tram to learn about Hawaii’s major crops: sugar, pineapple, banana, coffee, papaya, and guava. We’ll enjoy time to visit the plantation’s little coffee house and ice cream shop, and browse the Plantation Store, before returning to our Kaanapali Beach hotel for an afternoon and evening at leisure. Meals B

Day 10, Friday March 20 (Maui, a day at leisure) Today is at leisure to relax and enjoy the facilities of our oceanfront hotel, or perhaps visit nearby Whaler’s Village, a beachside mall with over 70 shops and restaurants. Tonight we complete our vacation with a traditional Polynesian luau; tropical drinks, dinner, and a performance of authentic songs and dances that have influenced Hawaiian life and customs for centuries. Day 1, Saturday May 16 (depart home, board overnight flight)Following our at-home-pickup-service, we transfer to the Vancouver Airport and depart this afternoon aboard Air Canada’s overnight flight, non-stop to Tokyo, Japan.

Day 2, Sunday May 17 (flight arrives Tokyo, transfer to hotel)Arriving in Tokyo this afternoon, we begin a four-night stay at the Grand Nikko Tokyo Daiba. This evening is at leisure.

Day 3, Monday May 18 (Tokyo, introductory tour, leisure time)Following breakfast at our hotel, we enjoy an introductory walking tour followed by an afternoon at leisure, before this evening’s welcome dinner. Meals BD

Day 4, Tuesday May 19 (Tokyo touring)Feel the excitement start to build as you pass by the grounds of the Imperial Palace and see the Niju Bridge and Sakurada Gate, the well-known symbols of the Imperial Palace. Walk through Ginza, one of the most elegant and luxurious streets in the world, where modern landscape meets rich history. Enjoy shopping at some of the most renowned department stores in Japan. Later, amid a lush forest outside of Tokyo, visit the Meiji Shrine, dedicated to Emperor Meiji and his wife, Empress Shoken. This evening is at leisure. Meals B

Day 5, Wednesday May 20 (Tokyo touring)Begin the day exploring Asakusa, Tokyo’s oldest Geisha district. Visit the famous Buddhist temple, Senso-ji, the colourful temple famous for the red chochin (lantern) hanging at the entrance gate. Experience the longstanding tradition of the Japanese tea ceremony, dating back to the 15th century. During your free time, explore the Nakamise Shopping Arcade and feel the energy of the oldest shopping street in Japan. Then, continue to Edo Tokyo Museum to learn about the fascinating history and culture of Tokyo. The museum displays life-size and scale model replicas of towns and buildings of old Tokyo. Meals B

Day 6, Thursday May 21 (Tokyo to Hakone) Today we journey to the lakeside resort of Hakone, renowned for its hot springs. In the shadow of Mt. Fuji (UNESCO), this scenic town hugs the shorelines of Lake Ashi. We stop at Owakudani, located in an active volcanic zone. The Owakudani crater was created some 3,000 years ago, when Mt. Hakone erupted. We board the Hakone Ropeway, an aerial cable car descending from Owakudani for a breathtaking view (weather permitting) of Mt. Fuji. Next, cruising the deep-blue waters of Lake Ashi, we’ll see epic views of the local mountains. Stopping in the charming town of Moto-Hakone, we overnight at Odakyu Hotel de Yama. Meals BD

Day 7, Friday May 22 (Hakone – Matsumoto – Takayama)Today begins at Matsumoto Castle, known as the Crow Castle because of its striking black exterior. Following lunch at a Soba noodle shop, we step back in time in the rural Edo-period town of Takayama, nestled in the Japanese Alps. Well known to the locals for its connection to sake, this is the perfect place to gather for a visit to one of Japan’s 200-year-old sake breweries. After checking-in for two nights at the Takayama Green Hotel, we experience a Japanese epicurean treat – traditional rice wine paired with a special Hida beef dinner. Meals BLD

