6–7 p.m. A discussion of Ferrer’s career and its significance in the history of Latinos in U.S. film, theatre and TV led by Dr. Charles Ramirez-Berg, the author of “Latino Images in Film: Stereotypes, Subversion, and Resistance.” In addition to numerous other articles on Latinos in U.S. films, Dr. Ramirez-Berg has written entries for the World Film Encyclopedia, The International Dictionary of Films and Filmmakers and The Oxford Encyclopedia of Latinos and Latinas in the United States. He is also a member of the National Film Preservation Board of The Library of Congress.
7–9 p.m. Screening: “Cyrano de Bergerac,” Ferrer’s 1950 Academy Award-winning film. Run time: 112 minutes
9–9:30 p.m. Q & A with Dr. Ramirez-Berg

2:00–2:30 p.m. Intro of films & brief discussion of “The Caine Mutiny” and “Moulin Rouge” by Dr. Ramirez-Berg.
2:30–4:30 p.m. “Caine Mutiny” screening
5–7:00 p.m. “Moulin Rouge” screening 7–8 p.m. Dr. Campo will lead a conversation with José Ferrer’s children, who will share what it was like growing up in an acting family and what they see when they watch José Ferrer’s films. They will also discuss their father’s ethnic identity and how he was able to pioneer a new road for Latinos in film.
