older MSDS into GHS formatting. Organised lab into proper working area. Learning and working with Australian Dangerous Goods Code version 7.

6 Sept 1988 to 30 Sept. 2008

DOW CHEMICAL AUSTRALIA, LTDEmployed as Quality Assurance Chemist/Facilities ManagerDuties included:

Working across several plants including Latex and POD plant laboratories. Released final product for customer shipment according to Dow specifications and

customer needs. Became proficient in use of Dow workstations. Purchased laboratory consumables by PSMS and credit card. Assess laboratory capital

needs, then purchased and set up capital equipment. Led Latex Quality Team, whose goal was to solve customer complaints and internal

problems in the latex production process. Made adjustments to latex process to meet Dow and customer quality specifications. Participated in internal Dow audits of other production laboratories. Managed latex plant Total Quality system, laboratory procedures, equipment calibration

and maintenance program, Rework database and Quality Performance & Information Management System database.

Ensured maintenance of laboratory buildings and equipment took place as needed. Ran biocide program to ensure latex is free of bacteria in customer shipments and storage

tanks. Led CAMP [Corrective Action Management Plan], a system to resolve internal and external

customer complaints. Prepared quality control charts for external and internal customers. Worked in POD/Glycols plant laboratory releasing USP product and performing plant Inter

Laboratory Uniformity testing. Worked in Polyurethanes laboratory performing foam testing as needed, in conjunction with

the POD Plant Quality Assurance Chemist. Worked on EH&S and OH&S issues as they related to plant and laboratory operations. Worked in partnership with plant and TS&D people on recycling offgrade product.

During my time with DOW Chemical Pty Ltd I accomplished the following: Worked with several teams across the geographical regions of Asia, North & South

America, and Europe for the latex, epoxy and POD businesses. These analytical quality teams solved several problems for the analytical labs, and have led to uniform procedures and operations for Dow across diverse cultures and operations.

Worked with Management of Change system.

Managed to keep the POD laboratory going through the first 6 months of 2002 when their chemist left Dow, until the POD plant hired a new chemist. I then trained the new chemist. At the same time, I was part of a team leading the refurbishment of the POD laboratory and the introduction of the new equipment. This was in addition to my normal duties at latex, plus conducting the Inter Laboratory Uniformity testing program for Emulsion Polymers (Latex) division.

Took over full facility management of latex/epoxy lab in 1998, responsible for purchasing supplies, managing procedures, maintenance of lab, instrument purchase, maintenance, and calibrations, capital improvements, training, OHS, and MSDS management. Later I took over boxfoam lab and managed that until it was shut down through a business decision.

I have participated in audits conducted by the Dow Chemical Emulsion Polymers division. The Dow business audits look at all parts of the business and are more stringent and thorough than audits conducted by registered auditing firms.

Led the Inter Laboratory Uniformity testing for the Emulsion Polymers division of Dow Chemical in 2002. I collected 50 samples, sent them out, collated the data, and then shared the data with all the other plants. Received letter of accomplishment for this.

Invented a test for the Epoxy plant that led to a reduction in volatiles testing from 4.5 hours down to a 10 minute procedure performed in a commercial microwave oven. I did the bulk of the research that proved the principle. I was one of the 4 authors on the CRI report on the procedure. Approximate savings of $30,000 USD lab costs per year in the Australian epoxy business, and $2MM yearly for total Dow epoxy business; vastly improved plant runtime capacities.

Cleaned out hazardous chemicals from the shutdown of the polyurethane laboratory in 2002. This was accomplished in a safe manner with no spills or injuries. The lab was shutdown when we discovered customers were not using the data we generated; saving $50K US per year.

Removed hazardous chemicals without incident or injury from the epoxy TS&D area and boxfoam labs when they shut down.

Reduced the use of resources used in laboratory testing and sampling, by use of recycling and using less expensive containers. Sample containers are the biggest use of financial resources in the laboratory. About $3K per year savings.

Prepared the latex/epoxy laboratory for the first ISO9000 certificate in the Dow world in 1992. ISO9000 is now standard in all Dow facilities around the world.

I trained operators and several staff members to do portions of my job so that my absence did not affect plant operations. Trained plant personnel in OHS and QC databases matters.

Worked with staff and operators at latex to reduce offgrade from 1988 level of 40% to 1.6% in 1997 and keep it at those levels for duration of time I was there. Implementation of continuous improvement and 6 Sigma programs.