Day 8, Saturday May 23 (Takayama touring)The ancient cultures of Takayama come alive this morning in the town’s historic district. Take a walk through the past and glimpse the 19th-century Jinya government building. Stroll through the morning market located along the Miyagawa River, a 600-year-old open-air market with locally grown and produced products. Circuit the winding streets, where the town’s traditional charms are preserved in the inns and houses. This afternoon is at leisure to further explore Takayama. Meals B

Day 9, Sunday May 24 (Takayama – Shirakawa-go – Kanazawa)Today, embrace the unique charms of Shirakawa-go (UNESCO). Hidden away in the mountain, this harmonious village is famous for its gassho-zukuri-style houses – thatched-rooftops designed to resemble two hands joined in prayer. Travel to Kanazawa, the origin of gold leaf making since the 16th century. Visit the Samurai district where we will enter the former home of the Nomuras, a wealthy samurai family who served the ruling Maeda family. Then, travel to the Geisha quarters of Kanazawa, the Higashi Tea district. Our home tonight for two nights is the ANA Crowne Plaza Kanazawa. Meals BD

Day 10, Monday May 25 (Kanazawa touring)More than 25 acres of absolute beauty await us today at Kenrokuen – Garden of Six Qualities. From Japan’s most stunning garden, dive into the ancient craft of gold leaf making during a hands-on lesson in decorating your own lacquer box at Kanazawa Katani. Following a visit to the Omicho fish market, this afternoon is a leisure to explore on our own. Meals B

Day 11, Tuesday May 26 (Kanazawa to Kyoto)Kyoto awaits! The former Imperial capital of Japan is now one of the nation’s top cosmopolitan cities, but connection with its past is strong; you won’t need to look far to see one of its 2,000 temples and shrines. Arriving in Kyoto for lunch, we participate in a sushi making class – given by a professional sushi chef – and master the art of sushi making. This afternoon, visit Kinkakuji (UNESCO), the Golden Pavilion, a Zen temple with its top two floors completely covered in gold leaf. We begin a five-night stay at the Kyoto Tokyu Hotel. This evening is at leisure. Meals BL

Day 12, Wednesday May 27 (Kyoto, day trip by Bullet Train to Hiroshima)All aboard the Shinkansen bullet train to Hiroshima. Upon arrival, we board a ferry to Miyajima Island, or Shrine Island (UNESCO), where the iconic torii gate and the Itsukushima Shrine appear to float on water. Afterward, we head into Hiroshima city to visit the Peace Memorial Park, pause to see the ruined Atomic Dome (UNESCO), and reflect at the Peace Memorial Museum. Following free time for dinner, we depart Hiroshima by the Shinkansen bullet train and return to Kyoto. Meals B

Day 13, Thursday May 28 (Kyoto touring)This morning, we tour Fushimi Inari Taisha, the most revered shrine of Inari. Follow the spectacular rows of orange torii (made famous in the movie Memoirs of a Geisha) that weave through the forest, leading you to the inner shrine. Move on to the home of the first Shogun, Nijo Castle (UNESCO), and see intricate woodcarvings, wall paintings, and the Ninomaru Garden, designed by Kobori Enshu, a landscape architect and tea master. Next, visit Marumasu Nishumuraya for a lesson in the art of stencilling at a traditional Kyoto townhouse. Meals B

Day 14, Friday May 29 (Kyoto, visit Osaka Expo’70 Park)Today on the outskirts of nearby Osaka, we visit the Expo’70 Commemorative Park built on the site of the 1970 Japan World Exposition. After viewing the park’s famous 65-meter high symbol, the Tower of the Sun, we’ll visit the Expo Pavilion, and enjoy relaxing strolls through the spacious Natural & Cultural Gardens and the beautifully landscaped Japanese Garden. Returning to Kyoto, we’ll have some leisure time at our hotel, before tonight’s immersion in Japanese culture - a Kaiseki dinner and Geisha show. Meals BD

