• Do you trust Herbert? Why or why not? Do you think Herbert has an agenda? Do you find any flaws in his arguments, and if so, what are they? Does Herbert have any biases? If he does, how do they play into his argument?

Logos and Ethos
• Logos– What is the major assertion that the author makes
in the poem? Write it in the margin of the poem.– Highlight the support the author provides for
these assertions, and note them on your chart.• Ethos– Do you trust this author? Why or why not? Would
your answer have been the same if you did not know some biography about him?

• Pathos– Which specific parts of the piece affect you
emotionally? Review your reflections on the back of the poem
