Fig. 6 - Removing Sound-Gard Body

Remove the two cap screws from on top of roof. Fasten lifting chains and connect to JOG-1 engine lift sling (Fig. 6).

IMPORTANT: Lifting chains should be as nearly vertical as possible when lifting body, to prevent undue stress on roof.

To make body removal easier, lower tilt steering wheel (if equipped). Move 3-point hitch upper lift link pins inward to provide clearance for body.

Lift off body.

INSTALLING SOUND-GARD BODY Before installing body, be sure rubber seal that

contacts the Control-Island is in good condition.

Place spacers (Fig. 7) in position (short spacer to rear) on rear axle. On tractors having a 4-post Roll-Gard, use steel blocks in place of the rubber mounts used on1the Sound-Gard Body .

• Install body on tractor. Tighten the rear-most

cap screw on each side first until effort is required to rotate metal retaining cap by hand. On late model tractors having retaining caps with punched

GENERAL INFORMATION NOTE: See Group 15 for Delco-Remy Starting

Circuit.

The John Deere starting circuit consists of the battery, John Deere starter with solenoid switch, starter circuit relay, key switch, start-safety switch, and connecting wires or cables. The starter (Fig. 1) has a totally enclosed shift lever ana a rollertype overrunning clutch. The shunt field winding is connected to the solenoid control circuit.

When making tests, the battery voltage should not drop below 9 volts. Never overheat the starter.

DIAGNOSIS AND TESTS Place the transmission in "PARK." Turn key

switch on. The tractor voltmeter should indicate battery voltage. If it does, current is flowing to the key switch. Then, turn key switch to start the engine.

Voltmeter Fails to Read Battery Voltage Defective key switch Defective wiring from battery to key switch

Litho in U.S.A.

Solenoid Switch Chatters Discharged battery Poor connection (usually at battery, starter, or

starter circuit relay) Open in solenoid hold-in circuit

Sluggish Starter Operation Discharged battery High resistance in circuit Excessive engine drag Defective starter

If starter does not operate, connect a voltmeter to the solenoid control terminal and a good ground.

Voltmeter Indicates Battery Voltage Defective starter Defective star~er solenoid switch

Voltmeter Does Not Indicate Battery Voltage Starter circuit relay not operating Defective starter circuit relay Defective wiring between battery, starter circuit

relay, and solenoid control terminal
