MACALIPAY, MA. LOURDES A. SEPTEMBER 25, 2014— Thursday SY 1149 RIZAL Midterms Prof. Mario Miclat Jose Rizal [film] Jose Rizal is a biographical film directed by Marilou Diaz- Abaya and staring Cesar Montano as the Philippine national hero— Jose Rizal. The film depicts Jose Rizal in many aspect of his career, but it primarily focuses on Jose Rizal as an advocate of nationalism. Jose Protacio Rizal Mercado y Alonso Realonda or popularly known as Jose Rizal, is one of the most acclaimed patriot from Philippines. The self-entitled film focuses on portraying the abusive colonization of the Spaniards and the unselfish contribution in the historical and social transformation of Jose Rizal in our country. From what I watched, there were scenes that were not clear to me especially the part of flashbacks. However, I appreciate the scene where in colonial government-appointed counsel--Luis Taviel Andrade really shows his concern towards Jose Rizal. A lot of scenes from the film were about the case and argument for the defense prior to the incarceration of Jose Rizal. The film is not suitable for children, in my opinion because it has inappropriate and disturbing situation like when the abusive friar is raping Filipino women. All in all, I would like to recommend the film to all Filipinos who wants to understand our history more, but the viewer must have exert more attention towards the film because of its complexity in terms of the transition of the film.
