José Manuel Serrano (Argentina, 1982) Composer Composition studies with Mariano Etkin (Argentina) and María Cecilia Villanueva (Argentina). Selected at several International Workshops and Festivals for Young composers as: Accademia Musicale Chigiana (Siena, Italy, 2014); 5th and 6th International Workshop for Young Composers (Latvia, years 2010 and 2012); Etchings Festival (Auvillar, France, years 2011 and 2013); Composit, A New Music Festival 2012(Rieti, Italy), Summer Institute of Contemporary Performance Practice 2013 (Boston, USA) and “Escuchar, componer”, (Bariloche, Argentina, years 2010 and 2011). In this framework he attended classes with composers Salvatore Sciarrino, Georg Friedrich Haas, Stefano Gervasoni, Tristan Murail, David Lang, Joshua Fineberg, Lee Hyla, Michaël Lévinas, Pär Lindgren and Toivo Tulev. His music has been played in Germany, France, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Japan, Canada, Sweeden, UK, USA, Latvia, Argentina, Uruguay and Cuba by several ensembles, including: Quartetto Prometeo (Italy), Ensemble Aleph (France), Ensemble Aventure (Germany), Duo Dillon-Torquati (Italy), L’arsenale Ensemble (Italy), Latvian Radio Choir, East Coast Contemporary Ensemble (USA), Platypus Ensemble (Austria) and The Riot Ensemble (UK). Also his music has been played at international music series and festivals like Tage für Neue Musik (Zürich, 2012); New Directions Festival (Sweden, 2014); “XXIII Festival Internacional de Música Contemporánea de la Habana(Cuba, 2009); Laboratoire Instrumental EUropéen (LIEU; Paris and Riga, 2010); musica aperta series (Winterthur, Switzerland, 2011); L’Imaginaire Festival (Strasbourg, Francia, 2013); Teatro Argentino de La Plata (Argentina, 2012), Teatro SODRE concert series (Montevideo, Uruguay, 2009), among others. He received the “Diploma di Merito“ at Accademia Musicale Chigiana in 2014 given by Salvatore Sciarrino, and was selected winner at the “ECCE Ensemble Call for Scores 2014”, “Ensemble Périphérie Call for Scores 2014”, “Ensemble Platypus Call for Scores 2013”, and obtained a Special Mention at the “Lydian String Quartet Commission Prize 2012”. He was selected Composer in Residence by The Riot Ensemble (UK) for the year 2015. Since 2007 he works as Assistant in Composition with Mariano Etkin at the National University of La Plata.
