On April 3, 2020, Jack C. Traweek joined the Heavenly Choir and Orchestra. Jack was born on June 21, 1939 in Dallas, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents, JC and Maureen Traweek, and his younger brother, Warren Traweek. Jack is survived by his wife of 58 years, Nanda; two sisters, Janet and Ureta; three children, Jacque (Mikeal) Cruce, Donna (Rob) DiMillio, Parrish (Carla)Traweek; seven grandchildren, Shannon (Tevor), Taylor (David), Keely (Evan), Broc (Trinity), Rocco, Jack and Christine; and three great-grandchildren, Jasmine, Kayla and Livi. Jack attended Godley High School, in Godley, Texas,

Jack C. Traweekwhere he was All State and to this day holds the single game touchdown record. Jack graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, Oklahoma. During his college years he boxed in 40 Golden Glove matches. In 1966, the Traweek brothers moved their young families to Arizona to ride dirt bikes in the open Arizona desert and to do church work. Over the years Jack had many motorcycles with his favorite being the Hodaka Ace 100B+. For over 62 years he directed music in churches which included leading 51 Cantatas. Jack was a great musician and could play most brass instruments by ear. His favorite instrument was his beloved trumpet. He was always very patient in encouraging others to find their voice. Jack was a very gentle man; he had vast knowledge of history and would remember most things he read. He was a very skilled wood worker and could frame up walls and houses with a hammer faster than most with a nail gun. For 36 years he had a career as a Railroad Engineer for SMARRCO. Jack was very generous with his time and finances to those in need. He never gave a second thought to delivering a basket of food, mowing a yard or trimming a tree. In his later years, known as Papa Jacks, he spent endless time on day trips with his grandchildren. He would study the history and graciously share that knowledge with them on those adventures. One of our fondest memories was the day Papa Jacks put the plastic pool in the back of the ole’ white Ford truck, filled it with water, loaded up the grandbabies and a few neighbors then headed for the hills. Jack wanted a cigar in his casket, paid Wailers in the back of the church and You Ain’t Nothing But a Hound Dog by Elvis Presley playing as he was being buried and a final request for his headstone “See I told you I was sick.” Services for Jack will be held at a later date.

1) When George Washington was born, America was ruled by ______________________________.

2) George Washington’s rst job was as a surveyor. A surveyor is someone who __________________________________________________________.

5) George Washington was the Commander in Chief of the _______________________________ army.

George Washington was born in Virginia on February 22, 1732. At this time, America was ruled by England. When he was a young boy, George had to travel a very long distance to get to school. To get to his fi rst school, George had to walk seven miles each way. George studied hard and became a surveyor. A surveyor is someone who measures land and makes maps. George Washington’s home was a farm called Mount Vernon. As an adult, he married a woman named Martha Custis. Martha had two children, and George helped raise them. At this time, there were a lot of people living in America who did not want America to be part of England anymore. George Washington was chosen to be the Commander in Chief of the American army. He fought in the Revolutionary War so that America could be a separate country. After a long and diffi cult fi ght, America won the war and gained its independence from England. It became the United States of America, and George Washington was elected as the fi rst president in 1789. At that time, the capital of the United States was New York. The capital later became Washington, D.C., named for George Washington.

In the mining industry, safety is a top priority even when there is not an active global pandemic. Local mines Resolution Copper and Capstone - Pinto Valley shared some of their latest protocols to ensure their work force and their communities stay as safe as possible through the duration of the COVID-19 pandemic. Mining remains an essential service and operation in Governor Doug Ducey “Stay Home, Stay Healthy, Stay Connected” Executive Order. Without a doubt, each of these mines are following the CDC and State protocols for following physical distancing, disinfecting high touch/high traffic areas and of course encouraging hand washing as much as possible. Staggering lunch times and breaks to keep groups from congregating together, allowing as many staff to work

from home as possible has also become a new normal for both mines. Employees are encouraged to stay home if they are not feeling well. Obviously, many jobs in mining cannot be done from home so both companies must balance having enough staff on site to do the jobs safely and ensure that physical distancing can occur to avoid any unintentional spread of the virus. At Pinto Valley, employees and contractors there are required to take their temperatures upon arriving on site. They also limit employees to only two per vehicle and beginning on May 1, everyone onsite will be required to wear a N-95 mask. Both companies have limited their visitation to only business-critical visitors to the mine sites and travel amongst the employees of these mines

have been restricted as much as they possibly can. Both Capstone Pinto Valley and Resolution Copper report that to date none of their employees have tested positive for the virus. Capstone has donated N-95 masks to the Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center and Resolution Copper is developing local plans to provide food and necessities to vulnerable populations in their areas. “The health and safety of our employees, contractors, and the community is our top priority. We are making every effort to protect our people while safely operating our business,” said Dan Blondeau, a Senior Advisor in Communication for Resolution Copper. Grupo Mexico-ASARCO was contacted for the story but did not submit comments for for the article.

