A Word from the Prez………………... As I write this article I am both tired and on cloud

nine at the same time. What a wonderful time I had

at the TCA Convention. We saw old friends and made

new ones. There were some Lecturers and TCA

members that have never been to our convention

before. We even had the Paradeability Competition

outside on the boardwalk. I would like to give

Cowtown Clowns a big thank you for all their hard

work. Putting together a convention takes time and

dedication from a group that has to be able to work

like a well oiled machine.

One of our TCA members Kim Grice made a quilt

from Texas T-shirts and gave it to us. The Board

decided to have an old fashion bidding-war auction

and give the proceeds ($600.00) to the Education

Budget. There will be more on this subject in another

article.

This was election year. I want to thank the members

of the TCA Board for working hard the last two

years. Those who did not run for re-election are: Kim

Panhandle/West, Dale Flashberg-Area Director

South/Central and Steve Dilsworth-Area Director

South East and they will be missed. We have some

QUILTING FOR EDUCATION Recently TCA was the recipient of a quilt. This quilt is hand-made from squares of t-shirts from past TCA Conventions, plus a few Texas clowns or Texas events. This beautiful and special quilt was made by Kim (Oxford) Grice, AKA Tutti-Frutti from San Antonio. Kim is a long-time TCA member and the most recent TCA Vice-president. The TCA Board of Directors decided to auction the quilt at the TCA Convention (in Granbury) with all proceeds going into the TCA Education Budget. The board arranged for the auction and decided to make it a 'bidding-war'. So during the Awards Banquet the auction was lead by Andy Banjo Quittner with lots of folks helping 'their-side' WIN! A whopping $600 was raised for the Education Budget. And, TCA still has the quilt to raise more funds in the future. Perhaps this "Quilt Auction" will become a new TCA tradition, who knows. The TCA Board sends a big THANK YOU to Kim for her generous donation. The final purpose for these educational funds has not been decided. If you have suggestions, please contact any board member (see contact information is in the back of this magazine).

TCA AMBASSADOR 2010 At TCA Convention in Granbury, Texas, the 2010 TCA Ambassador Award was presented to:

SUSAN ‘TINKER' BUTLER

Susan has been a TCA member for 26 years - since nearly the very beginning. And she has attended every TCA convention since she joined, including the very first convention. As 'Tinker' and 'Nurse Susie Q', Susan has given her time and talent to both TCA and to her local alley - Oops Alley. She has served on the board of directors for both her local alley and for TCA. She has competed in different categories of clowning and won many awards, but she knows that the real trophy is learning to do her best at the art and craft of clowning. Susan has a true desire to share her love of clowning and has taught clown classes with her local alley as well as at the W Virginia School for the blind and deaf in Romney WV, Odessa schools, Walk to Emmaus, Vacation Bible Schools and for the Shriners. She clowns at local hospitals and schools as well. She shares her love and heart for clowning with her fellow clowns and through her profession as a teacher of the visually impaired and as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist. She has a clown heart both in make-up and out. She really is one of those quiet little STARS of TCA with a heart as big as Texas.

Congratulations from all of TCA to Susan Butler, 'Tinker the Clown'. Truly a JOB WELL DONE! From Susan “Tinker” Butler Wow! What an incredible surprise and honor. When I was called to the stage as the new ambassador, I was speechless. All I could say was that I just clown from my heart. Thirty years ago while at a youth ministries workshop, I attended a class on clown ministry and the seed was planted for a life-long love. My first clown instructor planted a seed for my love for clown history. The more I studied, the more my love and respect grew for the oaks in our field. At clown camp I was blessed to meet Lou Jacobs, Mark Anthony, Cocoa, and Buttons. At that time I knew that every time I put on grease paint and walked out the door, I was representing those great clowns, so I must always be the best that I can be. Someone said, "be compassionate, and be passionate about something." That is my challenge for each of you. Let clowning be your passion and always, always be the best that you can be as you represent the oaks in our field. Richard Snowberg said, clown wherever you can. Shaggy said, "Let them say, THAT CLOWN IS FUNNY." Susan Butler

Susan is all smiles after receiving her award. The TCA Ambassador Award is presented annually (if a qualified candidate is nominated by the Membership). This is the highest

award presented by TCA to its members (both nominator and nominee must be current TCA members). It is a lifetime achievement award - meaning that once a member receives the award, they remain a TCA Ambassador and are not eligible for nomination again. There are no specific minimum qualifications for an Ambassador; however, the committee (made up of previous award recipients) will consider the nominee's clowning service and accomplishments over their 'clowning life'. So sometimes it takes many years to build a deserving resume. Most of the TCA Ambassadors did not set out to become ambassadors - they simply love clowning and it shows in the many things that they have done over their clown years.
