Jimmy Tingle, is a well-known stand-up comedian from Cambridge, MA. Jimmy has appeared on The

Tonight Show, Conan O'Brien, Larry King, HBO, NPR, PBS, and Comedy Central. He has worked as a

commentator for MSNBC and spent two seasons as the humorist and commentator in the "Andy Rooney"

spot for 60 Minutes II and CBS.

He’s a graduate of Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government with a Master’s Degree in Public Administra-

tion and is the founder of Humor for Humanity.

Judge Nancy Gertner is a graduate of Barnard College and Yale Law School where she was an editor on

The Yale Law Journal. She received her M.A. in Political Science at Yale University. She has been an

instructor at Yale Law School, teaching sentencing and comparative sentencing institutions, since 1998.

She was appointed to the bench in 1994 by President Clinton.

Judge Gertner She has been profiled on a number of occasions in the Boston Globe, the ABA Journal,

Boston Magazine, and The Wall Street Journal. She has written and spoken widely on various legal issues

and appears frequently as a keynote speaker, panelist or lecturer concerning civil rights, civil liberties,

employment, criminal justice and procedural issues, throughout the U.S., Europe and Asia.

She has published articles, and chapters on sentencing, discrimination, and forensic evidence,

women's rights, and the jury system. In September of 2011, Judge Gertner retired from the federal

bench and joined the faculty of the Harvard Law School teaching a number of subjects including

criminal law, criminal procedure, forensic science and sentencing, as well as continuing to teach and

write about women’s issues around the world.

In 2008 she received the Thurgood Marshall Award from the American Bar Association, Section of

Individual Rights and Responsibilities, only the second woman to receive it (Justice Ruth Bader

Ginsburg was the first).

In 2011 she received the Massachusetts Bar Association's Hennessey Award for Judicial Excellence, and

an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Brandeis University. In 2012 she received the Arabella Babb

Mansfield award from the National Association of Women Lawyers, and the Leila J. Robinson Award of

the Women's Bar Association of Massachusetts.

In 2014 she received the Margaret Brent Women Lawyers of Achievement

Award from the American Bar Association Commission on the Status of Women in the Profession.

Roderick L. Ireland is a Distinguished Professor in theSchool of Criminology and Criminal Justice at North-

eastern University. He received his Bachelor of Arts from Lincoln University, Juris Doctor from Columbia

Law School, Master of Laws from Harvard Law School, and Doctor of Philosophy in Law, Policy and Society

from Northeastern University. His interests include criminal law, juvenile law, and constitutional law.

Prior to joining Northeastern in a full-time capacity, he had been a judge for 37 years, serving in the Boston

Juvenile Court from 1977 to 1990, the Massachusetts Appeals Court from 1990 to 1997, and the Massachusetts

Supreme Judicial Court from 1997 to 2014. When he was appointed an Associate Justice of the Supreme

Judicial Court in 1997, he became the first African-American to sit on that bench in its over three hundred year

history. In 2010 he became the Court’s first African-American Chief Justice.

Chief Justice Ireland is one of the four justices who voted in favor of same-sex marriage in Goodridge v.

Department of Public Health (2003), the nation’s very first case in which a state supreme court declared

same-sex marriage constitutional. Subsequently, he has lectured and spoken on that topic extensively,

including delivering the Sixteenth Annual Justice William J. Brennan Jr. Lecture on State Courts and Social

Justice at New York University School of Law. His address was entitled, “In Goodridge’s Wake: Reflections

on the Political, Public and Personal Repercussions of the Massachusetts Same-Sex Marriage Cases.”

In addition to Northeastern, Ireland has also taught at Harvard Law School, Boston University Law School,

Northeastern University School of Law, and the University of Massachusetts in Boston. He has received

numerous honors and awards, most recently to include the Judicial Excellence Award from the Mass.

Academy of Trial Attorneys, the Celebration of Excellence Award from the Mass. Black Lawyers Assoc. and

the Massachusetts Black Judges Conference, a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Massachusetts Black

Lawyers Association, and the Boston Bar Association’s Judicial Excellence Award.
