We are proud to field 3 senior men’s sides; 1st XV, ‘A’ Team and the Friars. At Hartlepool Rugby Club we are fully aware that every individual player has their own unique interest in the sport and we believe that our playing opportunities cater for this. The 1st XV are the most competitive side at the club, competing in Durham Northumberland 2. Players are expected to train on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7pm. Home fixtures are very well attended by local support, and the team is also accompanied to games by a physiotherapist. Hartlepool ‘A’ offer a healthy balance between competitive and social rugby. They compete in the CANDY League Division 2. This team also provides a fantastic platform for those young players looking to make the transition to senior rugby. The Friars play occasionally and are ideal for those casual players & vets who are looking to prolong their playing days.

Hartlepool Rugby Club is accredited by the Rugby Football Union. Club Accreditation helps all club sections to become stronger, more effective, more efficient and more enjoyable places in which to play rugby. The RFU hopes that clubs will be both challenged by the process and enjoy it. It allows clubs to exhibit all that is good about rugby in their adult sections, mini and youth, women and girls and touch rugby, while demonstrating that this is all achieved in a friendly, welcoming environment. The Club Accreditation scheme is based upon the six Key Drivers identified as crucial to a strong club: • Retaining & Developing Players • Recruiting New Players • Recruiting & Retaining High Quality Coaches, Volunteers & Referees • Effective & Efficient Facilities • Effective & Efficient Management and Governance • Integration with the Local Community Each of these Key Drivers, together with the Core Values of the game, is represented within the Club Accreditation scheme and together they represent the component parts of a strong, sustainable club. The scheme recognises and assists Hartlepool Rugby Club to continually improve, while demonstrating a real commitment to providing all that’s best in rugby union.

Community is one of our core values and at the heart of everything we do. It is our belief that we have become much more than just a rugby club. We aim to provide a focal point and facilities to foster greater local community spirit & activity.

Through our charitable partnership with Alice House Hospice we hold the annual Hootenanny & Beer Festival which not only brings people together for a great time but raises thousands of pounds for the charity each year.

We try to engage with local residents and head out into the community as much as possible. This Summer an army of volunteers, including players & parents, gave up their Saturday afternoons to pick up litter and help tidy the local area.

Hartlepool Rugby Club is a volunteer led organisation and we are always on the look out for inspired people to help take us forward. Volunteering is an individual experience and everyone has a different reason for getting involved. If you’ve already started to think about volunteering, you may have an idea of the benefits you could gain; however, volunteering has a number of additional benefits you may not have considered: • Relevant hands-on experience • Improve confidence and self esteem • Improve your CV and gain up to date references • Learning new, or improving existing skills • Achieving a qualification • Meeting new people and being involved in your local community • Enjoying yourself – above all volunteering should be fun Roles that we require additional volunteers for include coaches, team managers, administrators, first aiders, ground and facilities maintenance, kitchen staff & many more. We also welcome students who have enhanced their studies and benefitted from placements with us in areas such as physiotherapy, photography, media and design. Volunteering is known to open up new doors and help to take you in directions you’ve never considered before – you never know where your experience could take you.

How we can help Danial Kennedy, Sports Journalism student, University of Sunderland “I had a fantastic time working with Hartlepool Rugby Club. I was afforded the opportunity to get close to the players and the other people around the club. I attended matches and conducted interviews which helped me to produce stories for both my University course and the club website. I also used the club as the subject for my dissertation. The family atmosphere made me feel very welcome and at ease from day one.” Calum Stamper, official club photographer and Photography student, Cleveland College of Art and Design “I have been the official photographer for the senior squad for two seasons and working with the club has helped me to expand my portfolio. It has been a great experience meeting the players & supporters who are so passionate about the sport and our club. I look forward to continuing my relationship into the new season.” Paul Thompson, Under 14 coach “I’m currently about to enter my third season as a coach with the club. Seeing these young players develop socially and actively over the last couple of years has been amazing. I couldn’t hope to be involved at a better club or surrounded by better people. There really is a family feel to it all.” There is a great team here waiting for you to get involved. For more information please email Stewart Hind – [email protected]
