Attention 7th grade students and parents: We will be meeting with 7th grade students through their Math classes, from February 2nd through 12th to ask them to complete their schedule request surveys for 8th grade. These forms can be accessed through the Naviance career development program, which they can access through their clever portal. National Junior Honor SocietyAll students who earned Honor Roll for the first semester may qualify for membership in the National Junior Honor Society. Membership is a great privilege, and carries with it a responsibility to maintain the expected qualifications. These include the following:

Scholarship: Each member must maintain a 3.0 grade point average or higher.

Character: Behavior regulations are strictly enforced and members must maintain a clean behavior record.

Citizenship/Service: Each member will be asked to volunteer for at least 3 community service activities throughout the school year.

Leadership: Each member is expected to maintain a positive attitude and be a role model for his/her peers.

Before being inducted into the National Junior Honor Society, students must submit an essay and application form through google docs. The 5 paragraph essay should describe a time when you demonstrated outstanding performance in one or more of these areas (Scholarship, Character, Citizenship, Service or Leadership). What did you do? How did it make you feel? What did you learn from the experience? Please share your essay with Tiffany Myers through google docs or email it to [email protected]. Please also email a personal photo to Mrs. Myers to be displayed during our virtual induction ceremony.

Once your essay is complete, you can access the google form at: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdsuQMfEG5TULdu1PYngZKZMTGQ45T3cCm80BF96LMVBnEI0Q/viewform?usp=sf_link

The Induction Ceremony will be held virtually, on Wednesday, February 24th, at 6:00pm. Permission forms and/or essays will not be accepted late. Including Protein in your diet is very important.

If you get less than 30 minutes per day of moderate physical activity, beyond normal daily activities, 12 and 13 year old boys and girls need 5 oz. of protein/day. For 14 year olds, girls still need 5 oz., but boys need 6 ½ oz. (if you are more physically active, you may need a bit more)

Protein is contained in meat, poultry, seafood, and other foods. As you are making decisions about your eating habits, you may make the choice to not include meat in your diet. There are a variety of food choices available that will allow you to get the protein you need.

some alternatives to meat: eggs, split peas, peanuts, black beans, white beans, pecans, black-eyed peas, bean burgers, pistachios, chickpeas, falafel, pumpkin seeds, kidney beans, tempeh, sesame seeds, lentils, tofu, sunflower seed, lima beans, almonds, walnuts, navy beans, cashews, peanut butter, pinto beans, hazelnuts, nut butters, soy beans, mixed nuts.

Here are a few ideas for simple ways to add these choices into your diet:

· Add meat alternatives to chili, soups or pasta sauce

· Be creative with beans: try a new recipe; cook soups with beans, lentils or split peas

· Spread Hummus on crackers or on bread inside a sandwich

· Eat eggs any time of the day: cut up a hardboiled egg for a snack; egg salad or a fried egg and cheese sandwich

· Put tofu or crushed nuts into milk shakes and fruit smoothies

· Mix nuts or seeds into yogurt; make trail mix made with nuts and seeds Choosemyplate.gov

Attention All 8th GradersAs of Oct 30th, the City-Wide Athletic Director along with the District Directors, decided that we will not have Fall and Winter athletics for the Middle School.

As it has always been, 8th graders are allowed to participate in High School sports that have a JV team. Due to our circumstances, we are passing the word for our 8th graders, if they wish to go and participate. We are still hoping that we play Spring sports and even football in the Spring. In order to participate in athletics and the high school, you will first have to have a physical on file. Attached you will also find other paperwork that you will need prior to attending.

I am also attaching a list of the coaches’ names and emails if you have any questions.Girls Basketball: Coach Kevin – [email protected] Basketball: Coach Mike – [email protected]: Coach Leonard – [email protected] Volleyball: Coach Anita – [email protected] Volleyball: Coach Freeman – [email protected]