to stay home except for the essentials, many of us have chosen this time to do some yard work. While the Oracle Brush Dump is closed at this time, remember the some of the basic principles of Firewise around your homes. The zones around your home include the Immediate Zone (0 to 5 feet around the house; Intermediate Zone (5 to 30 feet) and the Extended

Zone (30 to 100 feet). To reduce ember ignitions and fire spread, trim branches that overhang the home, porch and deck and prune branches of large trees up to (depending on their height) 6 – 10 feet from the ground. Remove plants containing resins, oils and waxes and mulches in the Immediate Zone. There are non-combustible options like crushed stone and gravel. In the Intermediate and Extended Zones, it’s

Take Time to Make Your Home Firewiserecommended to space trees, reduce ladder fuels, stack firewood at least 30 feet from your home and uphill from structures. These are just a few tips to help maintain your home and property in a more fire safe manner. For additional information, go to www.oraclefire.org or Firewise.org. Wild re Safety

Much of the southwest is considered a high-hazard fi re environment. Within this hazardous environment are individual homes, and entire communities ill-prepared to survive an intense wildfi re. It is not a question of “if” a wildfi re will occur, but when. The odds of losing human life and property are growing. The Town of Kearny would like to protect you and the community from the dangers of wildfi res. The Fire Chief is very concerned about this upcoming fi re season. Even though we have received more rain than usual, it has caused more weeds. Once the rain stops, the weeds will dry out and this will make for a dangerous fi re season. Please clear weeds, dry grass, dry shrubs or dead trees surrounding your property. Thank you for your support.

The COVID-19 virus is turning out to be a nightmare. The danger of the disease is real and we must all do our part to keep it from spreading. Our way of life has been disrupted and the impact on our everyday lives from the economy to how we shop or entertain ourselves has changed dramatically. During this crisis, communities need to come together and help find solutions to the problems we are facing. The people and businesses of the town of Oracle are beginning to unite in an effort to combat the virus and help sustain the economy. The post office has set up a protective plastic barrier at their service counter and employees are wearing gloves and masks. Circle K has plexi-glass barriers at their counters. More people are wearing face masks at the stores and out in public. Dollar General is limiting amounts of toilet paper, hand sanitizer, bleach, Lysol, etc. to help prevent hoarding. Arizona Zipline Adventures is closed but still operating their online general store. They have created a “Support Local” t-shirt to promote shopping locally and help their

employees. The shirt comes in green or blue colors and sizes small to XXL. Cost is $20 with half of the total going into their employee fund to help support their staff while they are closed. The shirt is printed in Oracle by Arizona Zipline Adventures staff. Oracle restaurants are cooperating and doing “take out” and curb service. Those restaurants with liquor licenses serve beer, wine and mixed drinks to go with food orders if requested. The Oracle Inn Steakhouse will be selling repacked groceries including meat and produce. The Ore House Hilltop Tavern even sells their delicious smoked meats (pulled pork & prime angus brisket) by the pound. They are now selling select grocery items including flour, sugar, eggs, burger patties, hot dogs, buns and produce. The Oracle Patio Café & Market offers outside dining as well as take out. They are considering home delivery in Oracle of meals and groceries and this may happen soon. They have expanded their grocery section. They are giving away face masks made by one of their employees, Toni, who owns Bad Toni Designs. They accept donations for the masks. The money is evenly divided among Gather the Pieces, Oracle Learning

Oracle says, ‘We’re all in this together’Garden and Oracle Animal Rescue & Rehabilitation. They also have the Arizona Zipline Adventures support local t-shirts for sale. Other people are making masks and giving them away as well as selling some at nominal cost. The Oracle Community Learning Garden at Wood Field volunteers distributed free boxes of produce, thanks to a donation from the SaddleBrooke Rotary Club, to people of the Tri-

Community at the Oracle Community Center on Saturday. The produce is part of the Produce on Wheels program. The Oracle Community Center is providing COVID-19 updates on their Facebook page in Spanish and English. Other individuals are sharing updates and information with friends. Many positive things are happening in Oracle. A community coming together realizing that we are all in this together.
