processIt is good as a designer to un-derstand your personal pro-cess that works for you. It allows for there to be a go-to system that you can always rely on while designing a proj-ect.

dr+dr²In the time period of all of the creative project I have been a part of, I found a process that works for me. I call it the DR+DR² process. It consists of defining the issue, research-ing, designing, reviewing the design, and then repeat. This process is very flexible in that some projects don’t need all five parts and sometimes the process takes months and oth-er times minutes.

Define what issue that you are trying to solve.

Research various ways to solve the issue. Look up inspi-ration, case studies, and stan-dards.

Create a solution the issue.

Evaluate the solution you cre-ated and look for potential new issues.

Designing the interior of a space is not just about picking out materials and furniture. I focus on the psychology of the space and the user, and the overall experience. People today don’t just want a space that is functional, but a space that they will remember and want return to.

thinking wellnessThe well-being center for an Indianapolis community should be a welcoming en-vironment to encourage the youth to actively seek overall health and wellness. The cen-ter is named “Forty-Five” in re-gards to the geometry and the meaning behind the angular name. Diagonal lines signify activeness. The structure is de-signed to keep the user alert and curious through interest-ing features on varied planes.

artExpression translated on pa-per or canvas has always been a passion of mine. This has been the foundation of my design style. It has allowed for an understanding of many designing principles (con-trast, composition, color, pro-portion).

Painting is about layers. This layering process allows for patience in letting the process happen. First you start with the base colors, then add de-tailed feature, and then I like to add “flare”. After I finish the painting overall, I add bright, unexpected colors for visual interest

Publication design has been an extension of my graphic design knowledge. Adding on layout knowledge and font proportion, it has expanded my understand, allowing me to work on various publica-tion projects.

The art catalogue is the cre-ation of simple art pieces that follow a template or set of in-structions created by the orig-inator of the are design (an in-dividual within the company). The art pieces come in two different forms; hand-painted and printed. The hand-paint-ed option will be made by an individual(s) within Mitsch Design. The printed option will be created in Adobe Illus-trator (a vector-based design program). The Illustrator art files would be resized, recol-ored, and manipulated how-ever is needed to fill client needs and placed in a canvas scale. At this time, all prints will be done on stretched can-vas through an outside source. Through the art catalogue de-sign process, there is more of a controlled outcome of art se-lection for both the designer and client.

As a summer intern, there was only a limited amount of time to create the Art Catalogue for Mitsch Design. Instead of trying to complete the im-possible task of creating the entire catalogue, I constructed a template for the company to build on to as they create more art catalogue op-tions.

Developing a skill in graphic design started with one class that blossomed into making it my chosen minor. I not only want to use graphic design in it’s traditional understanding (logos, icons, signage), I want to make it an extension of my art foundation, using princi-ples found in artwork.

TheconceptGraphiCAD is a future firm who plans to take older buildings and bring them into the 21st century. The ini-tial concept of graphiCAD involved arrows that cycled around. Later, a way was found to not only incorporate the arrows but also the initials of the company. And then the one sided arrow was born for the GraphiCAD brand.

There are sometimes projects that are not quite finished, but worth recognizing. It is al-ways a pleasure to see where projects were at one point in time to where they are when they are completed. Noting the progression of a project allows for people to under-stand that design is a process and not something that just happens

Emens Auditorium has re-mained one of the most rec-ognized buildings on Ball State’s campus. It is my mis-sion to keep the integrity of the auditorium while making the space easier to use. Users should experience an ease in navigation and a comfort-able setting where they would want to be for however long their event may be. The audi-torium should allow for users to have quicker access to the restrooms provided in the fa-cility. Providing better space utilization will provide more possibilities for Emens staff.
