Subject: LIVEwell Program Update – November 2019 RECOMMENDATION That the JLMBC receive and file the report regarding LIVEwell Program activities and updates for November 2019. DISCUSSION

A. Engagement and Activities Update (1) Communications On November 1, Employee Benefits Division (EBD) staff released the November 2019 monthly LIVEwell Program newsletter (Attachment A) via Citywide email. The email focused on the power of gratitude and how it positively affects a person’s health, and promoted different types of activities to practice gratitude within the LIVEwell.la member portal that members could earn points for completing. The newsletter also promoted the November health screening clinics schedule at various City locations. The monthly LIVEwell.la member testimonial featured positive feedback on the influence of LIVEwell.la in empowering and enabling the member to make small but effective changes in the member’s lifestyle and achieving progress in the member’s wellness-related goals. Additionally, in the month of November, EBD staff worked with onsite engagement specialists from the City’s wellness services Third-Party Administrator, Limeade to produce and distribute a LIVEwell.la poster (Attachment B) for City departments to display in common building areas to further encourage and promote user registration of the LIVEwell.la member portal. (2) Regular Events: Education Classes, Clinics, and Webinars Clinics In November, staff coordinated the LIVEwell Program’s third annual health screening clinics at 12 City locations, including the Department of Recreation and Parks’ Pacific Service Yard, where LIVEwell hosted a clinic for the first time. Staff advertised each clinic through targeted email announcements

at each individual building location (Attachment C). The health screening clinics were attended by a total of 374 employees. The chart below indicates the distribution of attendees by location.

(3) Special Events LIVEwell Local In continuing implementation of the comprehensive LIVEwell.la Communications and Engagement Plan for increasing enrollment on the new online member portal, LIVEwell.la, EBD staff and onsite engagement specialists from Limeade participated in two LIVEwell Local events focused on promoting and registering employees on LIVEwell.la. • On November 6, staff made a first-time visit to the Department of Recreation and Parks Pacific

Service Yard (PSY) to provide information on the LIVEwell Program and promote the November 20 health screening clinic. Staff established a working relationship with the staff at the PSY location and plans to schedule additional classes and clinics in 2020.

• On November 13, staff hosted a table at the Personnel Department to provide information on the

LIVEwell Program and register employees on LIVEwell.la. Staff spoke with 100 employees, of which 70 enrolled in the LIVEwell.la platform. Subsequently, total LIVEwell.la user registrations increased by 3.7%.

(4) Engagement Results As previously reported to the Committee at its last meeting, staff has set a goal of 10,000 total member engagements in fiscal year 2019-20. As of November 26, 2019, total fiscal year 2019-20 member engagements is 3,626, which is on pace to meet the current fiscal year 2019-20 goal.

B. Wellness Online Member Portal LIVEwell.la User Registrations Update As of November 26, 2019, the total number of user registrations on LIVEwell.la is 1,771, which represents: 1) a 14% increase from staff’s last update on user registrations as of October 28; and 2) six percent of eligible City employees. Staff is encouraged by the initial results of the LIVEwell.la Member Communications and Engagement Plan (Attachment D) which has been very effective in driving user registrations higher. Staff expects the number of user registrations will continue to grow due to staff’s strong grassroots efforts in promoting the LIVEwell.la platform through various LIVEwell Program activities and events. Growing LIVEwell.la as a central hub for wellness activities, events, and engagement will be the permanent and ongoing mission for EBD staff and Limeade’s onsite engagement specialists. As such, staff, in consultation with Limeade, has developed the attached fiscal year 2019-20 goals and strategies for measuring member engagement and utilization of LIVEwell.la (Attachment E). Staff will report to the Committee on the status of each of these metrics in the monthly wellness report. Melina Cervantes, Management Analyst at the Office of the City Clerk, speaks to her experience with LIVEwell.la:

“LIVEwell.la has motivated me to make small, but effective changes. I've learned to swap items like soda for water, and it has encouraged me to take more walks

and be more physically active. These changes are important because I've noticed the difference that it is making. The LIVEwell.la website is user-friendly and it doesn't overwhelm those of us who are taking small steps, but still want

to move towards a healthier lifestyle. I also enjoy the point system because I am rewarded and reminded of my individual progress.”
