John the Baptist’s Locust (Grasshopper) Craft Now John wore a garment of camel’s hair, and a leather girdle around his waist; and his food was locusts and wild honey. Then went out to him Jerusalem and all Judea and all the region about the Jordan, and they were baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins. Matthew 3:4-6 WHAT YOU NEED: Paper - Card stock or other heavier paper will work best Pipe cleaners Markers or crayons Tape Template (below) WHAT TO DO: 1. Before class, print out the Locust Craft Template (to follow) and make copies onto paper, card stock, if possible. 2. Color and cut out the locust (younger children may need an adult to cut out for them). 3. Fold a pipe cleaner in half. With the 2 open ends facing towards the locust’s head, tape the pipe cleaner along the middle of the back side of the locust, making sure the 2 open ends of the pipe cleaner stick out above the head a few inches, (these will be bent to create the grasshopper’s antennae). 4. Carefully fold the body around the pipe cleaner. Tape the heads together near the eyes and fold up the legs. 5. Bring the ends of the pipe cleaner up and bend to make antennae. (You can also cut apart the locust and glue them to a craft stick to make a stick puppet.) Optional: Write the Bible verse on the wings or on the inside of the grasshopper:
