Josie Tulipano Josie brings with her approximately twelve years of member-community leadership experience, roles including: Executive Director of the American Chamber of Commerce Singapore, General Manager of The Tower Club Singapore, General Manager of the American Club Singapore and General Manager of The Palm Shoreline Beach Clubs Dubai. These fast-paced and complex operations served very diverse member communities as large as 13,000, with a team of 400 staff, a $40M annual turnover, with 12 member committees. As Executive Director/General Manager, Josie ensured that the Board-mandated operational, financial and strategic objectives were not just met, but exceeded and that all stakeholder relations were strong. Most recently, at the American Chamber of Commerce Singapore, Josie led a membership base of 5,000, representing 800 companies, and hosting 250 events per year. Over 75% of AmCham’s members were regional senior executives representing the majority of the Fortune 500 Companies in Singapore. Events included hosting U.S. Secretary of State Clinton, Steve Forbes, Ambassador-At-Large Tommy Koh, Philip Ng and U.S. Attorney General Holder, among numerous other high profile, international and regional leaders. While under Josie’s leadership in 2012, U.S. Ambassador to Singapore, David Adelman, nominated the Chamber for the U.S. Department of Commerce’s International Trade Administration’s ‘Peace Through Commerce Award’, which The Chamber won. Josie successfully organized various trade missions in South East Asia, led by the U.S. Ambassador to Singapore, including the first U.S. business mission to Naypyidaw, ever. Josie reported to a 20-member Board of Governors. Notably, Josie was the award-winning General Manager of The American Club in Singapore from 2000 to 2007, and the youngest in its 65-year history. There, Josie initiated a turnaround strategy, bringing The American Club finances firmly into the black after years of loses, despite 9-11, SARS and a 20% reduction in membership. By creating an under-one- roof concept through the introduction of highly popular new services, member engagement soared to the point where The American Club closed the sale of various membership categories. Under her leadership, member/staff satisfaction and F&B spending flourished, and the open market value of the Transferable Membership doubled. Recognised for her visionary style and endless energy, Josie successfully led the club to achieve The People Developer Standard, a National Certification to recognise organisations that institutionalise staff development. The Club also won the Singapore Energy Efficiency Building Award and countless Singapore Excellent Service Awards. Josie also pioneered club loyalty programs within the region with very successful programs such as VIP Gold and Elite, still in effect today. To Josie’s credit, Member’s perception of Management effectiveness grew 25%, from 68% in the late 1990s, to 84% in 2007, as measured by a 3rd party consultant (McMahon Group). Josie’s careful attention to succession planning has seen both her deputies assume the leadership role, ensuring continued management excellence at The American Club. Josie was also the General Manager of the Tower Club Singapore, part of the CDL conglomerate. The Tower Club served an elite C-suite membership base of 2000 with a team of 100 and reported to the CDL Board of Directors. There, Josie reversed a 5-year consecutive membership decline and hit a 57-month matriculation high through innovative marketing campaigns and led The Tower Club’s 15th Annual Golf Championship to be its most successful. As a management consultant, Josie worked on projects including Ayara Hilltop Resort (Thailand), Pacific Star (Singapore) and Lootah Vanbots (U.A.E.). Whilst in Canada, following six years in Economic Development at the Federal and Local Government levels, Josie served as one of nine team members responsible for the fast-track opening of what was in 1996, Canada’s largest casino. For eight years, Josie was an active member of the Club Managers Association of America (CMAA) and the Club Managers Association of Singapore, serving as Secretary for CMAA Far East Chapter. She also served the Association of Collegiate Entrepreneurs Canada for six years, initially as a Chapter President and ultimately, as National Chairman. Having often caught the attention of the business community, Josie’s successes have resulted in numerous published articles and invitations to share success stories at regional conferences. Josie’s passion for excellence, perseverance, and servant leadership style are complimented by a hospitality focused Honours Commerce Degree from the University of Guelph, Canada.
