  • PHILIPPINE SCIENCE HIGH SCHOOL SYSTEMAn attached agency of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST)Composed of 11 campuses all over the countryOffers secondary education (K7-K10) to Filipino students (12-16 years old) with high aptitude in science and mathHas a specialized curriculum with emphasis on science and mathematicsAll students are scholars of the Philippine government- free tuition, free dormitory, with minimal stipends70% of students are interns; 30% externsPSHS Main Campus- has 8 sections per year level (maximum of 30 students per class; total of 960 students10 Regional Campuses- each campus has 3 sections/year level; total of 240 students per campus

  • THE PSHS MISSIONThe PSHS prepares its students for

    -- careers in S & T and

-- contribute to nation building by helping the country attain a critical mass of professionals and leaders in science & technology.

  • Building a culture of science is a continuum in the PSHSWVC Curriculum:

    Integrated Science(Investigatory Project)-First Year (K-7)

Summer Science -Second Year(K-8)Internship Program (SSIP)

Science Research-Third Year (K-9) and Fourth Year (K-10)

  • FIRST YEAR: INVESTIGATORY PROJECTSimple investigations which can be done in school, at home, or in the field

Sources of problems: curiosity, folk stories, experiences, literature

    Student-designed experiments are accepted

OBJECTIVE: SCIENCE IS FUN!FIRST YEAR (K-7; 12 year old students): INVESTIGATORY PROJECT

  • PSHSWVC SCIENCE FAIR First Year student (K-7) explaining her Investigatory Project during the school-wide Science Fair.

  • SECOND YEAR (G-8; 13-14 year old students): SUMMER SCIENCE INTERNSHIP PROGRAM(SSIP)A month-long apprenticeship program by incoming third year students of PSHSWV in public and private institutions that are engaged in research, technology development and other scientific undertakings

  • THE PSHSWV Science Research ProgramFEEDBACKS FROM STUDENTSI learned that one cant conduct research successfully by himself alone. He needs the help of other people I became a more responsible person (Angelo)Research has been a most tiring and painful subject. But we have learned so many things that only few people can learn. Research is worth doingand not just for the grade. (Ness)

  • FEEDBACKS FROM STUDENTSThe whole idea of going around places to find literature and sources, and tackling subjects we dont usually take [in school] excited me. Research also made me see that as long as I dont give up, then I can truly win in the fight. (Noreen Bautista)I have kept in mind that to do things early gives you better results. (Jewel Viajar)

  • DAY 3: COMMUNITY SCIENCE FAIR

  • Building a culture of science continues through a PSHS System nationwide outreach program, UPLIFT.

UPLIFT: UPGRADING PROGRAM- LEARNING INSTITUTE FOR TEACHERS

THE PSHS SYSTEM WILL CONDUCT THE FIRST PHASE OF A NATIONWIDE UPGRADING PROGRAM FOR 1,500 SECONDARY SCHOOL TEACHERS IN THE PHILIPPINES FROM MAY 7-18, 2012.

  • UPLIFT: UPGRADING PROGRAM- LEARNING INSTITUTE FOR TEACHERS

End goal: To develop human resource in Science and Technology, specifically by improving science and mathematics instruction in the basic education level.

Science: To focus on strategies like inquiry-based learning, integration of technology in the classroom and inclusion of investigatory projects in the science curriculum.

Math: To focus on content and problem-solving skills.

Funding Agency: DOST- Science Education Institute, the PSHS System, Department of Education

  • By building a culture of science, we can produce young minds who can think for themselves and for society.

  • BY BUILDING A CULTURE OF SCIENCE WE CAN BUILD A BETTER PHILIPPINES

***We prepare our students for careers in Science and Technology. We hope to contribute to nation building by helping this country attain a critical mass of professionals and leaders in S and T.**At PSHSWV, building a culture of science is a continuum in our curriculum.Students start to learn the scientific method in first year as they do Investigatory Project in their Integrated Science Class.

In Second Year, they see the application of Science in the real world as they participate in the 4-weeks Summer Science Internship Program.

In third and fourth year, they perform actual research and experience science as a formal endeavor.**Conducting an Investigatory project is a major requirement in or Integrated Science Class. Integrated Science is a 2-unit subject in first year. **********************
