KEY ADMINISTRATIVE ACCOMPLISHMENTS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA Many individuals, including faculty, staff, students and external constituent groups, have contributed to and led to the accomplishments presented below:

• Achieved highest program rankings according to U.S. News & World Report in history of program, including 10th overall, 8th public for graduate and 12th overall, 10th public for undergraduate in the latest report. (Graduate program was ranked 15th overall and undergraduate program was unranked upon my arrival in 2007.)

• Increased tenure track faculty from 13 to 15 from 2007 to 2011 and currently searching for 16th member. Successfully promoted six faculty members (four with tenure). Hired five faculty members since 2008.

• Managed state resources of roughly $3 million per year over the past five years. (State appropriations have declined annually but total resources have remained relatively constant due to new faculty lines.)

• Averaged $1.583 million in federal research expenditures from 2007 to 2011, up from $1.094 million in 2006 (according to ASEE published data), or a 45% increase.

• Increased graduate research space by 1000 ft2 (14 desks and workstations), renovated a further 3450 ft2 of research space (30 desks and workstations, four offices and conference room) and established a 340 ft2 senior design laboratory (two dedicated workstations with high-end software, storage and meeting space) with private funds.

• Developed Systems Engineering program with online delivery. Enrollments have tripled since 2009.

• Established 4+1 BS/MS in ISE program, which currently enrolls 15 students. New 4+1 BS in ISE/MS in Finance to debut in Fall of 2012.

• Increased master’s program enrollment by 34% and undergraduate enrollment by 37% since 2006. Averaged 91 B.S., 116 M.S./M.E., and 9.4 Ph.D. graduates per year over the past five years.

• Increased Outreach Engineering Management enrollments by 31% with direct revenue benefits to Department, College and University. The program has generated nearly $400,000 per year in excess revenue over the past five years. This is shared between the Department, College of Business and University.

• Created the position of ISE Development Director (2/3 funded by Department and 1/3 by College) to focus on large gifts for Department. Four large gifts (greater than $100,000) have been secured over four years. Increased endowed funds three-fold and unrestricted funds over ten-fold in that time.

• Initiated ISE Alumni Leadership Award defining Department Hall of Fame to recognize influential alumni on an annual basis. Introduced at gala event celebrating 75th Anniversary of Department.

Page 3: Joseph C. Hartman, Ph.D., P.E. - College of Engineering · 2013. 5. 26. · Joseph C. Hartman • 2May, 2012 PROFESSIONAL REGISTRATION: Professional Engineer, (Passed P.E. Exam) State

Joseph C. Hartman • May, 2012 3

• Successfully nominated five ISE alumni for University Distinguished Alumnus Awards.

• Revamped, revised and expanded Industrial Advisory Board to increase corporate partnerships and alumni relations. Board Bylaws written to define membership roles according to Curriculum, Industry Liaison and Development committees.

• Initiated industrial sponsorship of senior design capstone project course to enhance student learning experience and increase Department funds. Sponsors have included BAE Systems, Coca-Cola, Nielsen, Northrop Grumman, Pepsi, Procter & Gamble, Raytheon, Rockwell Collins and UPS as well as non-profit entities including Shands Hospital, the College of Dentistry and the U.S. Air Force, Army and Navy. The program has generated $215,000 over four years with over 50 projects completed.

• Established Student Advisory Council such that student leaders would meet monthly with the Chair to facilitate communication between students and faculty and help set student group agendas. Established ISE Ambassadors, a student group designated to interface with alumni and recruit new students, an INFORMS Student Chapter to facilitate undergraduate student research, and a Student Sales Engineering Society to help open new career opportunities for students.

• Developed and delivered first undergraduate online course (Engineering Economy) in the College facilitating 400+ enrollments per year.

• Initiated Department Newsletter (printed three times per year) and Monthly E-newsletter (student driven).

• Launched new Department Website in Fall of 2011 to facilitate timely news stories about department. Alumni LinkedIn group page established Fall of 2008.

• Established Department Bylaws and formal Teaching Load Policy. A new graduate student handbook is currently being written.