Activity LevelTo truly experience the program and destination, you need to be able to participate in physical activities such as longer walking tours, walking over uneven terrain, climbing stairs and periods of standing. Day 2, Sunday August 16 (flight arrives Glasgow)Arriving in Glasgow this afternoon, we begin a two-night stay near the city centre at the Hilton Glasgow. This afternoon and evening are at leisure Day 3, Monday August 17 (Glasgow, city tour)Following a leisurely breakfast we enjoy an introductory city tour, viewing landmarks of Glasgow including George Square, Glasgow Cathedral, and the Buchanan Street shopping district. Following leisure time this afternoon, we visit the National Piping Centre, for a piping demonstration, and a lively welcome dinner at their farm-to-table restaurant. Meals BD

Day 4, Tuesday August 18 (Glasgow-Glencoe-Ballachulish)Departing Glasgow, and travelling to one of Scotland’s renowned whisky distilleries, we’ll taste and see why Highland malt whisky is considered the worlds’ finest. Continuing through the scenery of Glencoe and Rannoch Moor, we admire the Highland countryside of green hills and mountainside waters, and arrive for a two-night stay at the remote Ballachulish Hotel, on the shore of lovely Loch Linnhe. Day 5, Wednesday August 19 (Ballachulish-Isle of Skye-Ballachulish)This morning begins with a beautiful drive along the Road to the Isles and over the Skye Bridge to the legendary Isle of Skye, known in poetry and song as Eilean a’ Cheo (the Misty Isle). We enjoy views of Skye’s Cuillin Hills, some of the most spectacular peaks in Scotland. Visiting Armadale Castle and Gardens, and the Museum of the Isles, we learn about island life and the history of Skye. This afternoon we return to the mainland by ferry, and stop at Glenfinnan, where Bonnie Prince Charlie rallied the clansmen for battle during the 1745 Jacobite Rebellion. We return to Ballachulish for dinner and an evening at leisure. Meals BD

Day 6, Thursday August 20 (Ballachulish-Loch Ness-Thurso)This morning we journey further into the Highlands, through the unspoiled landscapes of the Great Glen, famous for its many lochs (lakes). We visit the striking ruins of Urquhart Castle and enjoy a cruise on Loch Ness, one of Britain’s most scenic bodies of water. This afternoon we leave the beaten path and travel to Thurso, one of the Scottish highlands most remote North Coast towns, and settle in for a two-night stay at the Royal Thurso Hotel. Meals B

Day 7, Friday August 21 (Thurso-Orkney Islands-Thurso)This morning (weather permitting) we board a ferry bound for a day of adventure in the Orkney Islands. Enjoying the sights of seabirds and perhaps porpoises, seals, and otters we arrive in the Orkneys, where a local guide introduces us to this magical place that very few visitors to Scotland get to experience. Visiting Skara Brae, we discover the remains of a Neolithic village, built at the same time as the Great Pyramids in Egypt. We pass the prehistoric Ring of Brodgar, reported to be older than Stonehenge, and continue through the town of Kirkwall where the Vikings left their mark in 1137. Ferrying back to the mainland, we return to Thurso for an evening at leisure. Meals BD

Day 8, Saturday August 22 (Thurso to Eastern Highlands)Departing Thurso, we travel southward along windswept cliffs overlooking Scotland’s rugged east coast. We visit majestic Dunrobin Castle, built in 1275 and resembling a French chateau. Near Inverness, we visit Culloden Battlefield where in April of 1746, a half-hour battle changed the course of history and the lives of the Highland people. Tonight, in the quaint Eastern Highlands village of Grantown-on-Spey, we overnight at the Grant Arms Hotel. Meals BD

