Part 1:
• We will watch a few different videos of satirical celebrity interviews.• As you watch, make a list of satirical elements in the interview. What
are some things that the interviewer asks that are ironic, absurd, or exaggerated?• What effect does the interview have on the interviewee?• What is the overall message or commentary of the interview? In other
words, what is the creator of this satire criticizing?

Part 2- Pre-writing
Prewriting Step 1-
- List a few celebrities that irk you.
Pre-writing Step 2-
• What are some things that irritate you about these celebrities?Consider their talent (or lack there of), hobbies, speech, actions,
relationships, personality, etc…
Pre-writing Step 3-
• Now list some interviewers that irk you (Oprah, Charlie Rose, Jay Leno, Jimmy Kimmel, Conan O’Brien, etc…).
Pre-writing Step 4-
• What are some things that irritate you about these interviewers? Consider the types of questions they ask, their show format, their style of speech, etc…
Pre-writing Step 5-
Part 3- Write your own satirical celebrity interview
• Using a satirical interview method create an interview choosing one interviewer from your pre-writing. This interviewer should ask questions and sometimes provide their own opinions and thoughts. • Choose one of the celebrities from your pre-writing. They should
provide answers, and sometimes you may choose to have them ask the questions. How ironic! • The interview should look like a script.• Be sure to use irony, absurdity and exaggeration to enhance the satire
and make your message clear about what it is that you are specifically criticizing.
