Minutes KAAMCO Cargo Operations Committee

Joseph Pesce, Chairman ofthe KAAMCO Operations Committee, opened the meeting, which
was held at the Port Authority JFK Bldg 14, at 1O.00am and made the following comments:
• Chair Persons & Team Leaders were introduced.
• Meeting minutes, valuable information to the cargo community and links to the government
agencies may be found on the KAAMCO Cargo's web site at either !!y!'w.jfkcargo.ne or
1'I\'r'w.jtkcargo.o ".
• A listing of chair persons & Team Leaders with their contact information was available at the
meeting. If you have problems please don't hesitate and call anyone of them and they will be
happy to assist.
Joel Ditkowsky from the JFK Brokers and Freight Forwarders Association:
• I have flyers on the table for membership to the Brokers & Freight Forwarders Association.
The association's membership is opened to everyone. You may become an affiliate member.
You do not have to be a broker to be a member. We have seven meetings a year. We have a
sponsorship program. If you are interested: contact me.
• On June 20 1h we had our meeting with Customs & Border Protection from all ports (JFK,
New York, New Jersey). It was our annual meeting where we voted for our board of
directors, on July] Olh I will give Jacques Le Vaillant a listing ofthe new board of directors
and officers for this year.
• The Semantics is a benevolent organization that was started many years ago, and helps those
that are connected with the airport and is looking for your support. I have Membership
Application on the table for anyone who wishes to join. We have adopted the hero for hunger
help project for returning veterans that cannot even buy groceries for their families. It is run
by the V.A hospital in Northport. On June 141h of last year we raised over $5000.00 and a
couple of months later we added a couple of thousands dollars. We are looking for new
membership. On June 13th we had a fund raiser for Aidan Sullivan an 11 year old boy who
was born without an ear. We collected in excess of$8000.00 for the family.
• Our Assistant Port Director Rich O'Connell is retiring on June 30Ul There will be a
retirement party at Russo's on the Bay on July 26th •
• I am concerned about demurrage charges and fees being increased at JFK I would like you
to review your rate structure to see if the cost can be brought downward. I am concerned
about cargo moving to other more friendly ports.

• Ifyou have equipment behind your building that does not belong to you, please send me an
e-mail and I have no problems contacting the owners, which is often appreciated as you
cannot be expected to know where your equipment is at all time. 1 compliment AAL 1made a
call about a piece of equipment behind OUT building it was picked up in less than 1 hoUT_
• Bob Caton brought up the problem Rudy Ruthman had: When he called the Port Authority
to have abandoned equipment, that did not belong to him, seized; he was told that he would
have to pay the towing fee. Don Rivas replied that due to budgetary limitation the port could
not pick up the cost because there is no guarantee that the equipment will be claimed by its
owner and the fee reimbursed. We could look at the issue once again and see if we could find
a solution.
• Jacques sends out the monthly FaD reports issued by Mauri from the Ground Operations
Committee. There has been deterioration in the condition and cleanliness oframps at various
buildings. Please take a look at your ramps and facilities and take corrective action. You will
also see on this report notes about abandoned equipment on various locations.
Joe Pesce adjourned the meeting. Ifyou have any questions please contact me or the Committee