Day 9, Sunday August 23 (Eastern Highlands to Edinburgh)This morning at a family-run farm we’ll see sheepdogs at work, while surrounded by the mountain wilderness of Cairngorms National Park. We stop for lunch in the vibrant Victorian town of Pitlochry. Continuing to St. Andrews, the beautiful town in the Kingdom of Fife that gave the world the game of golf, we’ll see the Royal and Ancient Clubhouse and the famous Old Course. Arriving in Scotland’s capital city of Edinburgh, we begin a three-night stay at the Radisson Blue Hotel, located in the heart of the historic Royal Mile in the city’s Old Town. Day 10, Monday August 24 (Edinburgh, city tour & military tattoo)Our morning tour of this regal city explores both the Old and New Towns, and visits the Palace of Holyroodhouse* - the queens official residence in Edinburgh, and Edinburgh Castle - home of the Scottish Crown Jewels. Returning to our hotel, we prepare for this evening’s performance of the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo! Against the backdrop of Edinburgh Castle, the worlds’ most spectacular Tattoo presents talent from around the world including pipers, gymnasts, singers, dancers, an amazing motorcycle display team, and of course the music of the Massed Pipes and Drums and of the Massed Military Bands! Our adventure begins in Belgium, headquarters for the European Union, and renowned for its beer, chocolate, fries, and waffles! We enjoy a four-night stay in Bruges, one of Europe’s most perfectly preserved medieval cities. During a day trip to nearby Ghent, where patrician houses line its streets, we savour the splendour of days gone by. Departing Bruges, we tour the highlights of Brussels, and then continue by High-Speed train to Paris.

Arriving in Paris we board our elegant ship and begin a relaxing seven-night cruise along the meandering Seine River, absorbing the culture, art, history, and romance of France’s Normandy region. Sailing to Conflans we visit Auvers-sur-Oise, once home to 19th-century painters Cézanne and Van Gogh. Cruising past idyllic French countryside we dock in Rouen, Normandy’s historic capital where we see the Gros Horloge astronomical clock. From Le Havre on the English Channel we explore the city of Honfleur, and visit significant D-Day landing sites. At Les Andelys we visit Château Gaillard, and then continue to Giverny to visit the beautiful gardens, which inspired the works of Claude Monet. Returning to Paris, we enjoy a guided tour of the city, and a final night aboard-ship.

Disembarking our ship we visit the Palace of Versailles, and complete our vacation with a two-night hotel stay in the exciting city of Paris!

Day 1, Friday October 9 (depart home, board overnight flight)Following our at-home-pickup-service, we transfer to the Vancouver Airport and depart this afternoon aboard KLM’s overnight flight, non-stop to Amsterdam.

Day 2, Saturday October 10 (flight arrives Amsterdam, coach to Bruges)Arriving at Amsterdam Airport this afternoon we transfer by coach, crossing the border from the Netherlands into Belgium. Arriving in Bruges, we begin a four-night stay at the Crowne Plaza Bruges, ideally located near Market Square in the heart of the city. This evening is at leisure.

Day 3, Sunday October 11 (Bruges, city tour) Following a relaxing breakfast, we join a local guide for a leisurely paced walking tour along the narrow streets and canals of Bruges, one of Europe’s most perfectly preserved medieval cities. Sights include the Church of Our Lady, Saint Salvator’s Cathedral, and one the city’s most prominent symbols – the 13th century Belfry. Day 4, Monday October 12 (Bruges, day trip to Ghent)This morning we visit the university city of Ghent, its city center lined with patrician houses, conveying the splendor of days gone by. Highlights of our guided walking tour include views of Granvensteen Castle, St. Michael’s Bridge, and St Bravo’s Cathedral. In the city’s pedestrianized center, we’ll pause for lunch and browsing at the Korenmarkt, a beautiful square surrounded by historic buildings, restaurants, shops and bars. Day 5, Tuesday October 13 (Bruges, a day at leisure)Today we have the opportunity to explore this beautiful city on our own. Day 6, Wednesday October 14 (Bruges to Belgium to Paris)This morning we depart Bruges and travel by coach to Brussels, Belgium’s capital and headquarters for the European Union. Entering Brussels we see the European Council building, and the landmark Atomium structure from the 1958 World Expo. Strolling the pedestrian streets of charming Old Town Brussels with a local guide, we view the picturesque restaurant-lined Rue des Bouchers, the Royal Galleries shopping arcade, and the Manneken Pis statue. At Grand Place, a beautiful square where shops and cafes are housed in ornate 17th-century guildhouses, we enjoy leisure time for lunch and browsing. Departing Brussels this afternoon we’re whisked to Paris, France aboard the Thalys high-speed train. Transferring from the Paris train station to our beautiful ship the MS Amadeus Diamond, we unpack once for a relaxing 7-night cruise. This evening as our ship departs Paris, we enjoy a welcome cocktail reception followed by dinner with complimentary regional wines. Meal BD

