Junior Campus Sports Carnival
The smell of buttery popcorn, brightly coloured game stalls and excitable voices of the children
drew everyone to Hari Shree grounds. It was the Junior Campus Sports Carnival that brightened
up a Saturday morning. The children explored various fun filled games, relished tasty snacks
and enjoyed with friends on the bouncing castle. This summed up a beautiful, vibrant day.
Celebrations and Festivities
Read Aloud Day
This day was a new experience as we were hearing about the Read Aloud Day for the first time.
It was like old times, where we got to sit together in a circle and cherish the moment with our
classmates as our acharya read captivating stories. With great involvement, we along with our
acharya, were deeply engrossed throughout the session. We thoroughly enjoyed this day and are
looking forward to more such sessions.
- Advika K, grade VII
Bhagavad Gita Chanting
Bhagavad Gita Day was celebrated in January. Children recited shlokas from the scripture,
listened to stories and also participated in a quiz.
It was a proud moment for Ms.Visalakshi and all the acharyas who had volunteered to help
children learn these shlokas.
A Step in the Right Direction
An orientation for students seeking admission to class XI was conducted. This session helped the
parents and students understand the admission procedure, subjects offered and the possible
combinations at the ISC level in Hari Shree.
Hands on Tye and Dye and Pottery Workshop
The Art department of Hari Shree facilitated a Pottery and Tye & Dye workshop for parents as
part of Varnajala, the Annual Art Exhibition.
The poster making competition was much welcomed, as it was for a good cause - Promoting
Afforestation. We used one-sided papers to save our beloved, one and only planet.
Truly, for all of us, it wasn’t a competition. Regardless of who wins, everyone's a winner deep
down, contributing for such a cause.

Taking a Plunge into Indian History
It was towards the end of January that we left for Mysore. The train was at 6 am in the morning,
and spirits were high among the students, teachers and organisers. All of us were extremely eager
for the journey to start. For many of us, it was the first time away from home by ourselves.
Our day trip to the temples of Belur and Halebidu was memorable. The three hour long bus
journey was refreshingly fun and interesting, as we had a lot of time with our friends. The
temples, both of them, were exceedingly beautiful, and were apart from any other temples we had
seen. They had their own unique beauty that couldn’t be found in other temples. The uniqueness of
these temples was that they were both built on only one storey. The exterior of the temples was
equally beautiful, with intricate carvings.
The guide who accompanied us was extremely informative. The entire day was fun, interesting and
gave us an understanding of our heritage. The Tipu Sultan Summer Palace was quite beautiful and
filled with detailed mosaics.
We learned in detail the codes of conduct to be maintained while in public places, a lot about the
temples and about ancient architecture.

Beyond the Classroom
We visited Mysore during the second week of February for our outbound trip. We travelled to
Halebidu, Belur, Kushalnagar and Srirangapattanam over a span of 4 days. We visited many
temples, palaces and other sites including Mysore Palace, Tipu Sultan’s Summer Palace and
Hoysaleswara temple.
The architecture and sculptures in the temples and palaces were surreal and displayed the skills of
our ancestors. We not only learnt about our history, but also had lots of fun. It was an experience
we will always remember.
- Shriya Rama Rajiv, grade VIII
Movement clicked, memories packed, happiness recorded!
Visit to Eco Park
The students of grade IV visited the Adyar Eco Park as a part of extended learning on
adaptation of plants and animals.
Reviving Antiquity
School trips are important for both recreation and learning. We went on a school trip to
Dakshinachitra. It is popularly known for exhibiting various types of houses and south Indian
culture. It was a great experience exploring different kinds of houses, traditional folk dance
(karagattam), magic show, puppet show, glass doll carving and more. We had our tummy giggle
over the bullock cart ride and we enjoyed it the most. It was indeed an amazing trip with our
friends and acharyas.
Hands on Experiences in Farming
Grade 5 went on a field trip to Farm Guru. When we reached there, we could feel the fresh air
unlike the air in the city. The whole farm was on 64 acres of land. We walked barefoot to a field
where we would plough. Getting into the slush and ploughing the field was a one of a kind
experience. We learnt about different types of farming like, Organic farming, Natural farming,
Toxic and Non-Toxic farming.
The bullock cart ride was fun all the way. After that we viewed a hive of bees and learnt about the
different bees in a hive, such as, Queen bee, Guard bee, and Worker bee. Then, one of the uncles
there caught catfish and let us hold it. Of course, we put them back in the water. We took home
some organic vegetables and a house plant each.
Grade 10 GC Marathon
Addressing Sustainable Development Goal 11 - Sustainable Cities and Communities.
Students of grade 10 culminated their GC project after several interesting sessions of surveying,
analysing and brainstorming throughout the year. As part of the last leg, students divided
themselves into five groups, each working on a different topic. These included solar lighting,
vertical gardening, traffic signage and regulation, electricity conservation in the corridors using
motion sensors and water quality testing. Thus yet another enriching, insightful and fulfilling year
of GC came to a close.

Every Drop Counts
Through a survey done in our school, we found that there was water wastage while gardening. Our
idea to use a rubber inlet to reduce the flow rate in taps did not save water efficiently. Hence, we
came up with the solution of Drip Irrigation, which saves water and nutrients by allowing water to
drip slowly to the roots of plants from above the soil surface. We implemented it with the help of
our GC teachers and are able to save about 100 litres of water per day.
- Reported by the Drip Irrigation team of Grade 7
Global Citizenship
Students from grade VII created strainers for sinks using glue sticks to prevent clogging of pipes in the
school kitchen while washing plates and vessels. – Grade 7 Sanitation Team
Sink Filtering
Grey water refers to wastewater from non-toilet plumbing fixtures such as basins and taps. The
reuse method involves diverting waste water from the sinks into a grey water collection system.
The grey water is then used for cleaning the washrooms. With this system we are saving about 40
litres of water every day. – Grey Water Harvesting Team Grade 7

Solvathon 2020
The ‘Solvathon 2020’ was an enjoyable and informative event organized by Reap Benefit in
collaboration with CHSV. Students and teachers from various schools attended this event. Through
interactive games and activities, we were taught a simple acronym (DISS- Discover, Investigate,
Solve, Share) to remember the steps to ideate and solve environmental as well as civic problems.
We learnt to implement this process with synergy, working as a team . We were able to build
prototypes and share ideas and it was a great learning experience for everyone.

Students’ Corner
The delighted chirps of birds
Gliding through golden skies
Their high pitched voices
Making euphonious sounds.
The cute little rabbits
Hopping about evergreen meadows
They go around swiftly
You’d barely notice them at all.
The rustling of leaves
At the tips of emerald trees
The colours shine in the sun
Especially those magnificent and young
The wonders of the sky
Most thoughtful of all
Bright sunny skies or azure and frigid
Always quite charming.
The swishes of gentle rivers
Or the shouts of great ones
Never do we cease to wonder
The divinity of the flowing waters.
Small white flakes
Falling upon grass
Glaze shines on class
The season’s gift.
The heavenly hours or
When dawn just awakens
How amazing nature is
Shall not be mistaken.
We love it so greatly
To the deep ends of our bones
So we’ll maintain it as such
To give back to the world we so owe.
