LIEWE OUD-GREYS/OUERS/ONDERSTEUNERSAfter my retirement as headmaster of a truly great school, I was asked to remain involved as fundraiser for the BRAM FISCHER TRUST and the JOCK MEIRING TRUST.

The Bram Fischer Trust was launched by Nelson Mandela and raises funds for boys of all groups who would otherwise not be able to attend Grey. BENEFITS OF DONATIONS TO THIS TRUST: BEE POINTS.
Die Jock Meiring Trust is vernoem na Grey se legendariese skoolhoof. Fondse wat ingesamel word, sal aangewend word om die infrastruktuur van die skool te verbeter en personeel te behou(bv. vir die herstel van die sandsteen van ons nasionale gedenkwaardighede, die astro, die rugbypawiljoen, personeelverblyf, n ouditorium, n binnenshuise sportsentrum, sokkerfasiliteite, gimnasium, swembad, terrein, n kapel in die Fischertuin, ens). VOORDELE VAN BYDRAES TOT HIERDIE TRUST: BELASTINGKORTING(Art 18a).
As u sou belangstel om as n strategiese vennoot betrokke te raak, sal ek graag met u in verbinding tree om moontlike opsies te bespreek en n brosjure aan u te besorg. Dit bevat inligting oor die pad vorentoe en behoeftes wat bestaan.

Die Onderwysdepartement voorsien in 22 % van Grey se jaarlikse operasionele begroting van R 50 miljoen. To prevent Grey from crunching to a halt and become just another school, capital is essential.
The purpose of both the trusts is to support GREY COLLEGE to maintain and to improve on the standards already in existence.Die handhawing en uitbouing van standaarde is in die huidige klimaat uiters moeilik; dog noodsaaklik!

The Bram Fischer Trust aims to provide opportunities to all promising boys who would otherwise not be able to attend Grey to indeed enjoy the advantages of this great educational institution.
Daar moet ook voorsiening gemaak word om die beste onderwysers/afrigters na Grey te lok en hulle vir n tydperk hier te benut. Salarisse en behuising moet ondersoek word.
In return for their financial assistance, donors can receive a tax certificate or obtain BEE points for their company/corporate.

Both hostels have been in use for more than a century and need urgent upgrades to provide suitable accommodation for 120 boarders in each hostel.

The hockey astro was completed in 2002 and is in urgent need of a new carpet(According to the installers it should be done after 7 years, but it has been well-maintained by staff and players).

Die huidige pawiljoen by die hoofveld is reeds sedert die jare sestig in gebruik en ingenieurs beveel aan dat dit vervang word, aangesien dit te vervalle is om te herstel en boonop is die kleedkamers voortdurend onder water.
Rugby draws about 10 000 spectators per 1st XV match and the facilities should be an advertisement for Grey!

In the technological era classrooms have to reflect and encourage new ways of teaching and learning and although all the classrooms have computers and interactive whiteboards, ongoing innovation requires continuous upgrading and teacher training.

Chapel10The Fischer Garden is home to the monument of Old Greys who fell in different wars and also the site of the Wall of Remembrance where the ashes of scores of Old Greys have been laid to rest.
A chapel in this hallowed garden would give parents, Old Greys, Grey boys and friends the opportunity to share a quiet moment and recall memories of those who have gone before. Parents and boys sometimes need a place where they can reflect in peace and quiet.

Staff15The Department of Education only pays the salaries of a percentage of the staff who work at Grey. As more specialized subject knowledge becomes a necessity, the school will have to employ more staff and remunerate them from the school’s funds.
This could also apply to coaching staff. Many schools already employ “professional” coaches and Grey will have to contemplate how such a move will impact on Grey’s traditional policy of only using teaching staff.
