University of Minnesota Duluth's sophomore pitcher, Adam Kwak, throws a pitch against the Bemidji State Beavers on Monday evening. The Bulldogs lost 1-2 in the 11th inning.

Winds from the ENE at 20-30 mph with gusts from 40-50 mph hit Canal Park in Duluth, Minn. on March 22. Waves hit the shore creating an ice layer 2-3 inches thick stretching as far as three yards away.

Encompassing Love. This photograph would fit in the portrait category. It shows a candid moment of shared laughter and companionship within a relationship of two peoples lives.

UMD sophomore hurler Adam Zwak unleashes a pitch against the Bemidji State University Beavers on Monday April 18 during a game at Bulldog Park.  The Beavers won both games of a double-header by scores of 9-5 and 2-1.

The Stillwater Lift Bridge in Stillwater, Minn. was closed due to flooding of the St. Croix River on April 9. Police barricades block the public from the water's edge to ensure their safety. The bridge is expected to reopen on the afternoon of April 25.

On March 19 Michael Lande skips over the freezing cold water pit with ease at the Giants Ridge 2011 Slush Cup in Biwabik, Minn.. Every year the Giants Ridge ski resort holds its annual Slush Cup which attracts people from the Midwest and Canada. The main event is where skiiers and snowboarders race down the hill and try to skip over the water pit without falling in. The event also includes outdoor music, drinks and food.

The waves crashed on Lake Superior on March 23. The predicted blizzard expected over March 23-24  never took place. Instead, wind speeds up to 40 mph blew through Duluth.

This rock retaining wall is all that still stands of the Chalet Motel on 1801 London Rd. in Duluth, Minn. on April 18. The motel was taken down in order to make way for new Walgreen's pharmacy offices.

RIchard Justice is excited to get a fish in his fishing hole during the Duluth's Big Jig Ice Fishing Contest 2011 in Pike Lake, Minn. Thousands of people attending this annual event in Feb. 13.

This is a portrait photograph (see major assignment II). I didn't feel it required a caption, however I will explain how I took the photograph. I had the camera switched to manual. I turned the flash off. I think I had it on the landscape setting, with a very slow shutter speed. The only light came from my window, but the long exposure time allowed the photo to soak up a lot of light. During the exposure time, I zoomed in from 18mm to about 35 mm, giving the left and right sides of the photo a feeling of movement. I focused on the mirror in front of me, which is why that the image in the mirror is more in focus than the rest - although I wish it would have come out clearer.

Heavy Duluth winds caused waves from Lake Superior to spray onto shore, covering the trees near the Aerial Lift Bridge in Canal Park with layers of ice on March 23.

University of Minnesota Duluth mens Baseball competed against Bemidi State on Monday April 18. Marcus Riewer leads off the second inning for the UMD Bulldogs as Miles Campbell of Bemidji pitches. Bemidji State won 2-1 in 11 innings.

Val of Duluth, Minn cleaned his violin after playing it at Sir Ben's Tavern on the Lake on Wednesday bluegrass night.
