Ayudha Pooja
An important festive occasion that celebrates the indispensible tools of learning
Beyond the Classroom
Outbound trips offer a myriad of experiences, both fun and learning. This time it was grade IX
bringing back to us flavours from the far away Himalayas to the sanctuaries of Nagarahole.
The colours of the Arti that lit-up the beautiful river Ganga,
The majestic Himalayas whose snow-capped peaks glistened in the sunlight,
The feeling of elation and achievement when we reached the top of the Chandrashila peak,
The gorgeous Deoriatal (lake) shimmering like a thousand diamonds,
The adrenalin that coursed through our veins when we went
White water rafting on the mighty river Ganga,
Who graced us with her mercy...
This is what we experienced in Uttaranchal,
A must visit destination for all!

Beyond the Classroom
Nagarahole Diaries
To wake up listening to the sweet sounds of birds and insects in the green, misty forests is
something most people consider a dream come true. We ventured out to experience this first
hand in Nagarahole. Starting from the crack of dawn our schedules were packed with
activities such as visits to the Nagarahole National Park, interaction with the tribal children
and more. Interacting with and observing the wildlife around us gave us all the chance to
reflect on the deteriorating wildlife on the planet. We got the opportunity to assist in feeding
and bathing elephants at an elephant camp and even got to visit a tribal school. Despite the
language barrier we were able to connect with the tribal children and have fun. It was with a
rather heavy heart that we left and come back to our families and routines. But during those
few days we felt like we had become one with nature.

Green Diwali
Diwali, the auspicious day Lord Ram returned to Ayodhya
and reclaimed his throne. Why not make this the year that is
endearingly reminisced as the day our environment regains
its once pristine state? While we drape ourselves with
dazzling silks and rejoice in extravagance, join us in
reinstating mother nature on her bejeweled throne by
celebrating a Green Diwali. Let the tempting and hued
crackers take back stage for an eco-friendly day of fun and
frolic and a better tomorrow.
- Aparna P V of grade XI
Green Diwali
Sparkle this Diwali with a smile – The Green Diwali campaign in school included
assembly street plays, speeches and classroom visits by the Green Brigade.
Glowing illuminated skies,
Sweets that steal our eyes,
And it will be a surprise,
When no booms and bangs
Are immolating little precious lives.
- Yamini S of grade VIII
Student’s Corner
The sparrows chirped softly
The eagles soared in the sky
The parrots squawked loudly
As all the birds flew
By and by,
They were not trapped
Nor were they truly free
But one thing you can be sure of
Is that they flew
With obvious glee,
The tigers roared ferociously
After their midnight prowl
There were no deer to hunt
And the only thing to be heard
Was a restless barnyard owl,
Still they were enjoying life
Meals served both day and night
And after gulping down every morsel
They roared
With satisfied might,
Such was the sight you could see
If you went to a thriving sanctuary!

A Thriving Sanctuary
Diwali Musings
The 1st Diwali I ever celebrated in India
was like an Australian New Year’s Eve in
October. The city glowed bright and there
were so many people on the road outside
my house, all celebrating. While I came to
India in January 2015, my brother had
already been here for a few years. He
showed me how to enjoy Diwali. We set off
all kinds of fire crackers and then I did the
pooja with my grand parents. I had fun!
- Vishakan Ponnusamy of grade VI
Celebrating Diwali is a lot of fun - bursting
crackers, eating sweets and having fun
with friends. But have you ever stopped to
think about the harmful effects crackers
could have on us and nature? Let us
celebrate an eco-friendly Diwali this year
by reducing air and noise pollution. A few
tips: 1. Say no to crackers and light diyas
instead. 2. Play mild music. 3. Use bio-
degradable decorations.
