We Are Royalby Kelly, Nicholas

It is with great excitement that we get to share our new school logo that complements our school motto of Bold Education. Inspired Minds.

Based on feedback collected in September – the overwhelming majority of students and staff at Windsor Park Collegiate identified as Royals. The school staff have worked closely with a specialized design team to create what the students and staff see for the future of Windsor Park Collegiate.

The new logo symbolizes our school motto of Bold Education. Inspired Minds. through its powerful imagery.

Why a crown you ask? Our school is named after Royalty. The Duke of Windsor is fa-mous for creating the most well-known crown in all the land. He wanted to create the most elite and most recognizable crown to represent his family. He was not satisfied with his first attempts and it became his life’s work. With the help of his children to de-sign and redesign, he finally captured the perfect Royal crown. The crown that you see in our new school logo is the exact crown that was created by the Duke of Windsor who was known for hard work; dedication; pride; family and perseverance.

On November 9th, 2016 the new school logo was unveiled and showcased at our Fall Pep Rally.

As we move forward in the 2016-2017 school year and for years to come, the legacy of Windsor Park Collegiate will be honored through a careful archiving of previous school mottos and logos.

Co-op Ed Students Raise Funds for IBD

Mr. Susko’s Co-op Ed class has been busy making survivor bracelets to help raise money for Crohn’s and Colitis research in Canada. This endeavour began when the students were informed that one of their own, Mrs. Janice Hallem, a retired WPC Educational Assistant has suffered with Inflammatory Bowel Disease for over 30 years.

As quoted in the November 21st copy of the Lance, the students were empowered to develop a product for manufacturing with a goal of giving back through their work.

On Dec 8th the hovercraft team had an awesome morning sharing their concept and story with CTV News and Taz Stuart from Poulin's. The team and their innovative idea represented the #boldeducation happening at Windsor Park Collegiate during their spot on the evening news.

On Nov. 28th our grade nine social studies students had the opportunity to learn history from someone who lived and continues to live it. Elder Hazel gathered our students into a sharing circle, where they shared a traditional smudge, then she shared her captivating story. “Thank you to Elder Hazel for sharing her experiences with us. She gave us an enlightening and thought provoking insight into the issues and struggles faced by many residential school survivors.” Sandi Wagner

Good looking food. Two of our students Cody Ballentyne and Zachary Surinx had the honour of working alongside a professional food stylist and food photographer at the Louis Riel Arts and Technology Centre. This session was to assist them in taking quality photos for a divisional cook book project. The students took in all the details offered and have been turning out mouth-watering pictures of dishes made by our foods and nutrition classes ever since.

Our fall sports are a good representation of what a Royal looks like. As a school of just over five hundred students, we are able to field competitive teams in SCAC 3A division showing our student’s commitment to academics and sport. As of next year our gym makeover will be completed, with our new logo in place giving the already proud Royals even more motivation.

Just a short year ago Connor McCuen started training at Winnipeg Academy of Mixed Martial Arts. At the Fall Manitoba open Jiu Jitsu tournament held at Windsor Park Collegiate he took home a silver medal for his hard work. Connor trains three times a week in Jiu Jitsu and kickboxing with some of Canada’s toughest MMA fighters, and most respected coaches. Look for Connor at the top of the podium in the Spring Manitoba Open.
