Effective moisture management is facilitated by several fabric properties:

1 Spread of moisture: The larger the areas the moisture covers, the faster it can evaporate.

2 Speed of spread: the faster the moisture spreads to the maximum areas, the faster it can evaporate. Moisture is less likely to get trapped against the skin, keeping skin cooler and more comfortable.

During pregnancy it is important for the mum-to-be to take care of herself. A balanced diet, the proper exercise, skin care and plenty of rest are all healthy choices that keep women feeling great during pregnancy. But sometimes even TLC doesn’t keep legs from becoming tired and achy.

Pregnancy increases the possibility of developing varicose veinsMen and women of all ages can develop varicose veins. But the special changes in the body during pregnancy make women especially susceptible to this condition. In fact it is estimated that up to 20% of all pregnant women develop varicose veins.1

Early treatment can prevent temporary problems from becoming permanentVaricose veins that develop during pregnancy may return to normal after the baby is born. However, if valves are damaged, there may be a tendency for varicose veins that develop during pregnancy to become permanent problems.

•Before wearing compression stockings, it is important that the correct size is determined:

– Measure the narrowest ankle circumference

– Measure the largest circumferences of other body parts as per diagram below

– Measure each leg independently

– Measure in the early morning where possible as swelling may occur during the day

– Check against measuring guides

– Match measurements with the required amount of compression

•JOBST garments come with fitting and care instructions in the packet which will assist customers with the correct way to fit and wear compression stockings from the beginning. This will increase their willingness to wear the stockings.

Put the hand inside the stocking and grip the heel.

Turn the stocking inside-out, keeping hold of the heel.

Pull the inside-out of the stocking over the front of the foot as far as the heel.

Gradually pull the stocking onto the calf, like a normal stocking.

Push the overlapping part of the heel.

Fold over the stocking and pull without using force.

Make sure that the heel of the stocking is free of creases.

Pull the stocking up to the knee, thigh or waist; let it slide over the thumbs.

JOBST® Application Instructions

Putting the stocking on will be even faster and easier for your customer using the appropriate donning technique as illustrated below. Alternatively, textured, soft rubber gloves or a Stocking Donner can be used. When pulling the stockings on, patients should remove all jewellery and try to avoid snagging the material with their fingernails.
