Road Accidents in Bangladesh
Increasing rate of road crash fatalities ‐becoming more prominent and alarming
Road accident took 2735 lives and another 2000 injures
Loss to our economy—1 to 3 percent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

ARI, (BUET) studied during the period of 1998‐2010 and revealed that around 76.3% road traffic crash occurred in outside city areas and 23.7% crash occurred in city areas. LGED road only 7.2%.

Black Spots on Highways
• Some 227 black spots have been identified • 27 black spots – already improved• 56 black spots are being improved now under three projects
• A project taken to address 144 spots

Upgrade all 2 lane National highways to 4 lane highways• 309 Km of AH Road is developed as Class I• 70 km of AH is now being improved to 4 lane
Introducing Slow Moving Vehicle (SMV) lane • 50 KM on AH2 has SMV• 70 Km on AH2 will be completed by 2018
Improvement of Black Spot• 81 Black spot already improved• 144 black spot improvement ongoing.

Axle Load Control Station• At present, 7 seven axle load control stations running
• More 8 stations – planned to established
Safe Pedestrian Crossing• City roads – footover bridge/underpass• Highways ‐ footover bridge
