April Message From Pastor Tim
“God Is In Control”
My friends, these last three weeks have been very trying on all of us. I had an article for the newsletter that celebrated the new life we have through Jesus Christ’s resurrection from the dead, and the fact that we will be celebrating three new members into our church family. But we do not always know what lies ahead nor what situations will cause us to pause and change course. The Coronavirus or Covid-19 certainly changed the world as we know it.
The streets of St Marys once bustling with: cars, trucks, ambulances, fire and rescue now seem eerily quiet. Few vehicles of any kind pass by the church or around the Diamond. Even fewer people walk downtown, past closed shops and businesses. Even Sunday morning, when cars and trucks fill parking spaces up and down our local streets, now remain open and lonely. It has been many years since Nancy and I lived in such quiet conditions.
In Romans 8:28 Paul reminds us; “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.” (NIV). We need to take comfort from this scripture. First to know that even in the midst of this crisis, God is with us and uses this time to bring His people back and remind us that He is in control. I do not believe God sent the virus to punish us. I believe all disease and harm is from Satan trying to pull us away from God and to cause us to doubt. But God will use this time to remind us to humble ourselves before Him and to repent of our own personal sinful ways and return to Him.
Following 9/11, the evil that Satan sent ended up bringing us all back to church for a time. Now nearly 20 years have passed, and perhaps we became complacent and lackadaisical about our faith. So this time Satan sends an evil that prevents us from being together physically in the hopes that we will fall further from our faith. I believe God’s people will respond by once again coming back to the church and to faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. In the meantime we will contin-ue to offer our service on line and reach as many of you as we can, and when we receive the go-ahead, we will resume normal services on Sunday morning and our ministries throughout the week.
Throughout the month of March the sermons reflected the ways in which Jesus saves us. And now we enter April where salvation will actually play out. Easter—the amazing and wonderful day, when we celebrate Jesus’ resurrection from the dead, will still happen on April 12 this year. And we will celebrate that glorious day. We may not be together physically to sing and worship, but we will celebrate Christ’s victory over the death and destruction Satan tries to impose on us. I know we are all going through difficulties and struggles right now. Some of you struggle more than others. But do not lose hope; do not lose faith; and hold on to the One who gives you eternal life—Jesus the Christ, our Savior and Redeemer.
Remember—nothing can separate [you] from the love of God. (Romans 8:39). That love is eternal, infinite, and unable to be destroyed. God offers it to us for free; and all we have to do is accept and believe.
God bless all of you, and Happy Easter
Pastor Tim, Nancy, Ashley and Ian.

CHRISTIAN COUNSELING ASSOCIATES OF WESTERN PENNSYLVANIA
Christian Counseling, in a basic sense, acknowledges that a person’s faith plays a vital
role in the healing of emotional or behavioral problems. Therefore, this type of
counseling intentionally seeks to make faith a significant part of the “treatment”
process. In whatever problem is faced, Christian Counseling acknowledges that
Jesus Christ can powerfully work in our lives to bring about healing and relief.
We provide a full range of services to those who need counseling for any individual,
marital, or family concern. When desired, psychiatric referrals for medication
management are available for those who struggle with more serious emotional problems.

What Makes You Happy: It's Not What You'd Expect By: Andy Stanley
Everybody wants to be happy. Everybody is on a happiness quest. For many,
happiness is measured in moments. Experiences. It's elusive. Unsustainable.
What about you? What makes you happy? In this remarkable 6-part study,
Pastor Andy Stanley reveals what makes you happy. He explores the three
things all happy people have in common. Then he goes on to describe how
these three things can be realities for you as well. So get ready.
You are about to discover what makes you happy.
SUMMER CAMP Even though it is early spring, it is not too early to think about going to summer camp! Before your calendars fill up with sports, vacations, and other activities, look at the summer camp bro-chures and find a week or a three-day camp for younger children that works for you.
Please check out the camps on-line or take a brochure from the Church (when available).
To check out the camps on-line go to:
wesleywoods.com (Warren County) (1 hr 45 min away) campallegheny.org (Allegheny County) (2 hr 40 min away) jumonville.org (Fayette County) (3 hr 15 min away)
From there, you can print an application or enroll on-line. (Enrolling on-line seems to be the easier way and will only require a deposit which is usually $50.)
Here are some guidelines for parishioners who would like some financial assistance:
If the camp costs $150-$250, campers are responsible for $50.
If the camp costs $250-350, campers are responsible for $75.
If the camp costs $350+, campers are responsible for $100.
Non-parishioners who need assistance are responsible for the registration fee plus 50% of the camp.
If you pay the $50 registration fee online, but still owe money to meet the $75 or $100 mark, please write a check to FUMC and write campership fund in the memo line. You can drop that check off at the church during office hours.
I will need to hear from every camper’s family who is requesting financial assistance from the Church after registering for camp so our Church can send in our portion of the cost.
I am happy to help in any way I can. Please call me at 781-3148 or call/text at 335-5548.
Campership Steward,
Laura Smith
On Line Giving First United Methodist Church St Marys provides an easy way
for you to give to your church. Through VANCO Giving Services you are able to make
on-line donations to your weekly giving, and special offerings throughout the year.
By using on-line giving through your home computer, laptop or mobile device APP
you have the freedom to set up continuous or one time only giving at your fingertips.
By giving on-line your giving will remain constant throughout the year, even when you are
away or unable to be in church to give as you normally would. In turn the church benefits
through knowing that the ministries of the church will be adequately funded.
So we encourage each of you to check out our website at www.fumcstmarys.com
and click on the Giving tab at the top of the page. You will be directed to the giving
page. The first time you go you will need to fill out your profile information located
on the right side of the page. Once you have completed that you are able to set up
your giving and support of our ministries here at First United Methodist Church.

Resale Shop Update / Volunteers Needed
Since we began at the ReSale Shop nearly two years ago, we have had several
faithful volunteers. Some come every once in awhile, others come almost
every week. We have added $4,319.26 to the New Church Building Fund.
We’ve donated to: CAPSEA, PA Homeless Vets, Guardian Angel, Homeless People,
Fire Victims, Jobless Folks having hard times, and also some “up-scaled”
trend-setters looking for the unique and/or unusual item!
Unfortunately this might all end, unless we can find other volunteers, and/or other
non-profit organizations that will help keep the Shop open.
Volunteering at the ReSale Shop has been rewarding — as an outreach from
The First United Methodist Church — and the feeling of helping others.
