Spencer Blocker was born in Stanton, TX on

12/01/1932. He grew up there with his two

younger brothers, Norman & Corky, and sister, Lilia, who

passed away in 2013. Spencer grew up working on their farm,

feeding the cows, driving a truck, and doing whatever his dad

farmed him out to do.

For fun, he played sandlot baseball, went to watch company

teams play baseball, swam & went to the rodeo. His hobbies

are traveling, playing golf, and visiting with people.

Spencer met the love of his life, Anita, in 6th grade and started

dating her as a junior in high school. He said she was the only

girl he ever dated, and they were married in August,1953. They

were blessed with two girls, Gay, married to Jim Pruitt and

Sonia, married to Mark Johnson. They have two grandchildren,

Whitney Pruitt and Joseph Johnson. Anita passed away in

2006.

Spencer served in the Army Corp of Engineers for 2 years.

After that he worked at MidTex Construction, Citizen’s Savings,

Midland Savings, which merged with Gibralter Savings, and

sold and brokered real estate.

Spencer grew up in church and is proud of the fact his

family always went to church, and he considers that one of his

greatest blessings. He was baptized at 14 years old in Stanton

during a gospel meeting. He served as an elder for about 25,

years and has worshiped at Main Street for 62 years. Some of

his favorite scriptures are Romans 12, James 1:2 & Philippians

4:13. One of his favorite sayings is “When you learn God

doesn’t need you to help Him judge, it frees up a lot of your

time.”
