A Note to Parents of

Young ShootersParents sometimes feel reluctant to allow their

children to handle a firearm. Dan understands

wanting to be protective, and offers that the key is

to provide professional instruction on gun handling,

range etiquette, and shotmaking. There is so much

incorrect information about firearms and shooting

in the media today, it is much more beneficial to

expose your child to correct information under

the supervision of a qualified instructor than to

allow misunderstanding that confuses the truth.

Enlightenment brings respect for the mechanical

marvel of a firearm, the proper way to carry it, and

being responsible for its operation.

Learning how to shoot safely carries through to

other activities in a child’s life that also require

attention to safety. Shooting a firearm involves

learning how this ingenious device works and how

to keep it clean and operational, skills that apply

to using other devices and understanding how

mechanical things work.As with other sports, there are many benefits to

participating in the shooting sports. Unlike some

other sports, however, that can be intimidating

to smaller-sized children, one can be successful

at shooting, regardless of body type. Confidence

builds quickly as a result. The value of taking

lessons in any activity is priceless when you see

your child learning how to focus, listen, and apply

what the instructor is teaching. With shooting,

the result of learning is tangible, and Dan enjoys

sharing the delight of a youth shooter when they

see the target break in the sky.

Many parents have told Dan of the changes they

observe as their child works with him over time.

Confidence in their ability to take on a new

activity, and in succeeding at it, contributes to

maturing at a steady pace. Parents find that they

can use the opportunity to shoot as a reward

for their child’s good behavior, whether it is in

completing tasks at home or positive performance

in their schoolwork. As your child becomes an

adult and a leader, they will find that knowing

about the shooting sports will serve them well as

they engage in whatever business they choose.
