This mission challenge will be to fund the meals and to provide volunteers to help Numana and other churches package 100,000 meals and strike out against hunger in our local northland area. Numana, Inc. is coordinating this project in conjunction with Harvesters, area churches and other "mission" agencies such as The Good Samaritan Center and Meet the Need to help local families fight hunger. The Methodist Missions Team will match congregation contributions up to $3,000. Our goal is to raise at least $6,000. A contribution of $30 will buy 100 meals; a contribution of $65 will buy 216 meals, etc. We want to help fund enough food to serve 100,000 meals before March 12. We also need volunteers. Our goal here at the church is to sign up 50 to 60 volunteers. The event will be held in the Liberty United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. Packaging will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 12 and end at 3 p.m. Volunteers will work one hour shifts. We encourage everyone to participate. There is no age limit - anyone from 3 to 93 can work this assembly line. You can go to Numanainc.com/ events to find our event and sign up to volunteer. To make a financial contribution for food, visit ESMethodist.com and using our PayPal service select “Numana Mission” when you make your donation. You can also place your donation in the offering plate on Sunday. Just mark the envelope “Numana Mission” to designate your contribution. METHODIST MISSIONS UPDATE

Continuing our mission in Mozambique, Africa, the mission team has decided to take the extra funds raised from our well mission to sponsor a local Mozambique minister with his continued training.Meet Pastor Jardim Carlmo Sulunge. He was born April 4, 1970 in the Nicoadala-Zambezia providence. He is married and the father of five children. Pastor Jardim has been a minister in Mozam-

bique since 2001. Before becoming a local pastor, Jardim worked as a youth coordinator. Our church’s sponsorship of $300 — or $75 per month from January through April — will help Pastor Jardim finish his training and graduate from the Gondola Training Center. This center will provide Pastor Jardim leadership development

training to continue to raise up church leaders in Mozambique and provide him with additional professional develop-ment and Biblical knowledge for his spir-itual foundation and teaching abilities.“I feel blessed to be part of this program because I never had a chance to partici-pate in this kind of workshop. I am ready to get to the end of the three year pro-

gram,” Jardim shared.“I’m humbled and thrilled with your church’s commitment to the Mozam-bique Initiative!” said Craig Stevenson, associate director of the Mozambique Initiative. “I will be sure to share with your congregation information on the ceremonies with photos of Pastor Jardim’s graduation this May.”

CHURCH SPONSORS MOZAMBIQUE MINISTER’S EDUCATION

Mittens Mission warms the hearts and hands of children

The missions committee wants to thank the Methodist congregation for such a successful collection effort for our Mittens for Missions project in January. A total of 157 hats, 11 scarves, 70 pair of gloves, 4 hat/gloves combos, 2 pair socks, and 2 coats were donated. As a result, children attending Elkhorn, Wyman and Lewis elementary schools now have warm hands and heads during the cold weather. The committee is so grateful for everyone’s caring and commitment to helping the children of our community and to your commitment to missions.

Finance Committee launches plan to pay 2016 Conference ApportionmentsIn a pledge to continue our mission to the Methodist church by paying 100 percent of our conference ap-portionments, the finance commit-tee has set into motion a payment plan for 2016.District level apportionments for 2015 and 2016 have already been paid in full, and the church’s 2015 conference apportionments were paid in full thanks to the help of Glenn Welton’s financial contribu-tion to the church. For 2016, in order to pay the con-ference apportionments of $25,695, our church will begin making monthly payments of $2,570 starting in March and running 10 months

through December.“I want to congratulate your congre-gation and express my personal ap-preciation for fulfilling 100 percent of your connectional giving dur-ing 2015,” Bishop Robert Schnase wrote. “The magnitude of ministry supported by your giving makes a substantial positive difference in the lives of people, congregations, and ministries within our conference and throughout the world. In 2015, more than 630 of our congregations gave full 100 percent support, reaching level of apportionment payout since before we formed the Missouri Con-ference. Thank you for all you do for the purposes of Christ.”

Italian Dinner NightThe youth group’s Italian Dinner Night on Feb. 13 was a huge suc-cess. Despite the cold weather, doz-ens of guests visited the church that Saturday afternoon and were treat-ed to either a spaghetti or lasagna dinner with all the trimmings.Leftovers were sold after worship on Sunday, Feb. 14. From ticket sales and leftover sales, the youth earned $825 toward their upcoming trip to Young Christians’ Weekend at Silver Dollar City in April.J.D. and Melissa Biermann want to thank all the youth and parents who

worked long and hard on Feb. 13 to make the dinner such a success. They also want to thank the con-gregation for supporting the youth group.Adding to the $455 raised in December, the youth now have $1,280 in the bank. Currently, there are 24 youth and parents signed up to go to Silver Dollar City. Ticket sales, travel and lodging total about $100 per person. To fully fund all partici-pants, the youth need to raise a total of $2,400. They have $1,120 remaining.

The youth will be having a little fun after their Italian Dinner Night by going bowling on Sunday, Feb. 28. Everyone will meet at Tiger Bowl at 2 p.m. for a little fun and to plan their next event. $10 will cover shoe rental and two games of bowling for each attendee.

The youth are invited to bring friends and family for this afternoon of fun.The youth group is open to anyone in the third grade or older. If you’d like to be a volunteer or a sponsor of the youth group, contact J.D. Biermann at (816) 810-7816 or [email protected].

The Youth Group’s first book study begins Sun-day, Mar. 20 with the title, “Dare to Dream.” “Dare to Dream” is a startling and inspiring new program by popular author and pastor Mike Slaughter that draws on the Bible and a lifetime of ministry to help us discern God’s dream for us and learn to live it out, prayerfully and enthusiastically. Sessions include: Dare to Dream – Wake up to God’s dream inside you. Discover Your Identity – You

were created with a pur-pose. Your Burning Bush – Be aware of those illu-minating God moments in your life. Lose Your Big Buts – Allow God’s strength to be displayed in your weakness. What’s in Your Hand – Identify and utilize the ordinary gifts God has given you. God’s Dream – Discover a dream for your life far

greater than your own. The Youth Study Edition helps youth learn how to develop a life mission statement that helps them fully com-mit to a God-directed lifestyle.

Dear Pastor Blevins,We want to thank you and all of the amazing people at First United Methodist Church for your recent winter hat donation. It’s obvious that a lot of love and hard work went into making such awesome hats! Most people take winter hats and gloves for granted… until they don’t have any or become uncomfortable. Please know how much you’ve helped our students and how much we appreciate it! Best regards.

— Larry Nelson, Elkhorn Elementary principal

Laura,We want to thank you so much for your heart-felt donation. Sometimes it’s the little things that can make a huge difference. The games, undergarments and pants are all much appreciated.

Dear Pastor Laura,A big thank you for the generosity shown to the Howell family from you and your church family. It will greatly help the two children. On a personal note, it was a huge encouragement to me. Your caring is a big deal to me. Sincerely.

Al Miller accepts role of Trustee Chair

Al Miller became our church’s Trustee Chairperson this month after Michele McCrackin’s new job forced her to step down from the role. Michele’s hours and added responsibilities at her new job prompted her to step down as chair, although she will remain on the board of trustees as a member.Al’s experience and history of our church facility make him the best candidate to follow in Michele’s footsteps. We want to thank Al for accepting this role and responsibility. We also want to thank Michele for leading us through some major building repairs, parking lot repairs, carpet replacement, nursery renovations and other improvements during her tenure at chair. Job well done!
