On your mark, get set, flow!  The J.S. Wilson Lego League Team is taking on the challenges facing our water issues in today’s world!  From finding and transporting water to using and disposing of it, our team is researching and presenting on

relevant solutions that may change the way we use water forever.  Our kids are being challenged to think like scientists and engineers to also build, test, and program a robot to navigate obstacles on a playing field.  Who knows?  Maybe it will be a J.S. Wilson student who will make a significant impact on the water dilemma that we face around the world!  The J.S. Wilson Lego Team will be presenting and competing on December 9th at Penn State Behrend!

WHEN ARE PTA MEETINGS?

JSW PTA meetings are held the second Monday of each month, September through May; with the exception of a skipped meeting in December and additional meetings in August and June if needed. Meetings begin at 6:00 pm in the school office and last approximately one hour. All PTA members are welcome.

Student Council

Student Council has had an exciting start to the school year!!  We won first place in the Middle School Division in the Homecoming Parade with the theme “Across the Decades!”  Student worked hard to create our floating timeline of the decades. Students dressed up representing each decade as we passed out candy along the parade route.  Special Thanks to Alan Mele of Mele Plumbing and Heating Co for the help with the construction and towing of our float!! In addition, students had a Spooktacular night at the Halloween dance!! Thank you to the PTA for all of your help and support to make the dance a success!!  If you have photos from the event, please send them to Mr. Fox at [email protected]. We would like to have photos included in the yearbook and the yearend video tribute.  Student Council is working with the Six Pillars of Character and helping to promote a positive school environment and culture. In October Trustworthiness was highlighted with a spirit day and announcements on what it means to be trustworthy.  Throughout the year we will focus on the pillars and character development!

Social Studies - 7th grade

Currently in Social Studies students are learning about the road to the American Revolution. We are analyzing events between the American colonists and Great Britain. Students are looking at these events from multiple perspectives. During our class time, students had the opportunity to be a 14 year old apprentice in the interactive

game Mission US and make decisions on how to participate in the events taking place in Boston in the 1770s like the Boston Massacre and Boston Tea Party. Students made the decision to either remain loyal to the British Crown or revolt with the Sons of Liberty and American Patriots.   We will continue our studies of the revolution and deciding when it is okay to revolt and what rights students feel are most

important.

It’s not too late! If you haven’t already, please consider joining the JS Wilson PTA. In doing so you help support the programs and events sponsored by your local PTA. You also become a member of both the Pennsylvania State and National PTA organizations, and are eligible for exclusive benefits including online parent resources, sponsor offers and discounts from national companies. Check out the websites PAPTA.org and PTA.org for additional information. And then return the form attached as the last page of this newsletter, along with your membership fee to the school office. Tech Ed. Newsletter cont.In 7th grade, students ended the quarter with the Earthquake Structure Challenge. Students were challenged to design a structure that was at least 7 inches tall using only 1/8 in. balsa sticks and a file folder. Students then placed a 1lb weight on the top and then simulated an earthquake on our test table. The competition was to see which structure could last for 1 minute or more.

The 6th grade finished out the first quarter with an obstacle course challenge using the Lego Robots and our classroom obstacle course. This challenge was a culmination of what students learned throughout the quarter by designing programs to compete specific objectives. The course is timed, and the winners of the challenge for the first quarter were Carter Sornberger, Senudin Mehinovic, and Aubrey Decker. Their team not only won bragging rights but also each received their very own handmade designer pen. Congratulations!