Day 7, Thursday October 15 (cruise Paris to Conflans, visit Auvers-sur-Oise) This morning our ship docks in Conflans, situated at the confluence of the Oise and Seine rivers. We visit the nearby town of Auvers-sur-Oise, once home to several 19th-century painters including Paul Cézanne, Charles-François Daubigny, Camille Pissaro, and perhaps most famously, Vincent Van Gogh. Our tour of Auvers-sur-Oise retraces Van Gogh’s time here, including Auberge Ravoux where he rented his room, the idyllic fields that inspired his last masterpiece, and his final resting place. This afternoon our cruise continues past captivating scenes of the French countryside. Meals BLD

Day 8, Friday October 16 (cruise visits Rouen)Today our ship docks in Rouen, the historical capital of Normandy. We enjoy a guided walking tour of this medieval city, highlighting its many monuments and architectural treasures including the cathedral, the Church of Joan of Arc, and the Gros Horloge astronomical clock. Before returning to the ship, you might choose to visit the site where Joan of Arc was burned at the stake in the 15th century. After lunch you may relax aboard the ship, or join our included Abbey Trail excursion visiting the ruins of both St. Wandrille and Jumièges, and learning about the rich history of the churches, castles and abbeys that once populated this region. Day 9, Saturday October 17(cruise docks in Le Havre, visit Etretat & Honfleur)Our ship docks in Le Havre, a city located on the English Channel at the mouth of the Seine River. This morning begins with stunning cliff-top views as we travel to Étretat, a charming fishing village situated on the Normandy coast, where our guided walking tour highlights the various artists who have visited and painted there. This afternoon we visit Honfleur, a remarkable maritime city. Day 10, Sunday October 18(cruise docks in Le Havre, visit Normandy beaches)Today we visit the Juno Beach Centre and the Canadian War Cemetery, remembering the sacrifice of 14,000 young Canadians who stormed ashore on D-Day, 6 June 1944, enduring fierce fighting with a cost of 340 Canadian lives and another 574 wounded. With the Allies landing a combined force of about 156,00 troops in Normandy, the D-Day victory became a turning point in World War II and led to the liberation of Europe and the Nazi defeat. After lunch we continue to Arromanche-les-Bains, to see the remains of the Mulberry port, a temporary harbour developed by the British, to facilitate rapid offloading of cargo onto the beaches during the Allied invasion. This evening we re-join our ship in Caudebec-en-Caux. Meals BLD

Day 11, Monday October 19 (cruise docks in Les Andelys & Giverny)Docking this morning in Les Andelys, we visit Château Gaillard, constructed in the 12th century by Richard the Lionheart. From its vantage point on a promontory above the Seine, the château offers striking views of the countryside. Continuing to Giverny, we tour Monet’s home and gardens. These tranquil gardens combining flora and water elements, inspired Monet’s greatest works. We re-join our ship in Giverny and tonight we’re welcomed to the elegant Captain’s Gala dinner. Meals BLD

Returning to Paris we enjoy a two-night stay at Le Méridien Etoile Paris, strategically located within walking distance of the Arc de Triomphe and the Champs-Elysées.
